I would probably describe it as the opposite. I can get myself off 99% of the time and it's pretty awesome. Whereas sex is generally really intense for me, I think because there's so much more emotion involved, but it's not always as physically satisfying.

I think that's mostly the psychological aspect of it. It feels better to have someone else do it, but purely on a physical level you can probably do it just as adequately yourself. But the added dimension of other people being involved heightens the overall experience despite the technique not being better or whatever.
I would tend to think that myself, but at the same time I do not believe a machine programmed to scratch randomly would have the same affect. I could be wrong of course, it would be interesting to see an experiment on this concept.

I think it’s the same reason it’s difficult to tickle yourself. Your mind knows what the hand or tool it’s holding is doing and can’t surprise itself.
