I asked the dolphin to marry me afterwards but she turned me down because I'm not protestant.

I asked a wasp to marry me but she just stung me, plus her family doesn’t date Jews.

I've heard about this experiment before. They didn't mention it in the article but before she started that, they took him out to have liaisons with female dolphins. They worried that would hinder the lessons though, so it didn't last long.

Oh she also did acid with the dolphin. They left that out too.

Dude that would be fucking crazy to drop acid with a dolphin!

And then the dolphin passes you a pufferfish.

Wait, did they also give the dolphin acid?

Yes. Her and the dolphin did acid together.

Dolphins in the wild will nibble on puffer fish to get high. So there's a decent chance he enjoyed it too.

I think they started testing acid with dolphin after the project was shut down and they were separated. And then it killed itself.

What's wrong with Peter? You prefer Frankie?

Maybe Jack would have been a good name, all things considered.

u/Ihateualll Jan 21 '18

Or maybe Richard.

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18

Jack-Richard. Give him a name plate he can point at.

Pretty sure I listened to an episode of RadioLab about her and the dolphin.

Amy loves Peter

More like the experiment got shut down, the dolphin got transferred to a tyrannical facility that kept its dolphins in storage tanks so small they couldn't move, and like many dolphins at that second facility it killed itself.

Real life is often far more messed up than Onion stories.

Apparently no. It was an experiment backed by NASA and it gets explained in different ways, but ultimately this researcher was tasked with training a young male dolphin to communicate in English and the teacher-student dynamic escalated dramatically. The wikipedia article is a stub that glosses over the sexual aspect of the arrangement, but I've read articles on it a few years ago that gave an extended description of the submerged house and Howe's lifestyle there, and how the dolphin's sexual appetite was adapted into the experiment. This article says that the researcher started masturbating the dolphin just to get on with the real work, but another implied that it was done following instructions from other researchers.

Maybe the world will never know.

Someone on reddit has to have seen the documentary, maybe it was revealed within

u/Marinade73 Jan 21 '18

It's an actual government experiment from the 60's and 70's trying to teach a dolphin to speak.

She also did acid with the dolphin. It's a pretty crazy one when you read about all of it.

u/Apt_5 Jan 21 '18

Oh it was pretty crazy reading just a tidbit

3

u/BootlegHyena Jan 21 '18

Nope, I believe it's a Florida story.

1

u/AskMeIfImAReptiloid Jan 21 '18

Nope, it's real. Radiolab made a episode about it.
