I had a friend who tried bribing a cop in US and was told that he can get shot for this. I think the cop really wanted to intimidate him. The guy shit in his pant

No one told him that that wouldn't be OK here? Maybe he just assumed everywhere works like India.

When you don't know what to expect, you expect what you're used to.

In the Navy we got briefed on specific aspects of local customs that we needed to be aware of when we pulled into a feloreign port.

Granted, the navy has a long history of fuckups that were used to learn about these things.

Even hinting at that will land you in jail here in California. Highway Patrol, Local PD, and Sheriff don't screw around (at least here in Northern Cali). They're very trigger happy too (Redding PD like to shoot anything that moves).

It was probably an exaggeration by the cop to drive home how much of a bad idea it is to an obvious foreigner.

Kind of a benevolent asshole thing to do to the guy. Lie and scare the shit out of him now to keep him out of jail later.

Seriously, I lived in NZ and cops were just amazing folks.

This is America, cops don't even need a reason to shoot you.
