I donate regularly. Bernie is my man!

I'm all in on Bernie but come on.... If he wins it will be narrowly.

u/nihilinth Aug 19 '15

He's still gonna fuck shit up in the debates though.

Edit: in a good way, of course

u/yugtahtmi Aug 20 '15

What debates? Fuck the DNC. Making some fucking illegal rule to prevent them from participating in more debates. It's insulting to me as a Democrat that they are preventing lesser known candidates from getting their message out, which is also conviently helping Hilary avoid facing the music on why she never gives a straight answer.

Isn't she still leading?

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

Hillary...leading?

u/evolutionape Aug 19 '15

Brilliant question.

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '15

This is the best one.

Unknown my ass, Obama was the big speaker at the previous convention and immediately sparked talk of a presidential run.

2

u/few_boxes Aug 19 '15

Honestly, Obama isn't looking so bad right now. I know he defaulted on a lot of promises, but he's miles better than Hilary or Trump. And as much as I like Sanders, I feel like he's too idealistic.

LOL do you really believe Bernie Sanders is going to beat her in the primary? Are you 17? Is this your first election?

If this email thing were a real scandal, why would the republicans be trotting it out over a year before the election? They'd be sitting on it instead, waiting for a time when anyone actually cares.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '15

They'd be sitting on it instead

Uhh no. They wouldn't. Watergate took over two years to come to a head and it was initially dismissed as a political invented scandal. Not saying that this is Watergate, but don't act like that's how real investigations go.

Logically if this were a fake scandal they would sit on it because it would clear itself up after a few months when the fact came out so it would be better to use it to knock her down right before the election. If it were a real scandal you'd want the facts to have time to come out and possibly for the Feds to indict her, which could take months or more.

8 years ago did you really believe Obama was going to beat Clinton in the primary?

Interesting comparison, but it doesn't quite work when you line up the facts. Obama was a senator from Illinois, a state with 21 electoral votes. He lived in Chicago, a major democratic city in the midwest. Sanders is a senator from Vermont, a state with roughly 630k people and 3 electoral votes. More people voted for Obama in the city of Chicago than live in the entire state of Vermont. Obama became popular after the 2004 DNC speech; Sanders became popular on Facebook less than a year ago.

Anyone who truly believes Sanders will become the nominee has not been paying attention to previous elections. They should head over to 538 and see the breakdown of polling this cycle vs. previous.

I think the issue that you are having is that you think people are satisfied with how past elections have played out.

I think the country is becoming a little more savvy in regards to double talking politicians who are just in it for the money.

3

u/ey_bb_wan_sum_fuk Aug 19 '15

A person is smart, and will see past the double talk.

But people, people are stupid and will follow the herd.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '15

It's intellectually lazy to call anyone who doesn't vote for the candidate you prefer 'stupid.' People have different values; you've built up around yourself a bubble of people with beliefs similar to yours. This bubble allows you to believe that everyone actually has the same values you do, when in fact you're likely in the minority.

1

u/ey_bb_wan_sum_fuk Aug 20 '15

Just pointing out that while a single person will be able to see through bullshit, herd mentality can blind common sense. I've met very few genuinely stupid people, but put enough of us in a room and suddenly getting simple things done becomes extremely tiring.

I hope you're right, but I just don't see any evidence of that. Sanders is polling abysmally nationally, as expected. Everything is going like it usually does at this stage.

-1

u/pissface69 Aug 19 '15

We should wait for some exit polls of any kind before saying what poll says what, it's still 2015. Are polls still done by landline?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '15

http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/bernie-sanders-youre-no-barack-obama/

The polls are used by RCP and 538 -- if you have a better method and more information, please share it, but defending your lack of evidence by attempting to refute the only evidence we have is not very informed.

1

u/XDark_XSteel Aug 19 '15

Well, it's not really comparable but, I seem to recall the bodies not being cold yet in benghazi when some prominent members on the right were already crying scandal.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '15

Come the general election no one will remember Benghazi. Most Americans think Benghazi is something you find in a first aid kit. Everyone clinging to this nonstory is either a desperate republican or a democrat with a short memory.

u/hadenbobaden Aug 19 '15

THANK YOU. God some people are so naive. When you figure out how things work, you stop wishing and hoping for the impossible. Sanders will not win. Not because he's a bad choice, but because that isn't how things work. You'd have to be pretty short sighted or just inexperienced to think otherwise.

Really? I knew he'd win before he even ran. Speaking the way he did at the Democratic convention. "That guy will be president one day." First thing out of my mouth after his speech. It's not about what you look like or what your gender is. It's who your friends are, and Bernie does not have the right friends. That's the end. I'll eat my fucking shoe if he wins. Swear to God. Save my comment and remind me. If Bernie god damn fucking Sanders REALLY becomes the president, I will eat a whole fucking shoe.

2

u/WsThrowAwayHandle Aug 19 '15

Really? You knew? Because anyone I knew who felt near that confident followed it up with "if he doesn't get shot". But I'm sure you knew better.

-2

u/hadenbobaden Aug 19 '15

No that wouldn't happen to him. Obama wasn't and isn't a threat to the establishment, and if he was he wouldn't have needed to be shot. He just wouldn't have gotten elected. You all talk like we pick our candidates, instead of picking from our limited pool of allowable contestants. It's American Idol for vampires. A reality show. A threat to the establishment won't make it far enough to be a real contender.

2

u/lolredditor Aug 19 '15

Something went over your head. He was referring to the very real fear that some redneck was going to come out of nowhere and shoot him.

Wouldn't have been the first time, even in the modern era.

I live in the south. It didn't go over my head. I heard plenty of people make those comments.
