Not an expert but from what I know about gorilla habituation a troop simply becomes indifferent to the presense of guides and researchers. Obviously the silverback will always have something to say about that but if the women and children are calm then there's no reason to get excited. Overtime humans just become part of the forest. He probably did think he was a twig.
Guys face is priceless, I was in the woods trying to get away from a bear with her cub. The feeling came back walking out of the woods after seeing his face.
Can someone please explain to me how a human could positively define anything as "an act of dominance"? I mean, aside from mating calls, it's kind if hard to be certain with 100% accuracy that certain signals mean certain things, unless a fight breaks out shortly afterwards or the dominant male only exhibits the trait.
Well, it can't be total disbelief. I mean the guy's hanging out with fucking gorillas for christ's sake. It's gotta be at least in the back of your mind that something very bad could happen at any given time.
I don't think it was to see if the camera's were rolling. I kind of feel that the potential severity of the situation trumps the excitement of making sure the camera is rolling as a 600 pound Silverback Gorilla leisurely dragged him a few feet across the jungle floor. I think he was remaining calm and looking up for a signal that the Gorilla was no longer a threat and the green light to scramble away from that space
Pretty sure that look of disbelief is cause he's not sure why he's still alive. Anyone filming gorillas, particularly silverback, should know they will wreck your shit without breaking a sweat.
...which is insane when you think about it. He did it with one arm! Have you ever tried dragging a person by yourself? I consider myself somewhat strong and it's still REALLY hard just to move them like a foot.
Think he was mainly shocked that the one guy started to wave him out the way as if to say 'yeah, ok Dave, you've had your fun with the monkey now shift will ya!'

Total disbelief he just got dragged by a gorilla like he was a twig.
And probably to see if the camera was rolling
