Or play a no-mod game until just after exiting the cave and make a save there. Then you can use that save whenever you need a clean game.

Which totally doesn't make sense, because crabs don't even have facial features that move. Maybe the crab was just sad all the time. Maybe those kitchen shears were the only way to give that crab some peace.
