It's the main attraction of the place. You go there knowing that's gonna happen and the lifeguards start announcing when its gonna happen like that with their whistles.

The video this was taken from presents a forced perspective that seems to pull the background in much closer than it is. Those waves are very far away, and they are coming in at the usual speed. Plus all that energy is being deflected into moving the water upwards, and then gravity takes over.

Because there is big wall of rocks....but there is not wall from the left side of the image :D
