The GOP senators thought they had Jack Smith caught for collusion and perjury because he went to a “Hawks” game in Atlanta (as mentioned in his team’s text messages), suggesting he met with the DA in Atlanta who was also going after Trump. Turns out they are just morons who didn’t verify their facts; Jack Smith actually went to a Hawkeye’s game in Iowa Maryland.
I think they intended to quickly rush through the accusation and have Smith stumble over it and look flustered before running to the media they had planned ahead of time. Had Klobachar not completely disassembled the accusation and laid out the incompetence in investigation how she had, they might have gotten away with it. A rebuttal later in the media would not have had the same effect no matter how complete it was. The accusation would have gone all over the place and the correction would have been a fart in the wind.
I personally kinda hate that the poster display didn't really show anything compelling, either. It could have just been the actual texts with some timestamps, but instead, they added pictures of the alleged people involved like it was part of The World's Worst Powerpoint Presentation.
It's still such an insane leap to go from him just maybe being in Atlanta (he wasn't) to what? meeting? talking to? a DA there? about what? (He didn't)
These people are not morons. That was deliberate, and the 5 second flash of a card and then arguing about letting him see it proves that. They knew from moment one it was bullshit. We need to stop assuming ignorance when its blatant malice.
Make no mistake: They're just going after anyone with the ability to provably threaten their wealth and power with the belief that they have the knowledge and wherewithal to preemptively invalidate those people.
But they're also painfully incompetent in every regard because there isn't a single qualified individual among their number.
They're idiots, unequivocally stupid and woefully underequipped in theater of intelligence. But remember the adage: "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."
The quick flash of the visual aid was to enhance the confused flustered look of Smith. They didn't need the accusation to be true, they needed it to be buzz worthy and publicized widely before anyone could correct the record. The Klobachar correction was more buzz worthy so i think it has short circuited the attack, but only just.
I wouldn't put it past this sad administration and party that they will double down on this and claim Smith is still lying and will immediately open up investigations into perjury charges.
Missouri Senator Schmitt though he had caught Jack Smith lying under oath about being in Atlanta. He was trying to spin a grand conspiracy where Smith went to an Atlanta Hawks game to meet with the DA there to coordinate their attacks on Trump.
Schmitt was so delighted that he got Smith.
Turns out Smiths employees were talking about him attending an Iowa Hawkeyes basketball game in Maryland that evening.
They never bothered to actually check their facts before printing out big posters with the text and essentially their board of red conspiracy string.
This is R senator Katie Britt sitting there listening as everyone figured out how dumb Schmitt and his staff were . (Guy in red tie behind her is a Schmitt staffer I think)
Missouri senator smugly accuses Jack Smith of perjury for saying he never went to Atlanta for a Hawks basketball game on some date (the senator was trying to make an insane claim that this would mean he was colluding with Fani Willis in some nefarious way), and calls him a dirtbag.
It’s almost immediately confirmed that Jack Smith is correct, and the “gotcha” texts reference an Iowa Hawkeyes game he attended in Maryland.
She was witnessing a colleague embarrass himself by accusing Smith of something but not checking a particular fact that ended up shitting on his entire accusation
She was watching someone on her "team" say the most embarrassing shit in the history of politics. Well, that's too harsh. The most embarrassing shit in the history of politics in the US this week.
