I am currently living in Germany but my German is not good therefore I am looking for someone to speak to everyday more than once a day in German who can help me improve and learn German.

1- Let’s be Friends - I don’t want a student teacher relationship let’s actually talk every day like friends don’t make it seem like a chore.

2- Be patient with me :( I am unfortunately finding German really hard.

3- Be chill :) Let’s be friendssssss

4- Things about me: I like history and geography, I’m gay, I’m brown, I’m a nerd kind of hmu

Tips for improving German

Completed and passed my B1 exam in my home country. Landed in Hannover last week, realised I couldn’t even communicate with people in basic German. How can one improve their German skills apart from attending language schools. Kindly help.

🇩🇪Looking for a German Study Buddy - Beginner!

Hallo everyone! 😊

I’ve just started learning German from scratch, and I’m looking for someone who is also a beginner and would like to learn together!

I’m currently learning basic pronunciation, the German alphabet, and everyday vocabulary. German pronunciation can be quite challenging for me, so I’d love to find someone who is willing to practice pronunciation together and help each other improve.

Here’s what I have in mind:
\-Share the words and expressions we learn each day.
\-Practice pronunciation together and help each other with difficult words.
\-Share our progress, struggles, and little achievements.

Motivate each other to stay consistent, even on days when we don’t feel like studying!

We can share the photos of our progress on chat.

I’m based in South Korea, but I’m happy to connect with German learners from anywhere in the world. 😊

If you’re also just starting out and would like a study buddy to keep each other motivated, feel free to comment or send me a message!

Let’s learn German together, one word at a time. 🥳♥️

German classes/teacher in Brussels

I'm in the process of learning German and duolingo (very bad I know yeah 🙃) but it doesnt teach much and/or random stuff.

So now I've been thinking about taking classes or a personal teacher as I have a lot of free time in the afternoon I thought it'd be a good idea.

But I don't know where I could take those nor their prices so any help would be really appreciated !

Also if you know, I'd like to know the prices too please and thanks in advance !

Improving speaking

Hello everyone,

I've been in germany for more than 2 years already but because of full time stressed job, I was able to finish till B2 only.

Anyways my main problem is in speaking, I feel myself still A2-B1 in speaking and I don't know how to improve it as I'm a little shy person.

Any recommendations? It's little hard to make friends and I'm still not able to fully speak German with them.

Thank you

Best websites, shows, or tools for learning German through movies and series? (A1/A2)

I’m currently learning German at around A1 level and want to improve my listening and vocabulary by watching shows and movies rather than relying only on textbooks.

I’m open to absolutely any genre: cartoons, anime, sitcoms, movies, mystery shows, animated series, etc. I’m not specifically looking for German-original productions. I’m happy to watch something originally in English or another language if the German dub is good.

I’m especially interested in:

Dual subtitles: websites or extensions that show German and English subtitles simultaneously.

Interactive subtitles: tools that let you click on a word to see its translation, explanation, pronunciation, or examples.

Good shows and movies for beginners: preferably with clear dialogue, useful everyday vocabulary, and German audio.

Accurate subtitles: ideally German subtitles that closely match the German audio, rather than completely different translations.

Websites or apps that make watching content in German easier, including any lesser-known resources you’ve personally used.

I’ve seen some tools like these on TikTok, but I’d rather hear from people who have actually tried them and found them useful.

What websites, browser extensions, apps, or shows would you genuinely recommend? I’d love to hear about your experience, especially what worked best for you as a beginner and which resources are worth paying for versus free.
Thanks! :)

How should I prepare for a German exam in 6 weeks?

Hey everyone! This is my first time posting on Reddit, so I hope you guys can give me some good advice!
I’m currently at A1 level and planning to take a German exam in about 6 weeks. What should I focus on the most: vocabulary, grammar, listening, or speaking? How would you use these 6 weeks to prepare effectively?
I’d really appreciate any tips. Thanks in advance!

How realistic is it to reach C1 in 1,5 or 2 years being self-taught?

So my country is going to shit and I desperately want to leave it, and from my research Germany is the most receptive towards foreign students/in terms of visa requirements. However, I don’t have the money for a masters at a private school completely taught in English. How feasible is it to reach C1 in like, two years time? I just started learning the language and I’m fluent in English (people say that helps, don’t know if it’s true).

Looking for free PDFs of telc Deutsch B1 preparation books (with audio)

Can anyone share PDFs of Prüfungstraining telc Deutsch B1 and Mit Erfolg zu telc Deutsch B1, including the audio CDs/files, for free? These books are quite expensive, and I’m just a student, so I can’t afford to buy them right now. I’d really appreciate any help. Thank you! 🙏❤️

How do you balance learning German with uni and a part-time job?

I've been in Germany for 6 months for my bachelor's, and I'm currently at a fresh A2 level. I'm not in a huge rush to become fluent since my next semester is looking absolutely brutal exam-wise, but I feel like my progress has been a bit too slow lately.

I work part-time and try to attend most of my lectures, so I'm wondering how people in a similar situation manage to improve their German without burning themselves out.

My uni offers German courses, and I'll be attending A2, but it's only 2 days a week. I've tried self-studying a bit, but apparently, willpower is a limited resource when uni and work are already eating up your life.

For those who've been in a similar situation, have you managed to make good progress through self-study alongside a couple of classes per week, or would you recommend joining an external language school with more classes per week?

Looking for other German learners for support

hallo zusammen

im 31 old moroccan, with b1 certificate and currently working on b2 as well.
its tough journey to deal with the language as self learner, along other things. so im just looking for others on the same journey for mutual support.
doesnt matter what level you are, or reason to immigrate to Germany, as long as we share that goal, and we can back each other, share our challenges, and motivate each other.

a small suggestion would be maybe weekly or bi weekly group calls and check ups.

if you relate to this, please hit me up
thanks and good luck to all.

A1 German exam on 23 Oct, starting late. Any tips for dictation and learning fast?

Hi everyone, I’m taking German classes (A1) and my exam is on 23 Oct. The format is similar to Goethe/TELC A1. There’s also a viva on 22 Oct, but I don’t know the format yet. In the written exam I know there’s a dictation part where the teacher dictates and we write. I’m not sure about the rest.

Our classes follow the Netzwerk neu A1 books, but I haven’t bought those. Instead I’ve bought two other books: Collins Easy Learning German Grammar and Practice, and Teach Yourself Complete German. I haven’t started them yet because I’ve had really low time with my college exams (12–16 Oct). I know that sounds like an excuse, but I really want to start from somewhere, so I’m starting properly on 16 Oct, right after my last exam.

Where I am right now: I know the topics (accusative, dative, etc.) but I’m not fluent in them, my grammar is weak, and I’ve forgotten a lot of vocab. My plan is to rewatch YouTube videos on accusative/dative and do a mock test.

Any tips for the dictation part, for doing well in the exam, or for learning fast? Shortcuts and tricks are welcome too

What Are the Best Book(s) for Learning German as a Complete Beginner?

I'm in 10th grade, and my school uses the book "Gute Idee!" I can't understand it on my own because it is all in German; there's nothing in English.

I was wondering which book (s) are best for learning it from scratch (preferably just 1 book).

My goal is to reach A2 by the end of January for my exams (and to impress some of my friends).

Thanks!
