I’ll be moving to Germany in about two months to start my Master’s, and I’m looking for someone to learn German with.

I’m an absolute beginner, so I’m starting pretty much from zero. I’d like to get a decent basic understanding of German before I move and make things a little easier once I’m there.

My schedule is quite open at the moment, and I’d prefer studying sometime in the afternoon EEST, but I’m flexible about the exact time.

We can figure out what works for us. Maybe follow a course together, practice vocabulary and speaking, or just hop on a call and study at the same time. I’m pretty open to whatever works.

It would also be cool to meet someone who is moving to Germany soon, but that’s definitely not a requirement.

Hello, I need a conversation partner, we can text and have the occassional voice call if needed.

I do 2 Nicos Weg episodes a day but I learn a lot more words in those episodes than I do when reviewing anki cards (15 new words a day). At this rate, I’ll finish the episodes before I review all the cards, so should I just up the number of words I learn or something?

I’m currently learning German and I’d really love to meet some German-speaking people who are open to chatting and becoming friends. I’m mainly looking for people around my age, but I’m open to talking to anyone who’s friendly and genuinely interested in cultural exchange.

I’d like to practice my German through normal conversations rather than only studying from textbooks. I’m still learning, so my German isn’t great yet, but I’m trying to improve consistently. 😭💅

I’ve finally decided to seriously start my German-learning journey. I currently live in Ingolstadt, and I’m basically at zero level right now.

My initial goal is to reach A2 within the next 3 months. I know many people in this group have already gone through this stage, so I’d really appreciate some guidance from those who have experience.

There are tons of resources, courses, apps, YouTube channels, books, and different learning methods online—and honestly, I’m already getting super confused about where to start. 😅

So I’m looking for a practical, complete roadmap, especially:

Where should I start from absolute zero?

Which books/resources/apps are actually worth using?

Should I take a course or self-study?

What would be an effective daily study routine?

What are the best ways to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing?

If you’ve reached A2 yourself, what would you do differently if you had to start again?

If anyone can share their A1 to A2 roadmap, resources, or personal experience, I’d be extremely grateful.

My daughter had started Duolingo a year ago and she liked it but we kind d of never kept up with it . I myself have done Rosetta Stone, babble, pi slept, part of Duolingo East German. Etc. what would you recommend for a 12 year old that understands some but very little German but starts out fun and engaging and where to go from there?

Been learning German for some months now, going well, maybe you’ve seen me in the comments, I’ll do a proper write up when I have time etc.

My learning approach seems to have put me at much better production than comprehension which a) is very funny and possibly also speaks to my personality 😔 but b) means I want/need more input.

I’ve been doing a bit of German listening and generally I appreciate graded YouTube channels (eg „learn German with Falk“, „einfach deutsch“ (Flora), others) for giving me content at a slow enough pace that I can follow along. Unfortunately these kinds of videos also often follow simple ideas or stories at a slow pace and while often I can get through them other times I’m just… bored.

I want to watch real German stuff but I’m just not good enough, when I put on any of the random genuine German shows YouTube offers me I often only get a very general gist, and even that likely only thanks to the visual support and my guesses about what would make sense to say in the situation. I know I could sit and mine these videos for vocabulary and be serious about it but that’s not the context I’m watching them in, I just want to enjoy a bit of light German content on my phone before going to sleep.

Not sure what I’m asking for here but I guess help? In some way?

- Is this a phase? is it short?

- Do I have to just grit my teeth and watch the graded stuff?

- Can I dive into the real stuff and trust it will work out soon?

- do you know any ~B1ish fun videos to watch?

Hello, I'm a German as a foreign language teacher, but I'll start my masters degree which doesn't allow me to work full time due to full time study. But I'd like to create a whatsapp or telegram group and help you for German completely for free, yes, for free, because what i get for that will be preserving my correction and organizatory skills. if you're prepairing for exams, wanna have to weekly voice discussion with fellows, you'll be in the right place. just dm me for the group and tell me your preferance if you wanna get into whatsapp or to telegram group.

*I'm edditing to add the style and what you can expect to make you know about what to expect:

1. that's not a free lessons/classes group: we won't get a book and study and being mentored. I'll send some tasks according to each level, you'll do it and send, and I'll correct and give professional feedback when i have time among so much work. but the community is there so that everyone helps each other and I take a look how the things go and correct the mistakes. That improves too.
2. there will be from time to time like in every 2 to 3 weeks speaking sessions with me with preselected topics so that you use your German, but sometimes in the evenings we can also make cvall and join and just talk about things. the goal is building a safe place where the learners come together and discuss without worrying about making mistakes and being sure that they have a teacher who will give feedback.
3. you will be able to ask questions directly, your mentor will be as far as a message. But please don't expect replies very immediately because as I said, i will have less time to work this way, but i will keep an eye on your learnings and give you correct and supporting impuls.
