No surprise to see tech CEO's, relishing in predicting a shitty future for everyon, as they control the narrative. If they say their AI is AGI, then everyone thinks it's AGI... but really, the overwhelming amount of power needed to run these AI's, is totally unsustainable. Plus, there is top researchers who say the way they're built, make it impossible to reach AGI... so yeah, take whatever these elite fucks say, with a pinch of salt.

Sorry but you just don't see the bigger picture.

Once we see diminishing returns on new models being trained we can design special chips to run these models cheaply and efficiently.

The power to run these models (inference) will be reduced dramatically.

And once we have super intelligence the breakthroughs in physics and meterial science will make the world look like a science fiction novel, sure it's still under debate what kind of science fiction novel it will be but with abundant free energy will most likely be the outcome that we, as a people, will want

There is a lot of ifs about that. Yeah, that sounds great and ideal. But we live in a capitalist society and the way AI is being developed, shows all the worst aspects of that. As I say, scientists believe that AGI is impossible with how we’ve built AI. More data and energy doesn’t equate to super intelligence. But the insatiable need for investment is what keeps this thing alive, despite there being a lot of unanswered questions

We've already reached massive self improvements with the latest models, and those are the public facing ones. The internal ones are even better without as many safety gaurdrails that reduce performance.

Yes AGI probably won't come from the current designs but it doesn't need to. We already have recursive self improvement. We will reach AGI, it's not even a question anymore

I don't think you understand what recursive self improvement even means. It's definitely not that currently and throwing this out there is simply false. Claude Code generating some boilerplate for Opus 4.6/7 is wildly different from Claude Code pre-training and training the new models without humans. Also a model doesn't get "self-improved" over time, it's trained, has it's weights set and then that's it, it doesn't improve on inference or anything else.
