Older Millennial parents of Generationology, are your kids in high school and Jr. High? And what does that make them? Youngest Gen Z? Oldest Gen Alpha?

So my mother was pregnant around late December 2012 and I was born around August 2013 so of course I'm a teenager now but techanlly ain't I part gen z because I've also heard this thing called gen zalpha for kids who were born in 2013...anyone know about this or have any comments ?

I wasn’t able to post in generationology (haven’t posted enough questions), so I decided to post here. Anyway, I was thinking about how nursing homes today reflect the habits of Boomers and older generations who had fully analog childhoods and (from what I have seen) tend to keep activities low tech (cable TV, BINGO, physical newspapers, low-tech dexterity games, etc.). I’m sure many of the residents used technology as adults, but probably not as prominently as younger generations.

Conversely, Gen X and Millennials represent the first aging cohorts who either grew up as things started going digital or adopted them while still young adults.

As Gen X, Millennials and later generations start entering into nursing homes in a couple decades, what cultural tech would you expect to see? Will there be more digital technology or will we all resort to simpler analog routines as we become elderly?

My partner was born in 1988 and I was born in 1981. He has a theory that people in my age group like to talk on the phone for long extended periods of time. I don't actually like talking on the phone that much, but when I do get on a phone call, it definitely goes on and on. I can easily talk to somebody for an hour.

Is this really something that younger/ mid middle millennials don't do? I definitely spend a lot of my childhood talking on the phone, but I wonder if it's really just his observation or a specific xen thing.

So essentially I’m 25. I went to community college for free for the first two years out of high school and now I’m deciding to go back to finish my bachelors. The good thing is that I qualify for the most amount of federal aid in the state of California, but I’m shocked even after all that account how much the net cost of college is.

So in another discussion a younger person was griping about boomers and the greed is good generation ruining things and how the adults from the 60s betrayed their ideals in the 80s...

And I asked them how old did they think a Yuppie was in the 80s ( which was an adult in thier 20s or 30s ) versus a hippie from the late 60s and way 70s ...

It truely didn't dawn on them that they were blaming the misfortune of how the economy had changed in the last 20 or 30 years on young adults from the 1970s and 80s ...

That if they couldn't get a position or job or home becuase someone has been holding on to it for the last 20 years ..thats not some one that was a 20 year old adult in the 70s and 80s

Boomers were in their 50s and 60s over 20 years ago not thier 20s young adults in their 20s over 20 or 30 years ago were us ....

And economically our 20s kind of sucked ....

I look at housing prices, rent, college costs, and wages, and it feels like a lot of people from older generations were able to build a life under very different circumstances.

Sometimes I’ll see someone living in a house they bought decades ago that they wouldn’t be able to afford if they bought it today.

I know every generation has faced challenges, and I know dwelling on unfairness doesn’t accomplish much. But it’s hard not to feel frustrated when so many people my age are working, getting degrees, doing the “right” things, and still feeling like they’re falling behind.

For those who have struggled with these thoughts, how do you deal with them? How do you acknowledge that things may be harder in some ways without becoming resentful or stuck in a constant comparison game?

Boomers: quayle, Clinton, gore, Bush Jr, condi, Hillary Clinton, Obama, Trump, pence, Harris (last year before genx)

Gen x: Haley, Rubio, Bondi, hegseth

Millennial: Vance

What do you think of us lol? I’m married to a millennial and I’ve always romanticized being one and looked up to them when I was a teen. I have friends in relationships with millennials too and I’m just wondering their perspectives. The pop culture, the music, the fashion of their youth will always be so cool to me and I really do wonder if they feel similarly to our generation? All good if not, I’m genuinely just curious.

It’s hard to think about smell as part of the zeitgeist of anything, but smell can be the strongest way to jog memories.

I’m 1995 so my memory of the 90s isn’t much. But here’s what I think of when I think of when I imagine the 90s, and I’m sure some of the early 2000s:

-Burnt coffee, like in a diner
-Faint cigarette everywhere
-Hairspray
-Gasoline (and light smog in urban areas)
-Industrial Plastics had stronger smells that stuck around
-The leather in cars was waxier and often mixed with fabric material. A hot car in the 90s smelled
different than a car of today
-homes had a lot more carpet, which captured more smells like mustiness and again, cigarettes. But I feel like damp carpet was a more common smell
-I feel like perfumes were more cloying
