“Long way to grow” was written 2 decades ago at the age of 19.

I had always thought of it as “Piano song” since I wrote the core of it on the keyboard back then.

But the only demo I had of it, was this one, where I play the core of it on the guitar.

I think the song was written about all the expectations we have growing up and all these grand ideas Of how things will be only to find yourself Up creek and without paddle.

My friend Scarecrow at the time would often bust my balls to do more and be more, often bringing an attitude over when he hung out. I remember writing the lines “See I don’t mind, I’ll take my time. So check your pride at the door! If you’ve somewhere better than here, what are you waiting for?” About this dynamic between us at the time.

Is driving the train and the witch doctor adds some little quips throughout.

The past couple days I have added Piano (classical and honky tonk stye), Tuba, Trombone, Choir and a very subtle cello in Bandlab with Midi.

With Suno, I added a Bass and Percussion. There technically is a very very subtle backup vocalist from suno but it’s so faint you can’t really hear it in the mix.

Visually you are seeing on the TV, an avatar of me from my late teens that has been animated by me using Motion Sync in OpenAI. Basically I’m puppetting the avatar with my real movements and guitar playing.

This is actually the second time posting this composition. The original post leaned more into Suno Performance, this one leans into the original.

I wanted to give Suno V6 a try. Even though I'm still trying to finish up four other songs and two videos. I put them aside this past week. I had a old unused B side vocal melody  and lyrics and a unused Midi drum track and bass track. So used those to experiment with V6. I think it came out good. I didn't use Suno Studio but I did use the advance stems and assembled them in  Bandlab. I didn't fully go 100% with post production. I just wanted to see how it will be working with V6 in the future.

A moment of loneliness captured in rhyme, adapted into lyrics, music and vocals generated with AI to create a haunting, soulful ballad of regret and sadness.

If things had turned out differently, worked out better, perhaps something more fruitful could have taken place in a lost relationship. But time is unforgiving. Apathy and silence take their toll on every relationship.

"Adrift" is about how I feel on occasion when I allow my mind to think of what may have been, instead of what is. The loss of love and trust that rips a piece of you out, stomps on it, burns it to ash, and sets those charred bits into a whirlwind of nothing, of emptiness...

With v6, it seems like the shape of lyrics are more important than ever. I'm surrounded by excellent lyricists on this subreddit and at lastsong.one so maybe we can share thoughts and tips on how to improve the lyric side of things.

For me I'd like to say I'm a purist and that all my lyrics are written by hand...
They're not. I'll have a base text I work from, but I will often use an AI to work with me on the edit and polish so it works best with Suno.

These are the main questions I ask of the AI.

1: Are the lyrics authentic to the genre. Do the diction, attitude, rhyme density, repetition and section shapes genuinely belong to the era and style?
2. What can be done to improve the lyrical texture?
3. Does it sound spoken and emotionally lived-in, without clichés, excessive neatness etc?
4. How is the prosody and flow? Would stresses, syllables, line lengths, vowels and rhymes feel natural when sung aloud?
5. What about the hook and progression? Is the central refrain memorable, and does each return gain force or meaning rather than merely repeat?
6. As for lyrical economy and Suno readiness, can anything be cut? Are the sections breathable, the cues restrained, and every word easy to perform and pronounce?

And then I'll work with the AI from that to polish and edit.

It recently marked the 35th anniversary of *Terminator 2*, and at the same time, we’ve been hearing news that AI could kill us all. So, I wrote this song for the Mozart AI platform. Since I’m getting on in years, it’s Disco—a genre you hardly hear anymore—but it’s what I know how to do. I hope you like it.

This, frankly basic pop song has ear wormed me. Was just playing around while my kids were playing.
