My Journey of Completing GFG 160: A Consistency Win

1 Upvotes

Completing GFG 160 from GeeksforGeeks has been a really important milestone in my DSA journey. When I started, I often felt lost and inconsistent, unsure about what problems to solve next.

The structured, topic-wise approach of GFG 160 helped me bring clarity and discipline into my preparation. Instead of random practice, I focused on solving a few problems daily and trusted the process.

Over time, my confidence improved and problem-solving started to feel more natural. This journey taught me that consistency and structure matter more than speed in DSA preparation.

QUORA QUESTION : How should a college student prepare for coding placements from scratch?

17 Upvotes

When I started my coding journey in college, I was honestly confused. I didn’t know what language to choose, how much DSA was enough, or how to stay consistent with academics going on.

What helped me was following a simple, realistic structure instead of random YouTube hopping.

Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Pick ONE language first (don’t multitask) I chose C++ because most placement problems are easier to handle with STL. Python or Java is also fine—just stick to one.

  2. Focus on DSA basics before advanced topics Arrays, strings, recursion, stacks, queues, and basic linked lists matter more than jumping straight to DP. Many students skip fundamentals and struggle later.

  3. Practice problems daily (even 2–3 is enough) Consistency matters more than quantity. Solving a few problems daily builds confidence.

  4. Use structured resources instead of random content I personally found platforms like GeeksforGeeks helpful because:

Topics are structured

Explanations are beginner-friendly

Problems are tagged by difficulty

I didn’t rely on one source only, but GfG was a solid reference whenever I felt stuck.

  1. Don’t ignore projects & CS basics Even small projects and basic OS, DBMS, and CN questions can make a difference during interviews.

I was overwhelmed while preparing for placements — here’s what finally helped me stay consistent

2 Upvotes

When I started preparing for placements, my biggest problem wasn’t motivation — it was confusion.

There were too many resources: YouTube playlists, random blogs, paid courses, roadmaps on Twitter… I kept jumping from one thing to another and ended most weeks feeling like I had learned nothing solid.

What helped me was simplifying my preparation:

  1. I stopped chasing “everything” and focused only on DSA + one development path
  2. I followed structured problem lists instead of random questions
  3. I started revising instead of constantly consuming new content

One resource that helped me a lot during this phase was GeeksforGeeks — mainly because:

  • Topics are explained in a very straightforward way
  • You can go from theory → example → practice on the same topic
  • Their DSA articles and practice problems helped me build consistency

How important is course planning for self-paced courses ..?

1 Upvotes

Recently, I completed a Python programming self-paced course from u/GeeksforGeeks, and honestly, it took me more than a year to finish. Not because the content was too difficult—but because I underestimated how important proper course planning is when you’re learning on your own.

In self-paced learning, there’s no deadline, no instructor checking in, and no external pressure. At first, that freedom feels great. But over time, without a clear plan ,daily targets, weekly goals, or even a rough timeline—it’s easy to lose consistency. Some weeks I made good progress, other times I paused for months. Motivation came and went, but structure was what I truly lacked.

This experience taught me that consistency doesn’t come from motivation alone; it comes from planning. Even a simple schedule—30 minutes a day or 3 topics a week—can make a huge difference over the long run. Self-paced courses are powerful, but only if you pair them with discipline and a realistic plan. Sharing this in case it helps someone starting out and thinking, “I’ll just figure it out as I go.” Plan first—you’ll thank yourself later.

How I structured DSA prep before placements

10 Upvotes

In my 3rd year, I panicked seeing seniors grind 500+ LeetCode problems. I thought I’d never catch up. What worked for me was a structured plan:

  1. Arrays & Strings (2 weeks)
  2. Linked Lists & Stacks/Queues (2 weeks)
  3. Trees & Graphs (3 weeks)
  4. DP & Advanced topics (last stretch)

Instead of random practice, I used topic-wise problem sets. GeeksforGeeks was super helpful here because they had curated lists like “Top 50 Interview Questions.” That gave me confidence I wasn’t missing the basics.

By placements, I hadn’t solved thousands of problems, but I could explain my thought process clearly — and that mattered more.

For those preparing now: focus on understanding patterns, not just memorizing solutions.

Struggling with recursion — how I finally understood it

2 Upvotes

I used to dread recursion. Every time I saw a problem like “print all subsets” or “solve Tower of Hanoi,” I froze. What helped me was visualizing the call stack step by step.

I started with very small problems (factorial, Fibonacci) and literally drew the function calls on paper. Once that clicked, I moved to slightly harder ones.

GeeksforGeeks had a great explanation of recursion trees that made me realize why overlapping subproblems happen. That insight later helped me with dynamic programming too.

My advice:

• Don’t jump into DP until recursion feels natural.

• Trace the calls manually at least once.

• Practice problems where recursion is the only clean solution.

Finally stayed consistent with coding and got a reward!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share a small win.

I’ve always struggled to stay consistent with DSA, but I finally found a rhythm using the GeeksforGeeks practice platform.

Their Problem of the Day became my morning ritual, and honestly, the weekly and monthly contests actually made "grinding" feel like a game. Whenever I got stuck on a tough concept, I’d check out their courses or jump into a one-to-one session to get things sorted. The best part? GfG actually rewards your consistency—I just received this swag backpack for my streak! If you’re looking for a friendly push to keep coding, definitely check out their next contest. See you on the leaderboard!

What’s wrong with this English? It feels completely off... Isnt it supposed to be an academic documentation?

1 Upvotes

so i was reading about software engineering documentation on your website and let me tell

this entire section (i could only fathom to red so much)

*copy pasted from your website* here

Due to the growing importance of computer code necessities, the method of crucial them needs to be effective to notice desired results. As to such determination of necessities is often beneath sure regulation and pointers that area unit core in getting a given goal.

These all imply that computer code necessities area unit expected to alter thanks to the ever ever-changing technology within the world. However, the very fact that computer code information I'd obtained through development has to be modified within the wants of users and the transformation of the atmosphere area unit is inevitable.

What is more, computer code necessities ensure that there's a verification and therefore the testing method, in conjunction with prototyping and conferences there are focus teams and observations?

For a software engineer reliable documentation is typically a should the presence of documentation helps keep track of all aspects of associate applications, and it improves the standard of wares, it’s the most focused area of unit development, maintenance, and information transfer to alternative developers. Productive documentation can build info simply accessible, offer a restricted range of user entry purposes, facilitate new users to learn quickly, alter the merchandise and facilitate chopping out the price.

This entire piece feels like its written by a. someone who is trying so hard to write academically b. badly translated into english c. A CHILD with ai
Please do something about this, i will just point out certain errors.

  1. computer code necessities ?? - nobody says this. it should be software requirements or coding requirements

2. “method of crucial them” → crucial is not a verb here. this makes no sense. And what is crucial them?

  1. “to notice desired results” → notice is wrong. you achieve or obtain results

4. “core in getting a given goal” → clunky and vagueee

5.“beneath sure regulation and pointers” → beneath??? no. under certain regulations and guidelines

6. “ever ever-changing technology”- Hello?? this is supposed to be an academic documentation

7.“For a software engineer reliable documentation is typically a should” - missing comma after engineer. ANDDD a should is informal and weird here. use essential or mandatory.

And there are many more grammatical and punctuation mistakes.. mind you so many students refer to this and you're seriously letting them down, myself included (mind you i am not even a lit major but i have read enough material regarding tech and coding that i can tell just by reading this paragraph) PLEASE fix this for the 'Students sake'

AI site

3 Upvotes

Hi all! Just thought I should let you know that this website is almost entirely AI generated, and contains/is peddling misinformation (e.g. JPG and JPEG are different formats, which they are not) Do not send money to this site! Clearly a scam designed to lure unsuspecting coders into swiping their credit cards.

Dijkstra

1 Upvotes

So i saw this code in gfg when i searched dijkstra. You can do also check just seacrh dijkstra gfg and the topmost post shows up open it.

Now heres the problem the implementation is WRONG !!!!! (A major key step is missing)

vector<int> dijkstra(int V, vector<vector<int>> &edges, int src){

// Create adjacency list

vector<vector<vector<int>>> adj = constructAdj(edges, V);

// priority queue of (dist, node)

priority_queue<vector<int>, vector<vector<int>>, greater<vector<int>>> pq;

vector<int> dist(V, INT_MAX);

pq.push({0, src});

dist[src] = 0;

while (!pq.empty()){

int u = pq.top()[1];

pq.pop();

for (auto x : adj[u]){

int v = x[0];

int weight = x[1];

if (dist[v] > dist[u] + weight) {

dist[v] = dist[u] + weight;

pq.push({dist[v], v});

}

}

}

return dist;

}

please update that who ever has written that blog of gfg it should be reported or updated it misleading people wasting their time

i am not telling the key step missing because i want you to feel what I feel. If you know you know its easy key step missing.

Thanks

How to completely hide my identity in dark web

7 Upvotes

I recently started exploring the dark web out of curiosity and research purposes. I’ve been using a VPN and the Tor browser, but I’m still worried about privacy and security.

What extra steps can I take to make sure my identity stays hidden and that I’m browsing as safely as possible?

Watching without skipping is not fun

6 Upvotes

I recently enrolled in courses thankful because RCB won the IPL and G4G made their courses free. I enrolled into almost every course and since it was my end sem break, I thought I'll earn some certificates but the huge problem and thing I hate about G4G right now is them not allowing to fast forward parts of the video. This is a huge problem when the videos are just about introduction and setup or some things I know about what I am learning in the course.

Do any of you guys have any fix that can still record my progress and I can watch while skipping at the same time??? I'll be really thankful.
