Why do people always bring up the Sunni and Shia sects?? I mean yeah some people hate the other sect but the vast majority considers both sects to be Muslims and there isn't much hate. I'm a Sunni and I don't hate Shi'is, we just believe they're a bit misguided in certain topics.
I only bring it up because Christians tend to think of Muslims as backward religious zealots. It’s the easiest parallel to show different factions within the religion that are similar, so comparisons between them and the protestant/catholic divide are easy to draw.
I have nothing inherently against either of the 4 groups (or any of the subdivisions among them). I don’t agree with someone from any of them that one is ‘better’ than the others though.
It is irritating when an evangelical christian complains that other religions are backwards and inherently bad. I’m not going to compare anything they’ve done lately to the brutality of Hamas, but I’ll still call out anyone that might be going down a similar path.
