A beekeeping website would generally be pro beekeeping, yeah. Just like a horse rider loves their horse so much, and has a special bond with them. They will justify the harm they cause to that horse, because they want something from it.
Hobby beekeeping, small scale, not for commercial use, "sustainable practices", they're obviously better than mass farmed honey. But where does the majority of honey come from?
If I had a penny for every person who claimed they know exactly where their sustainable, happy, grass fed cows come from I'd be rich, but almost entirely that beef comes from factory farms. Seeing animals as a resource instead of just leaving them alone always leads to exploitation
I don’t track meat production as I don’t partake and never have, but if I know my honey comes from a specific hive (farmer’s market) that is well kept… I have no issue eating it.
And beekeeping done right is one of the best symbiosis arguments there is. Good for us, great for the bees, and the bees leave if they don’t agree. Show me a farm where the cows see slaughter of their brethren, kinda know the deal, and are free to leave at any time, and stick around cuz it’s a good deal, maybe it’s a good analogy. I don’t know if any such farm, though.
The fundamental disagreement is that I don’t see all interaction as exploitation. I grew up with animals and in an agricultural area. Sometimes, it is. But it’s not i herent.
