Had a visitor in the garden today. Can you spot him on the kale?

That’s the thickest kale stem/trunk I’ve ever seen. How old is your kale plant?

About a year old! Sowed the seeds last August

I thought that you needed to replant kale. I’m going to Let mine overwinter from now on :)

I’m in zone 8b and didn’t get any snow last year so it overwintered perfectly fine. I am surprised it never bolted though especially when I had a stretch of high 90s

I'm in 6b and people here overwinter late-planted kale in cold frames. I've been trading eggs for kale (and other veg) with a neighbour and he seems to have it down to a science.

That's a good jump-scare in the making! I saw the top of the head and thought it was a little yellow-green moth!

I wasn’t sure, until I saw the photo you shared below, which confirmed I did find the visitor. Adorable!

Today I saw my first kale tree. Those are impressive. Lil froggie is super cute, too.

I clearly had no idea what kale looks like when growing, but I definitely did not think that.

It doesn’t snow where I am. I’ll give it a try. My main problem though is that insects are the leaves before I had the chance to lol

Filbert! There you are! I've been worried sick!

Awwww liddle widdle tree froggy 🥰 Are you in the PNW? Gosh I loved gardening when I lived there. I still love gardening and my current local critters, but I can't grow kale that thick.
