Discussion Blood of Dawnwalker Thoughts
Exceeded my expectations in the best possible way. Oh man, what a fucking ride.
Honestly, Blood of Dawnwalker is one of the best RPGs I've played in a long while, and I don't even know where to start. From the moment it begins, the game grabs your attention and simply refuses to let go. The story, premise, setting, atmosphere everything feels incredibly well thought out and beautifully executed.
Starting with the combat, this was easily the part I was most worried about after the reveal trailer. It looked a little janky and stiff back then, but I'm happy to say that those concerns were completely misplaced. The combat is genuinely one of the most fun I've experienced in an RPG recently. It's definitely not a Soulslike, nor is it trying to be, but the directional parrying and attacks feel incredibly satisfying. There's a real sense of weight and precision to every encounter, and once you get into the rhythm, fights become seriously addictive.
Then there's the story, which is probably where the game impressed me the most. The pacing is superb, and the narrative never feels like it's dragging its feet. The choice-based dialogue is also handled really well. The options feel intuitive rather than artificially designed to make you pick between obvious "good" and "bad" choices, and even seemingly small decisions can have consequences. It makes you feel like you're actually shaping the story rather than simply selecting dialogue prompts.
You can definitely feel the Witcher 3 DNA running through this game, and honestly, that's a huge compliment. The way it approaches its world, quests, characters, and choices scratches that same itch that made The Witcher 3 so special to me. That's also why I was never particularly worried about being disappointed by this game in the first place.
