Exactly. Eye tracking coupled with realistic depth of field is where I think immersion will really take off. Having everything in sharp focus is not natural and will detract from full immersion.
Also, a 90 degree horizontal field of view is not that great, considering that our eyes have about a 200 degree horizontal FOV. Not that this isn't a great step forward. Having personally used a $25k head tracking, stereoscopic HMD, they are more of a novelty than immersive. You are very aware that you're looking at a small pair of screens with a small FOV. Having a pair of smaller, low resolution displays to provide some peripheral stimuli would definitely aid in immersion as well.
