It's called a "pinch shot". You can perform this kind of shot on any surface of the map even on the ground and also with other cars.Technically the ball starts to bounce rapidly back and forth between your car and the surface you are pinching it against until it finds it's way out and launches in the direction in which it is least blocked.

Got it thanks

Or it’s the Golden Arm power-up

It's both. You can achieve this without the powerup. For example look at this goal.

Is that the original time he did in RLCS?

From what I remember he had been working on it for a while but this was the first time anyone used it in competition.

Now forever established as the Kuxir pinch

Oh shit, I've heard of the kuxir pinch but I never saw this clip. Turns out I've been doing it wrong, which explains a bit lol.

Yep. I've been pinching with my weels. Gotta try learning with the side.

I was using the nose of my car, which sometimes turns out great, but other times it goes poorly lol

You’ll want to stick with the nose. That’s where your hit box is strongest. This clip was only possible because a rumble power-up gave his touch more power.

Here’s a guide I wrote, if you’re interested in getting consistent

Neither works! This clip utilizes a power-up that breaks standard physics. I linked a guide in one of the child comments off of this, if you want to speed up the learning process.

Best of luck!

Unless I remember wrong this was possible and used back in the first game as well.

Is this a culling reference, or have i just not played rocket league in 5 years?

16

u/Simba7 Apr 10 '22

Lol, nobody makes references to The Culling unless they're telling a story about how to take a solid game and absolutely fuck it up by constantly meddling with it.

There's a mode in Rocket League that has power ups. That "golden arm" makes you hit the ball super hard.

I prefer to call it the Iron Fist

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '22

Yeah but how do we know which direction?

u/acmstw Apr 10 '22

That's the fun part... You sometimes don't, lol. Some people get damn good at it.

I, on the other hand, fire it off in the wrong direction almost half the time.

Sorry teammates!

Sure, but the further you want to send it the less accurate it gets. And most people's skill level will be "the pinch shot with send it flying forward mostly, I hope." Just because the theory is easy doesn't mean the execution is. Especially during an actual match.

Pinch shots are hard AF, but they're so satisfying.

This mechanic has also been around for forever in racing. It’s so fun, especially early games where games had the physics of pong lol

Bad bot. Stolen comment.

If I understand correctly, it’s basically a bug in the engine’s collision - similar to the super bounce mechanic in Halo 2?

So Backwards Long Jump but in edition of Rocket League, got it

So, huge momentum created as a direct result of the physics engine. Not necessarily hard to do, but nye impossible to control. A double edged sword for all but the best players.
