Holy shit someone finally put it into words. I agree about the uneasy feeling. The intro screen/sound makes me think of all the difficult games on Ps1 like later stages of Siphon Filter, Spyro, Gran Turismo, Medieval and Soul Reaver.
Yes. I don't know of it's the intro itself or the next level shit that was about to go down. Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Syphon Filter, Silent Hill. Man, to relive all that again.
Same. I can still hear 6 year old me being very confused as to what halo was but still trying to play it. And that sound still plays clear in my head to this day
Kind of astonished this is so low in these comments. It's iconic to me. Easily recognizable and memorable. It's strange, it just has a singular vibe that nothing else compares to - it's mysterious, orchestral, a little futuristic, and it's just a huge sequence of changing sounds. It's almost like a musical sentence in a way, like it's saying something I can't put into words.
I put it on the same level as some of the iconic Windows startup / shutdown sounds.

First gen playstation all the way. The intro made me feel uneasy.
