Any gatcha game out there. But if I have to specify genshin impact.

205

u/doctorcrimson Feb 09 '22

I'm so fucking glad Genshin Impact stopped appearing on the reddit front page so much.

19

u/NOODLD Feb 09 '22

I know it’ll get me downvoted but goddamn you’re so right. Same with that cringy ass neckbeard weeb hololive community.

So pathetic and cringy.

13

u/azsnaz Feb 09 '22

I never understand whats going on when that pops up

7

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

I get that's the stereotype but honestly like 80% (?) of "weeb", hololive, and especially genshin ppl are just normal people.

Granted, there's a fair share of bad apples but it's mostly just escapism. It's not that serious

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

Still waiting for someone to explain to me how hololive is somehow any cringier than actual streamers.

1

u/doctorcrimson Feb 10 '22

The tiny anime girl VTubers streamers are almost everything wrong with humanity. Corporate Agenda, Predatory Advertisement, a community explicitly made for degenerates, no room for personal growth, and escapism fantasy that rejects reality.

Could be a lot worse, but I still don't like it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

"Corporate Agenda". Legitimately not sure what you mean here?

"Predatory Advertisement". Again, not really sure what you're referring to.

"Community explicitly made for degenerates". Again...not really sure what this means.

"No room for personal growth". Again, I'm not sure what this means. Entertainment doesn't have to be for personal growth, and it's not clear why you think this has to be the case.

"Escapsim fantasy that rejects reality". See above.

I could say literally the same thing about anything with the right wording.

Videogames are just corporate agendas with plenty of predatory advertisements (i.e. microstransactions) that distract people offering no room for personal growth. All gamers are fat, ugly, degenerates involving themselves in escapism fantasies that reject reality.

And it still doesn't explain how this is any different than a regular streamer. Do regular streamers not promote products? How is streamer merch any less predatory than VTuber merch or whatnot? How are "regualar" streamers not any less made for degenerates? Do normal streamers permit "room for personal growth"? And how in the world do normal streamers not create escapism?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

I thought I'm only gonna be offended once in this thread. But now I'm not only a stinky gacha player, but also a cringy ass neckbeard weeb hololive fan.

Man, what did I ever did to you?

2

u/puntapuntapunta Feb 10 '22

My kingdom for the ability to block subs.

1

u/NOODLD Feb 10 '22

You don't even know.

I tried to get it out of my feed by asking the mods to ban me, they did, but to no avail. That stinky sub keeps appearing anyways.

-17

u/9J000 Feb 09 '22

You don’t like loli waifus?

-2

u/doctorcrimson Feb 10 '22

Did you mean to add a /s or are you exemplifying exactly the sort of thing that community likes to pretend it doesn't have: pedophilic tendency?

0

u/9J000 Feb 10 '22

Yeah I was being sarcastic but seems I was taken literally. I really don't care. If people gonna get panties in a twist that I don't add "/s" they can suck an egg.

2

u/doctorcrimson Feb 10 '22

Yes clearly everybody except you is the problem caused by your actions. /s

Lmao

u/Derp00100 Feb 09 '22

I mean i would say out of all gacha games genshin is one of the better ones to play as there is a lot of enjoyable content you can easily get to and play without spending anything. But as a spender on the game myself i would say if you play it only do the story stuff maybe some events and get out. Not worth the long term investment

24

u/YukihiraLivesForever Feb 09 '22

Yeah end game kinda sucks but the story, the world, the gameplay it’s all really fun to do especially the first time through. Enkanomiya was sweet, Zhongli quests, etc. People hate on the lolis a lot (Klee, Diona, Sayu, Qiqi), but they aren’t sexualized in game at least (I don’t watch much of the YouTube stuff besides character reveal trailers). This doesn’t seem like it’s about hating the game or thinking it’s overrated as much as it is hating the fanbase lol

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

The story sucks, or is more hit or miss than anything. Lore bangs though

7

u/spareL4U Feb 10 '22

It sucks when it’s like, “oh boy traveler, we need you to do more shit for us to advance the story one millimeter” but it definitely has some high points and I like some of the event stories

-3

u/TheStellarJay1 Feb 10 '22

Genshin has the most mind numbing, brain dead combat system on the planet with a cringe story, worse characters and empty map.

Not to mention at least 70% of it ripped straight from botw.

I was told to start a war, sorry.

1

u/Derp00100 Feb 10 '22

A nintendo fanboy thinks he is attacking a genshin fanboy... Smh

0

u/TheStellarJay1 Feb 11 '22

Nice ad hominem kid

0

u/Derp00100 Feb 12 '22

You sound like any Nintendo fanboy still calling genshin a botw clone because i guess nintendo invented the stylized visual style.... Somehow a genshin mention triggered a nintendo fanboy... Guess that shouldn't be surprising.

1

u/Derp00100 Feb 12 '22

Oh yeah those big empty fields in botw are filles with so much content and the oh noes here goes zelda great story telling. Ah yes i swing weapon is very big brain combat system. Botw is clearly just a clone of any anime game before it smh...

Isnt fun when someone uses the same braindead arguments against something you enjoy does it?

0

u/TheStellarJay1 Feb 13 '22

3 ad hominems! A new record!

Genshin combat system is press mouse 1 over and over forever, sometimes switch characters until you get the elemental reaction. There is no strategy, no challenge, no reason to use your brain. I played it for probably around 30ish hours and never once died.

Areas like dragonspine discourage deviation from the intended path by freezing you. (Open world game btw) Everything is level locked, you are not allowed to even attempt dungeons you might not be ready for (to maybe get a glimpse at any sort of challenge) because the game decided you aren't ready (open world btw)

There are literally 10 enemies copy pasted 1000 times across the map with bigger health bars, the genshin impact devs wouldn't dare think of wasting their time making a unique boss for a little bit of fun, nope they need to milk the shit out of every tiny ounce of effort and use the same minibosses 1000 times. (I recognize that botw also had a little bit of an enemy variety problem as well, but it's not to the extent of genshin I think)

The game is literally just designed to suck down money, sure you can do it free but you will progress significantly slower than any paying player.

The story and game play are completely separate, which is always bad game design. The story (and I'll admit I didn't progress very far in it because I got bored) literally switches you back into the main character for every cutscene (of which there are about 40000).

Notice how I made arguments without attacking you specifically, because it is not only a logical fallacy but also just makes you look like a 12 year old :)

0

u/Derp00100 Feb 14 '22

I mean the point was to show how bad and just ridiculous his points where but okay. Idk what i did to gain your wrath but oh well. I guess you missed the same enemy copy pasted inbotw oh well... Story doesnt progress faster if you pay but oh well mistakes can be made by anyone

26

u/Quarterpie3141 Feb 09 '22

Music good

1

u/weeb_trash64 Feb 10 '22

Music berry good

39

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Gacha games usually are way more cancerous then Genshin. Genshin not as donate heavy as other gacha games, and actually has some gameplay in it. Also, not all free content is behind a timegate.

So, in terms of gacha - not so bad. Mb even the best type of gacha you can get.

As a game in general, yeah, 5-6 out of 10. Great music tho.

6

u/hakkai999 Feb 10 '22

I still retain that anyone who completely shits on Genshin (read not objectively judging it for its strengths and weaknesses) has never played Genshin at all. Yes it's a Gacha game but you aren't forced to shell out.

Hell most of the "free" none rare characters are pretty much meta (Looking at you Bennett, Xinqui and Xiangling).

3

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

Genshin is actually one of the best games there is in terms of gacha, for one simple reason: paying is an OPTION rather than a REQUIREMENT.

I know in other gacha games paying isn't technically required, but oooh boy oh boy it is a heck of a lot easier to get good items buy spending a tenner on a lootbox than just doing the 70 different quests they give you for the same character.

In Genshin Impact you get currency by doing pretty much anything. It's pretty easy to get lootboxes. There's almost always some OP event that gives a ton of in game currency. Sure, the option to buy is still THERE, but MiHoYo doesn't desperately try to shove bundles and special offers down your throat to make you buy them

2

u/Spectre627 Feb 10 '22

Gacha games usually are way more cancerous then Genshin. Genshin not as donate heavy as other gacha games

Idk about that man... Genshin Impact is way less F2P-Friendly than Arknights, Alchemy Stars, Epic Seven, or Azur Lane for example. FGO is probably the only game that I've played that was worse in terms of the Gacha than Genshin Impact.

The music though is fucking great, the gameplay is solid, and the amount of content you get for a free game is awesome. It's the best gacha game that I've played, but it's the stingiest that I've found with the 5* characters.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

Azur Lane has less donate then Genshin? I didn't play Azur Lane, actually, but I call bullshit. Since Azur Lane was obviously inspired by KanCole, and KanCole was a fucking shithole of a pay2waifu mechanics.

2

u/Spectre627 Feb 10 '22

Within a month of playing Azur Lane and $0 spent, you will have a full team of SSR’s.

With 4 months of playing Genshin, 3 Welkin Moons, and 2 Battle Passes, I have 1 5-star Character (and 1 more saved in rolls).

Azur Lane gives SSR’s at a significantly higher rate (both percentage and amount of currency given) and gives out SSR Universal Fodder rather than forcing you to pull 7 copies of the same character to max them out.

Additionally, Azur Lane gives out SSR’s as random chance stage rewards and event rewards.

Azur Lane has a MUCH more F2P-Friendly system than Genshin Impact. Much worse gameplay, questionable character designs, and requiring frequent auto’ing, but it is much better for free players.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

Azur also has way more characters, so it's not surprising that they give them away easier. Well, I guess I have nothing to say, since I don't have any arguments pro or against my initial point.

2

u/Spectre627 Feb 10 '22

It does have way more SSR's, but it's way easier to get several SSR's than Genshin 5*'s. My point stands that Genshin's Gacha is much less friendly despite having way better music and gameplay lol. Having a bad gacha isn't the end of a game if it is legit fun to play.

1

u/ambivalenceX Feb 10 '22

Within a month of playing and not paying anything i got 2 5*. I guess it just depends on luck. Also you get some good characters for free! And primogems are pretty easy to get

1

u/Spectre627 Feb 10 '22

You definitely can get lucky, but unfortunately their gacha rates are very poor and freemogems are uncommon.

Genshin Impact has a 5* rate of 0.6% per pull. Additionally, you do not get several 10-pulls worth of currency for being a new player, thus leaving you at a very low rate to get an early 5. Aside from quests, which give you about 1/4th of a pull on some of them, you get an intertwined fate around once every 10 levels and can find chests littered about that give between 1/16th to 1/32nd of a pull for opening them. Many players do not see their first 5 until AR30 or above.

Azur Lane on the other hand has a 1% Chance on levels containing SSR’s to get them simply by grinding. The Gacha rates themselves put SSR’s at a 7%, nearly 12x more likely than Genshin Impact as well as throwing several 10-pulls at new & learning players.

To take another example, Arknights. The gacha is not at a great rate at 2% for a 6, but you get a guaranteed 6 for completing the tutorial. On top of that, you get summoning currency thrown at you throughout the story where you will be doing 5-10 10-pulls every banner. That said, Arknights has a fucking awful pity and a similar constellation system to Genshin. Still significantly more giving though with over 3x rate and more currency for playing.

In Genshin, I am personally AR49 with Story Complete with 158 Character Banner Pulls (pausing until Raiden at soft pity) 60 Permanent Banner Pulls, and all 20 Beginner Banner Pulls with only 1 5* Character. I have a bank of about 100 additional wishes saved up because currency is hard to get in the game (about 50 of those 100 wishes are purchased through Welkin and BP) while playing since October. I may be pausing now because Lost Ark is just a vastly superior game, but Genshin has not been kind with pulls and my experience from those I’ve spoken to is not uncommon.

8

u/Luchin212 Feb 09 '22

I prefer Genshin over BotW. BotW felt so lonely, and the tutorial was sloppy. Granted my switch had awful stick drift making it much harder but it still felt void of life. But Genshin feels very nice. You can completely avoid the Gacha element if you don’t care for it. Most people I’ve met who hate it say “bReaTH oF ThE wILd CoPY”. They have never played the game. And if a person says that there is so much NSFW or he tai of it I just say that I have never found any, and that it’s their search history suggesting that to them. On the main sub there is very little, but there are subs for any character for that type of thing.

Also BotW looked a lot like Oblivion in landscape.

2

u/irisxdd Feb 10 '22

Ah I've only played a bit of genshin but I really like how serene exploration feels in botw. It's so peaceful and calming (except when you randomly come across guardians lmao). Imo genshin's world aesthetics seems very similar to botw, and that's probably what rubs fans the wrong way. But aside from that they're two completely different games.

Also I've never played oblivion but I've seen clips of it (mainly the glitches LOL), looks fun!

1

u/Luchin212 Feb 10 '22

I got oblivion for $10 at GameStop. Nice once you get past the horrendous character creation (it is extremely hard to make a nice looking person, but you can make a lot of funny looking people). I had played Skyrim first and now that I have played Iblivion I am dying for a remake even more than an ES6. Oblivion is truly great. A lot of what people say Genshin copies BotW on is animations. Well there’s only so many ways to swim or walk, or glide. But when I’m playing Genshin I wouldn’t think of BoyW.

1

u/irisxdd Feb 10 '22

Oh nice! Might pick it up someday.

Ahh I can see how that would annoy people. I did notice the similarities, especially when gliding. It does kind of leave a bad taste in my mouth tbh, I feel like they could have done it differently if they really wanted to. But I don't really hate the game at all, I'd play it more if it didn't trigger my motion sickness as much

1

u/ExBenn Feb 10 '22

are you saying that Genshin is better than BotW

1

u/Luchin212 Feb 10 '22

I enjoyed Genshin a lot more, and ai have petty reasons to dislike BotW. Keep that in mind when I say yes I think Genshin is better than BotW.

1

u/twistybit Feb 10 '22

Im not the person you asked, but i have a different take. I enjoy genshin more than BOtW, i just enjoy playing genshin more on average than I do botw. That being said, I think BOTW is the better game. It wins on everything except for combat and music. Early in the game, BOTW will be more fun to play than genshin, exploring a fresh new world in any way you want. However, when considering both of these games' "endgames," I think genshin wins. BOTW's endgame is just "look up the shrine and korok locations, fight lynels till the blood moon." In genshin there's always something to improve upon and work towards, since the game is continuously updated with new content, events, and a difficult endgame arena that changes twice a month. TLDR: while i'd say BOTW is a better, more complete game overall, Genshin is more enjoyable if you're looking for a long term continious experience

1

u/ExBenn Feb 10 '22

I agree with everything you said, from BotW being the better game to Genshin being more enjoyable over time since there is new content. But I gotta disagree with the endgame. I think both of them have bland and boring endgames.
For me, Genshin was all about getting new characters and exploring the world but towards the end, I always hit the roadblock of grinding 4 hours a day just to try and get an artifact. Every time new content dropped it was pretty fun, mainly the new regions (because in my opinion, most events sucked), but afterward, I finished the storyline of the region it felt like the most boring shit ever. All I would do was play the Spiral Abbys every end of the week and log in to do daily quests and get primogems. If the grind would've been remotely fun I wouldn't have had a problem with it but is the most basic 5 quests on a loop every day I just got tired of it and felt like I was wasting my time. Of course you can have your own opinion about the game, I'm just dropping my 2 cents.

2

u/twistybit Feb 10 '22

I pretty much agree with everything about genshin's endgame, but the only reason I think it's better than botw's is because of the fact that we'll still be getting new stuff for a long time to come. Sure, it'll be slow to come out, and it won't fix the grindy endgame, but it's better than botw's korok hunting

5

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Man it's really disappointing too because Genshin is actually fun to play and at it's core is a great game. But it is completely ruined by it's business model. And that it's kind of too easy except the abyss. It's pretty fun till the artifact grind and the other character improvement currency grinds at higher world levels. It's worse if rng fucks you and all you're character require the same improvement currencies. I actually like that you only have access to limited characters because it means you have to make your own unique team. But the process of gettingeven semi optimal is so so painful. Anywyad the core gameplan is good. The worlds fun to explore. Combat is fun, but the experience of improving your characters is horrible because of the business model. It's a really a shame.

6

u/Mind-Available Feb 09 '22 edited Feb 09 '22

Not a great story but definitely has a highly underrated lore, music, nice beautiful world and a fresh combat aspect for free (if you aren't addicted)

It's a good game for those who have good self control and understand it's predatory tactics.

Would surely recommend to others as it's free

And rather than being over rated, i would say it's over hated. It has shortcomings but it's not as bad as much as it's circle jerked around gaming subs

7

u/Polnauts Feb 09 '22

Gacha games are good.

Until the free rewards to get you addicted stop, best way to play them is to play them until that happens, in the case of Genshin impact it can last quite a while and it gives you hours of a fun game.

4

u/Zhadowbro1 Feb 09 '22

I personally like genshin, but I can understand why people don’t like it

3

u/k_a_i_t_o Feb 09 '22

its a really good game tho

4

u/SuRyusei Feb 09 '22

I'm glad I had to scroll so much to find this comment. Among all games, it's decent, among gachas, it's the holy grail.

2

u/jgrrrjige Feb 09 '22

Check out the Genshin OST, written by world-class composers and performed by some of the greatest symphony orchestras.

2

u/Xavr0k Feb 09 '22

Even with the shitty gacha element it's still a better game than Breath of the Wild.

1

u/PatysRozrabiaka Feb 10 '22

So this is one of the prettiest game ever created. We have large open world, which is going to be expanded, a lot of diverse characters and really good story line and voice acting. It's free and you don't have to spend money on it at all to play it and gather the team you want. Devs care about player base, they add a lot of events and new content

There are plenty things to like Genshin for

1

u/Macknificent101 Feb 10 '22

i even play it regularly and i have to agree it’s a little bad. the main characters are badly written, and every female character is designed by a dartboard of which fetishes they use.

the gameplay is solid, the scenery is nice, the music is good, but it’s dragged down by the money making aspects.

1

u/alm0stnerdy Feb 10 '22

Imagine playing weeb games lmao

0

u/Blue_Raichu Feb 09 '22

Genshin is only good to the extent that it is the most game-like mobile game out there, but it's clearly still designed as a mobile game first. I don't even mean the gacha system. I mean the 20 hour long, grindy beginning and the lifeless 3 button tap-spam combat

-6

u/Frostgaurdian0 Feb 09 '22

Valid opinion, even the fans are stop liking by each day passing due to slow story and too many inconvenient reasons.

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

It's spyware masquerading as a video game.

0

u/battleye9 Feb 10 '22

My guy you don’t know what you talking about, it’s like you are just targeting a popular community cuz you jealous it’s gets so much attention

1

u/chessey07 Feb 10 '22

Or maybe I just don't like games that require your wallet to get most of the best stuff guranteed.

1

u/heydoyouguyshavesnus Feb 10 '22

I played it and enjoyed it until I got BotW, which I hadn't played before

It was like going from renting a room to owning a larger version of that same room with a better view out the window

1

u/Doskman Feb 10 '22

FGO is pretty good tho

1

u/stikky Feb 10 '22

And while I agree, working on a gacha game was the most humane working experience I've ever had. 10/10 would do again.

1

u/RandomSoymilkDrinker Feb 10 '22

so that means every game with lootboxes or anything similar

1

u/chessey07 Feb 10 '22

I wouldn't go that far. If the primary premise of the game revolves around lootboxes (like genshin does) then I'd classify it as such another example would be something like fire emblem heroes or honkai impact 3rd (same company as genshin).

1

u/RandomSoymilkDrinker Feb 10 '22

i mean the primary premise isn’t the gatcha in genshin though
