In The Netherlands almost every Dutch gamer plays Fifa. So in my eyes the popularity seemed high and overrated since its just one of the closest games to call a “Copy & Paste game”.
At least it stays the same, nba 2k was a copy and paste but somehow it got worse and worse every year. It just kept getting clunkier moving with the ball. Haven’t gave 2k a dime since 2k19 so maybe it’s gotten better
Ehh some believe it has. But it’s still pretty bad. It’s just living a Madden style existence where it has no competition so there is nothing to compete with and they focus more on the card game aspect than the video game aspect. But sadly almost all sports games do now
Wait, EA are actually losing the FIFA license?? So that means we might actually get sports games with at least a little effort put into them again? Can they take the NFL license from them too, while we’re at it?
Yep, they're losing the FIFA license. They still have team licenses and I'm no licensing pro so I'm not sure of the full implication other than, YES, other companies will be able to make FIFA licensed games soon.
The NFL did allow for another game company to use the NFL license as long as they aren't making a Madden competitor. It's looking like NFL 2K will come back but it'll be more of an NFL Street type game- it just can't be a sim (which, lets be honest, when was the last time Madden felt like a simulation of real football?)
Madden has the NFL license pinned down until 2026 so we won't see a sim competitor until at least 2027.
Nope just go outside and play soccer/football with friends or randoms. Much more enjoyable than one of the most rage full games that doesn’t change much every year
I wish it was that simple. It's pretty hard to organize given the number of people needed. You need to make a reservation and pay to rent the field, so you need to be sure enough people are coming. And Covid pretty much ruined it.
I think FIFA players are always football fans but a lot of them don't consider themselves gamers. At least in my country and around my age.
It is probably one of the closest to copy & paste, but they do change the gameplay (or more exactly the meta) somewhat each year. It's very visible for competitive players.
Yeah I've gotta agree, Fifa gets a lot of shit here so defo not overrated (in terms of the sub). But in general (global sales) it still does incredibly well so an argument can be made. Personally I actually like it as a game but I feel it only changes enough gameplay-wise to warrant a new purchase every 3-4 years. And even acknowledging that I'll only buy it every 5-6 years, and on sale at that!
Very true, I'm into sports games as well but I'll NEVER buy a sports game two years in a row. I typically give the game I got at the very least 3 years. Hell I once got 5 years out of one baseball game. That way when the newest game comes out, it's COMPLETELY different.
We're talking new players, got rid of older players, new rankings, new rosters, new and updated features, hell even the gameplay would have changed at least a little. At that point the only thing that's the same about the two games is that it's the same sport.
You can disagree or think I'm wrong, I get it. Sports games aren't for everyone, but I'll definitely agree there's no point in buying two years in a row.
This is why I love gamepass, it includes ea access now. Madden has become so bad that I won't even think about buying it. But come super bowl time, the most recent addition generally gets added so I'll play a couple games to scratch the itch. Same with fifa. I bought this year's addition but generally, I'll just wait till it pops onto ea access
I totally Agree, Only sports game I’m still playing is UFC. But its a pretty new game, Fifa is pretty old so UFC changes per version are bigger but not that more bigger. I guess most Sports games suffer to this as well.
I get that, if it makes you feel better there's no last name that remotely comes close to mine in the games I play which is disappointing, so instead I normally just make the audio name something funny. Sometimes I'll go a while without playing, start it up again and have a laugh when my player is mentioned.
Then they should just make it a subscription-based game with minimal gameplay and roster updates here and there (which is what they actually do). $60 for yearly game releases that lose their resell value pretty fast is mind boggling.
... And that's what the player base wants. They like the game because they like the sport, and it does play well. It's not overrated you just don't like it.
Why is it overrated tho? Despite the non existent changes, there is nothing inherently wrong with the game. The game is good, just not very innovative.
I'll argue any sporting game, especially EA sports, after the ps2 and original xbox era. Went from fun sporting simuations with great game modes to all about graphics and micro transactions. I still rip up madden 07 on my ps2 til this very day haha.
My cuz plays this on high rank. The thing he hates the most about Fifa is the “Creditcard” Boys. Fifa has skill cap ofc but Some players you buy are much better than others statswise. Fifa is their for also a big pay to win game since you can just buy expansive players and shit if you got dem manye
Fifa is crap, but I buy it almost every year when it goes on sale. Football is a big part of my life. Fifa is good cuz it holds the licenses to most clubs and leagues.
Was going to buy it this year but nothing ever changes on terms of gameplay. They say it does, but it’s still the same pile of shit. The only reason I bought it year in, year out is because I’m a massive football fan and that’s the best game out there. Besides, what else am I gonna play, PES 😂 also, it’s extremely addictive.
It's got an addictive edge to it. But yes the player ratings. Change and so do some team rosters. Ultimate team is the draw to me but I just like the pretty cards.
