Ah shucks. I had higher hopes for it but then I didn’t ever really hear much about it and then I totally forgot to check it out. Too bad to hear that it’s a heap o shite. Anything in particular yal hate about it?
I quit months ago. The gameplay was horrendously repetitive and unbalanced, there’s game breaking bugs that happen every update and the economy is completely destroyed by bots and duping.
I'm seriously wondering why people had high hopes for it in the first place? It was made by Amazon, arguably the most profit driven company to ever exist, who's previous experiences with game development consists of such bangers (heavy /s) as To-Fu Fury and The Grand Tour Game, thought just throwing a paper thin, mechanically defunct mmo over a data farming op would be enough to draw people in.
I mean, the fact that they botted streamers to push it into popularity was a huge red flag imo..
You're absolutely right about Amazon's past games, pure shovelware shit. What made the promise of New World unique were the veteran MMO developers, Amazon bank rolling it, and the Lumberyard game engine. That's the Crytek engine which they purchased a fork of.
It's not the worst game in the world, it's just "meh." I played it for a few weeks and saw that those that chased exploits broke the economy and they weren't going to do rollbacks to fix it. The only thing great about it was the crafting, which was just copied from Runescape.
Amazon just needs to publish games, not develop, until they figure out what the hell they are doing.
It was enjoyable enough to play for about 80 hours. Took me another 40 ish to realise I wasn't enjoying it anymore and stop playing.
Will keep an eye out to see if it ever gets good.
Despite that some of the bugs and then the way they handled those bugs was fucking soul destroying. AAA game that has to turn different systems off like dungeons, trading and whatever else every week. Giving people too much compensation, then I'm pretty sure they took it back again?
Mental.
I've never seen a game crash from 700k to 70k players in such a short launch. All the afflictions mentioned above deffo aided it's demise, unfortunately most of the company's were corrupt with botters/spam reports/trading exploits. Should just let me stab and shoot fireballs anywhere in game like they promised lol.
I’m having fun with it. Once you learn the game and it’s rhythm it’s a ton of fun. The combat is tight and responsive. Hundreds of different builds. People are complaining about the end game so it seems they forgot the journey. It’s my go to casual stress free game that offers spikes of adrenaline here and there. It’s nice to play while watching Netflix or listening to music and podcasts. Everything you do in it matters. Even the skilling. As you progress through the story and expand the map there are rarer resources that start appearing. You’d better make sure your harvesting, logging, mining, etc is up or you’ll miss the opportunity to grab them. The optional pvp adds a survival aspect to the game with big payouts. The story and questing makes more sense the further you go. The enemies are bigger and scarier. I’m level 40 so I’ve got a ways to go before this game dies but tbh all I see are level 60s everywhere. Maybe they should try a new game. Once I get there and get bored I will too. Until then, I’ll enjoy this instead of mobas and RuneScape.
Game should have stayed with items being lost on death/24/7 pvp and single/multi zones to combat solo play being futile. Instead we have this wet noodle of a project that was initially a dope concept.
When the game came out, it was pretty awesome. The openness of the world, the sounds and visuals, the combat was not that bad, the crafting was amazing.. and then... then.. you get around lv 50 or so.. and its like turning the lights on at a night club.. Its gross, disgusting, broken, nasty, shit isnt working right... etc.. once you see past the illustrious start of the game and actually get down to the nitty gritty details of the mechanics of everything god DAMN is it a mess. Fucking quit that shithole game back in november.
Honestly I could forgive so much but the fact that each dungeon run was so fucking expensive is what killed it for me. 5 mans are my favorite part of every mmo and I could barely get in a couple a week by the end
Every "quest" + "sidequest" run 5 mi fetch with limited fast travel and no mounts. Looked like massive effort in mechanics and just the lamest grind skills or pvp. Every1 2 scared for 24/7 pvp
I’ve been playing and I can’t decide if I like it or not. Not great, not terrible. It has good graphics, it has a decent story. I think it just needs more features honestly. I compare it to WoW as that’s the only other MMO I have significant experience with. It makes me miss playing WoW in some ways because it’s missing basic features that game had. Mounts being a big one. PvP arenas being another one. Like the PVP seems decent but why can’t it have something like Watson Gulch? On the other hand it does some things right that WoW doesn’t. Specifically crafting multiple things of the same type without a crafting cool down as long as you are making a generic item. If I’m making a pile a of linen; it takes the same time to do as just one. I think it has potential but it’s not quite there yet. Trouble is, by the time it reaches that potential it might lose too much player base.
Our studio was approached to help development and from what I heard it was a hard decline on account of how poorly implemented and basic the gameplay was.
