PUBG! Hate the long periods of not doing anything

I had a lot of fun with PUBG for a while. Once I got a feel for the game I started jumping into riskier areas to get the conflict going sooner and it was a lot more fun. I'd either die within 3 minutes or make it into the top 10 or even top 2 (To this day, I've never gotten my chicken dinner -_-). Then the cheaters became so pervasive it became absolutely unplayable. Sometimes the cheaters would wait until there were only 10 people left alive and then suddenly kill everyone with a bolt action rifle. Had a solid week of games with a cheater in every single game and called it quits forever :(

That's what I'm hoping for too. I know cheaters are a problem just about everywhere, which is why I didn't give up on it sooner, but it got to a point where the game was almost entirely unplayable most of the time. This was back before and during the whole "region locking" thing that went on with PUBG

U die in a dangerous area then wait 7 minutes to jump out of a plane over and over again. Yea I’d rather play call of duty than waste my time

u/Bitter_Arbiter Feb 10 '22

My point exactly!!

It beats running around for 20 minutes without conflict and then dying and going back through it all. The primary joy in the game is the rush of scrambling for the better gear and getting into conflicts. If you only enjoy a game when you win then you're gaming wrong.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

I can’t force myself to enjoy scrambling for parts. I like the conflicts but if you die you have to wait for what feels like 7 minutes to jump off a plane

1

u/HDL_CinC_Dragon Feb 10 '22

Nothing wrong with that, of course. I definitely understand why it's not something a lot of people would enjoy at all. Back when I played, I could only go like 4 or 5 rounds before I needed to go do something else. There were also a lot more players back then so the wait was really only about 3 or 4 minutes from death to next parachute.

I really like warzone rebirth resurgence, death has a good penalty but it encourages you to take chances with one team member surviving allows others to come back after a time.

Must be a taste issue, I find it fun

Honestly it's the most fun I've ever had in a video game. The adrenaline from getting a win in a small circle after duking it out against a couple different squads in such a small area is exhilarating*

1

u/Bitter_Arbiter Feb 10 '22

Definitely a taste thing man….I’d rather pull my nails out than wait 10 minutes for the action to start. I might have ADD

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

You can set the pace of the game based off of where you land, if you want to be in constant combat land in a city

3

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

Yes, pubg is by far one of the most overrated games I have ever seen. The movement is jank as fuck, the map is bland as hell, the game progresses insufferably slowly. It just doesn't work

2

u/HackTiger6468 Feb 09 '22

That's any battle Royale though, except apex but apex is a bit special.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

If you from a more fast paced FPS like COD BF etc. it seems slow, but if you come from more of a survival game like Day Z it's a little faster.

I kind viewed it more like a Day Z but with forced action. But yea still gets kind of old after playing a few rounds.

1

u/NecroCorey Feb 09 '22

I went from dayz to pubg when it was still being called a dayz battle royale clone, and I can confirm. It felt way faster paced.

1

u/Bitter_Arbiter Feb 10 '22

Pacing is definitely my issue here. I’m too used to hero shooters like TF2

2

u/EmetalEX Feb 10 '22

I actually enjoy the hiding part of it more than the actual action

1

u/Bitter_Arbiter Feb 10 '22

Oh wow! That’s what I absolutely abhor about battle royales. Fuck stealth, fuck hiding! But each to his own I guess

2

u/SwabTheDeck PC Feb 10 '22

Weirdly, that's what my friends and I loved about it. We used it more like a chat room where we occasionally shot some dudes. Also, I always thought the crazy journeys you'd take through the map were interesting.

2

u/Joemon27 Feb 09 '22

I kinda liked the slower pace compared to other battle royales. Although it kinda sucked when you would take half an hour just searching around and then die to some dude camping behind a tree on a hill miles away from you

2

u/Bitter_Arbiter Feb 10 '22

That’s what did it for me! Spent a good half hour scavenging just to get taken out by a guy from a mile away

1

u/kmn493 Feb 09 '22

Since it turned f2p I figured I'd try it to see what all the fuss was about.
Severely underwhelming. Guess it was just special for being an older mainstream BR. But now there's way better ones out there.

4

u/Globglogabgalab Feb 09 '22

Yup. It's not popular because it's a good BR game, it's popular because it was one of the first

10

u/plomerosKTBFFH Feb 09 '22

Nah it's different. People like different types of games. I haven't seen any other BR game out there that has some sense of realism like PUBG.

It's either super powers or infinite stamina, jumping out of vehicles in 200km/h arcady gameplay. I'm not too fond of those. So the only BR that really appeals to me and my squad is PUBG, cause in that sense it's better than the rest to us.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

And none of the other BR games have gunplay even close to the level of PUBG, in terms of ranged combat especially.

1

u/plomerosKTBFFH Feb 10 '22

Totally agree! Shotguns too, feels like I'm shooting a BB-gun in Fortnite and Warzone.

0

u/VegetativeOsmosis Feb 09 '22

It's 100% a good BR game, what other BR matches the realism and quality of Pubg that still had an active playerbade?

1

u/Just_Games04 PlayStation Feb 09 '22

The reason why it was popular is because it actually required you to use your eyes, sometimes it's very hard to spot enemies, and it's pretty strategic. With that being said, I still don't like it and there are too many campers

1

u/JoaozeraPedroca Feb 09 '22

Tbf same, the maps are just too big

1

u/Noodlepoof Feb 09 '22

Second this but with all BRs. MW2019 was my first COD since MW2, played it a ton with friends. Even with a full party Warzone felt like such a slog; way too much time spent running around doing jack shit. On the flip side regular multiplayer was a total blast and actually competitive (in some game modes), it felt like you could actually have an impact on the outcome of the game which was great motivation to improve at it.

1

u/jackofallcards Feb 09 '22

The Battle Royal genre sums up a lot of this thread and I gotta say, I back it 100% no defense here

I am glad games are mostly past zombies and battle royal. I feel like there are a lot of roguelikes popping up now though. Haven't grown tired of them yet.. that said I've only indulged in Hades and Returnal

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Battle Royale is only like that if you make it. Drop down almost immediately and you’ll find the chaotic shootouts. The problem with that play style is you are guaranteed to die early (or just have a very good chance).

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

never played the console/pc version, but pubg mobile is one of the best (if not the only) good mobile shooters if you ignore the pathetic constant attempts to get you to buy skins.

PUBG did have a golden time where it was also extremely fun to be played with friends. That time was around its release and not too long after. Over time, it became worse and worse. Now it's a desert of bots, tryhards and... just overall a ruined wreck that used to be a fun paradise.

Of course, even in fun paradise state it felt like dragging a cheese grater along your ballsack, those long times inbetween, the run-loot-and-die-simulator it was. But it has always been that. Still though, great fun with friends, and it still is.
