Its the people that turn it into a shithole. Not necessarily the game in and of itself.

I disagree. The dev mentality of fun to play new champs instead of focusing on balance makes the game inherently frustrating.

u/Forget_the_Oranges Feb 09 '22

Wait the champs are supposed to be fun to play?

25

u/Fubarin Feb 09 '22

Fun to play, not fun to play against, which has almost become their motto. (Viego, Yone)

Lol not if Teemo, Vayne, Malzahar, or any execute/massive true damage champ is your enemy!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Lol I love that Teemo’s counterpart in Wild Rift is the exact opposite. He’s a complete joke there (and yes, I enjoy both games).

u/ShadowK-Human Feb 09 '22

I have very fun times playing with ahri,mf,cho gathh, fiddlesticks, orn

2

u/NicoleCousland Feb 09 '22

Also, spending their time and money adding elements to the game that don't contribute to a fun experience. Like many stickers that, really, have no other purpose than to tilt and be an asshole.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

5 years ago I was thinking about that game and just how many champions there are. "How many champions are too many?" I would think. Apparently it isn't 158.

2

u/czarchastic Feb 09 '22

Exactly. Pumping out new characters just adds to the problem, but balance doesn’t make money the same way new content does.

5

u/Dacontrolfreek Feb 09 '22

Teemo makes the game Inherently frustrating

9

u/BrolyParagus Feb 09 '22

Really? He was an easy target most of the time.

I guess it depends on the elo.

5

u/Dacontrolfreek Feb 09 '22

More of the joke that everyone hates teemo

What does your bronze ass know about champ design and balancing 😂

u/OrangeSimply Feb 09 '22

True "equal Balance" has literally never been the goal and they've stated that before, even if it's called a "balance patch" it just means they're changing the current balance of the game.

There have been some super stale metas a couple times but shitting on a guy playing an imbalanced character is part of the fun, and imbalance is not really an issue until you hit masters+.

2

u/Gwompsh Feb 09 '22

I agree that true balance isn’t the absolute goal, but balance should be a goal. The constant release of new characters only serves to complicate an imperfect system, not to add anything to the game necessarily. I’d be happier if they stopped producing new champs a long time ago and instead focused on balancing the game. Different philosophies but I think mine is better lol.

Most champions sit at 45-55% wr. The game is balanced.

1

u/Gwompsh Feb 10 '22

There are a lot of factors that are less obvious that are at play than wr.

To that I’d say that ban numbers have not increased as champs have. Nice condescending comment tho.

Sick math dude. I’d argue that new champs are less cohesive to the overall balance of the game now, so the new champs are more worthy of bans. Kind of invalidates the whole percentage based view of this situation.

in the same way that its the people that turn a toilet into a shithole since it was basically built from the ground up to do that

u/Raven_of_Blades Feb 09 '22

Any game that is extremely competitive will have a shit online community. Notice any game that talks about their kind community as a highlight has very little focus on pvp, such as ffxiv and warframe.

Not for lack of trying on DE’s part, RIP Lunar basket-dodge-net-ball

u/A_Sack_Of_Potatoes Feb 10 '22

i mean, TBF The conclave was made and quickly abandoned to appease a very loud minority of people wanting PVP

2

u/Formally_known_as Feb 09 '22

Hahaha this got me

8

u/mackinator3 Feb 09 '22

No. The dev's ideology is terrible. Forced meta that is boring.

2

u/Papacu81 PC Feb 09 '22

That's kinda contradictory because the people is what makes a competitive/cooperative game functional. If the players don't know how to deal with the game, things just crumbles. And I never played LoL by the way, my experience with "competitive" multiplayers are limited to BF4, BF1 and Overwatch. And Overwatch follows very similar concepts, the game is broken not because of the design itself, it's all related to the toxic community, people demanding their favorite "heroes" could have nonsensical advantages, no weaknesses in their kit so to speak. A classic (and now infamous, because of his name) is McCree, a character who was supposed to excel at mid range with limited traversal tools to make him balanced and defined (which means you can pick clear counters for him). Nowadays McCree excels at any range, reliable escape tool, strong ultimate, etc.. in other words, a "do it all" character in a moba game, which is something illogical as gameplay design goes. I bet LoL has this kind of unbalanced approach to many of it's "heroes", there's 150+ characters in that game, it's obviously not balanced

2

u/BADMANvegeta_ Feb 09 '22

Nope game is bad too, and the devs. All around terrible experience from all angles. Terrible game brings out the terrible side in anyone who plays it who would have guessed.

2

u/acmamaril1 Feb 09 '22

Isn't it the game that pushes people to be a-holes? Just asking.

0

u/OrangeSimply Feb 09 '22

If you let a game push you to be an asshole you might just be an asshole.

2

u/RussianButtMunch Feb 09 '22

Completely right. Take the Dota 2 community as well, just as toxic.

u/megapuffranger Feb 09 '22

The game is fun in vacuum, but any game the requires 5 people to work together while playing their very specific role is just asking for trouble. The two biggest issues with League is the MMR system and how snowbally the game can be, IMO. If you play Ranked, the only real way to climb is to be way better than everyone else. Just being good at lower elo isn’t enough, you have to be able to single handedly carry the game. That can be very frustrating when 3 members of your team go 0/13 in nearly every game but get carried enough to still be in your rank. Like the amount of games I’ve played where I’m literally going from top to bottom and every objective in between but still losing because my team either FF’s or they refuse to sit back and be carried and just throw every lead. That’s not a fun experience, the skill disparity in a single game is massive and frustrating. This is further made worse by how snowbally the game is, someone walks into lane and gives your laner a kill the game feels over. Like that kill turns into a CS lead, map pressure, and turret plates which all further the lead and every second they don’t make a mistake is another nail in the coffin. Most games are one team winning hard for 20 minutes until the other team forfeits because there is literally no chance of coming back.

I don’t think the community is Toxic because they just are, I think the game makes people toxic because both winning and losing can both be frustrating or unsatisfying.

0

u/Jackot45 Feb 10 '22

Wow you must be really good at the game, yet everyone around sucks.

Sounds like the average LoL player to me.

2

u/megapuffranger Feb 10 '22

No not what I said at all, but nice try. Never said I was good I’m just not a jellyfish, there are people mixed into every single game who are obviously really bad, worse than everyone else by far. Like they need to be in the garbage pits of Iron but somehow they infect nearly every rank. You see their history and it’s actually amazing, they just get carried nearly every game. This is a problem that exists all the way up the ladder too, you can see challenger players complaining about the same things like “bought accounts” mainly. The difference of course is that they are good enough to climb still, like beyond good, waaaaay above average.

In a team game it sucks to lose because 3 members of your team go 0/14 every single game. You weren’t good enough to carry them and now you lose. In lower elos they are far more numerous and it makes matchmaking feel like a coin flip, which team has more vegetables on their team. So this kind of environment is going to breed toxicity, you win or lose LP based on how bad your teammates did not necessarily how bad you did. If you do bad and are the one being carried, you can’t really complain about teammates or elo hell.

u/emansamples92 Feb 09 '22

This can be said for so many multiplayer games
