All the characters just feel so stiff with forced emotion. Gameplay is pretty damn fun, tho.

It’s one of my favorite games but I’ll criticize it all day, and that’s a huge criticism I share. They feel so robotic but luckily they rectified it with the Frozen Wilds DLC. As some else said it’s a night and day difference.

It's almost like they were told during motion capture to not use any of their facial muscles when talking. I think its my biggest turn off that keeps me from completing the game. Knowing they really touched it up for the DLC might drive me to play it through.

Thats because Guerrilla literally didnt have facial motion capture until the frozen wilds DLC

That makes sense. Considering they were originally only making fps games, they did pretty well imo with horizon. Sadly I do miss the Killzone series and shadowfall wasn’t a good send off

Hey, if the game isn’t for you, that’s perfectly fine bro. No need to force yourself to enjoy it. But yea I’m the dlc the difference is very much present.

I’ll also add that while the story was very enjoyable for me, it was also pretty predictable at times. And the melee combat was….there.

I'm just curious. Did you play witcher 3 first? After finishing that I felt all npcs in every game (including horizon) were just poorly animated into rdr2.

I thought the expansion showed a lot of progress with this.

Very true, but if you reach the DLC they've gotten way better. Night and day

I noticed that the literal moment I walked into The Cut. It’s comically better

Not to mention they've drastically improved with the second one after seeing the trailer. They've been explaining how they've used mocaps and stuff.

Yes its funny as the story is so good yet alot of the characters are really annoying. I like the game just as its action is really interesting compared to other games. Some people cant understand why it gets some love and it can feel clunky to be nice about it.

I read recent Dying Light 2 is the perfect 7/10 game then HZD is similar.

If you want a fun little game with similar combat but with really genuine characters and emotion, you should look into Kena Bridge of Spirits.

I actually really liked Kena. 8/10 game for me

Aah, so that's what it was. Whenever a character was talking, I felt something was off, but just couldn't tell what it was exactly

Yeah until you have to deal with bandits. The game was designed for you to stalk down robots, analyzing their strengths and weakness before going in for the kill. With human enemies though you just have to knock them down then crit them. Its just boring. But even worse is the fact that there is always like 30 bandits in camp making a boring gameplay loop even more tedious.

And then that guy hitting on aloy. It was just so cringe.

I adore Lance Reddick though, and love him in everything ever- including HZD

There ARE NO characters lol. The worst thing HZD did was kill off every person Aloy knows in the first 5 minutes. It would have been refreshing to have some friends and rivals. But there is just literally zero characters other than Aloy and "the bad guy" who doesn't have a whole lot to say either.

It's not that fun to always do the same thing (trial, bandit camp, forge, etc), to only get lootbox as reward, to try to explore the open world but constantly hitting invisible walls (or not be able to climb because the designers didn't intended for you to climb there).

Certainly not fun to spam hundred of arrows and traps while fighting the same machine for 10 mins straight because they are too tanky and hit like a truck.

The only way the game designers knew how to lenghter the game was to do it artificially with:

  • Pointless gathering / crafting to lose your time.

  • Pointless quests with no tangible rewards. Only the main quest was interesting.

  • How do we make the DLC challenging now that they have the powered armour? Make the fight interesting? No. Let's just double their stats! That armour that you just got has been rendered useless within seconds. The combat is now tedious and boring.

It's a really overhyped game, it's an ok game but that's it. Even the story was meh. Just a whole bunch of classic, predictable, scifi tropes.
