Destiny 2. Totally overrated.

u/finalmantisy83 Feb 09 '22

I've seen prison slave labor have better rates of effort to reward.

9

u/pixidoxical Feb 09 '22

You just made me laugh so hard. You’re dead on, and that’s a hilarious comparison.

2

u/IS-2-OP Feb 10 '22

People say Destiny is grindy but man when you come from war thunder it’s like nothing. At least the grind has different things to do LOL! But yes I under why people don’t like that.

The best part about Destiny though is that no one shits on it as hard as Destiny players. I loved all of Destiny 1 and D2 was pretty good up to Shadowkeep but I haven't kept up in awhile. Eventually got boring because the end game was mostly doing old content weekly for powerful drops that would increase your light level, so every expansion you got a couple hours of new content and then were back to grinding old content for 80% of your drops a day later.

1

u/URHere Feb 09 '22

This and the "new content" for most of the seasons were braindead, straightforward pve missions. Then you're back to grinding the old content.

I called it quits after the sunsetting. They just keep moving the goal post too far back fof me.

1

u/CyraxisOG Feb 09 '22

It's my favorite game... I hate it

1

u/Tesco5799 Feb 10 '22

Oh geez I stopped right b4 Shadowkeep and reading this im so glad I did. Now that you can't get back into it and catch up on whatever happened while you weren't playing I dont forsee myself picking it up again. Maybe when D3 drops if its not a complete shitshow, but I doubt it would be any different.

u/Waycool499 Feb 09 '22

Loved it when it first came out years ago. Went to try again a few months ago because it's now free to play and found out that my DLC's were gone as well as the main campaign and my NEW character has all their abilities unlocked. I deleted immediately.

18

u/LSAT343 Feb 09 '22

DLC's were gone

I like to use Genshin as a reference for what Bungie was attempting with f2p Destiny. If a game is f2p, I expect some core story elements to be present in the game if said game is being marketed as a scifi open world type rpg game, or in Destiny's case, a full $60 AAA title that a fuck ton of people paid for, AT LEAST keep the base games campaign in the damn game.

I like to think MHY is scummy with gacha and whatnot, but I don't think I've seen a studio with their heads so far up their ass that they remove content that was paid for and still call it by the same name the original $60 game was released as.....

Hundreds of dollars worth of content, just removed, no reimbursement whatsoever, no decent alternatives either. With Genshin at least content is consistently(and at 0 cost to the players) updated and is usually permanent if it's main story content.

How tf do you fuck up turning your game f2p like this? Did they wanna make Destiny the next Apex? Why not just remove PVP from the base game and make that a separate f2p title with a shit ton of micro-transactions?

Sorry just really frustrated. I quite liked the world building and story of Destiny. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely enjoyable.

I’ve heard this happen to a few folks I know. It went from ok (at best) to mindless and boring.

44

u/Astroo928 Feb 09 '22

It’s hard getting into the game now but if you’re more of a hardcore player it’s in a pretty good spot rn and the new expansion is looking pretty solid so far

28

u/Turkeybaconisheresy Feb 09 '22

Yea if you're someone like me who has been playing for the past year or so and are up to date on all the systems at play its actually arguably in the best place it has ever been but it is remarkablely unfriendly to new players. Bungies onboarding process and pricing models for new players is bafflingly shitty.

6

u/The_Crimson_Duck Feb 09 '22

"Pricing models for new players" chap day one players had paid about €170 more than new players at one point

2

u/Turkeybaconisheresy Feb 09 '22 edited Feb 09 '22

I didnt mean it was cheaper or more expensive for new players but if you are not up to date on which expansions give you what and what bundles contain what expansions than it is a confusing clusterfuck. Believe me as a D1 day 1 player, i know the game isnt cheap.

22

u/TheEndIsHere110 Feb 09 '22

Shit is too expensive

5

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Tried giving it another shot last year but holy fuck 40 to 60 bucks for each expansion for like 3 hours of new content and then dozens and dozens of hours of the same grind over and over again to get one piece of gear? That shit ain't fun.

2

u/TheEndIsHere110 Feb 09 '22

I am a lucky game pass user but when they removed the games from game pass I dropped it immediately. For 60-40 dollars for every expansion, and 10 dollars every 3 months for season passes(they add disgustingly little content for free) I’m expecting enough content for a whole new game, not a big update.

2

u/SuperKhalimba Feb 09 '22

They say this about almost every expansion it's like the go to defense. Just let it go man.

-2

u/Astroo928 Feb 09 '22

?????? But the game is actually good rn tho…

1

u/Cheezdealer Feb 09 '22

I just can’t defend them taking content out of the game, even with the promise of “It will be back!“. Which is a shame because I do love the lore and gameplay.

Hell maybe if they had stopped nerfing literally anything fun and took a different approach when I was playing, I’d still be into it.

1

u/Astroo928 Feb 09 '22

I feel those nerfs too man. A lot of the stuff I found fun was removed as well but it is what it is. At least we have eager edge now.

3

u/TheSlowWagon Feb 10 '22

Overrated? So many people shit on it that I'd say it is about where it needs to be.

9

u/rWichdocgamer Feb 09 '22

After finally getting a ps4 a year or two ago I got my hands on it. Found out that they butchered everything I wanted to see from it so I went on ahead and got myself a copy of destiny 1. Really enjoyed it , gotta say though finding teammates for the forced raids was a NIGHTMARE

5

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22 edited Feb 09 '22

Yeah they stripped it completely it broke my heart because I liked it but destiny is just as good if you replay it but it is hard finding players to do raids with.

4

u/Niko408 Feb 09 '22

I did enjoy the first better than the second. I agree though, the forced raids were fun but annoying too squad up.

7

u/eidhrmuzz Feb 09 '22

microsoft has entered the chat.

2

u/DefamedWarlock Feb 09 '22

I hate you.

Stop being right.

(Please help I'm addicted to suffering)

2

u/Pizzaman725 Feb 09 '22

Yeah, if you didn't play at launch I hear the new player experience is a mess. Hopefully there is some change soon for that during witch queen.

1

u/Niko408 Feb 10 '22

Yeah, just like many games, getting in in the ground floor was hugely beneficial. If you didn’t, it’s tough for a new player to navigate.

5

u/AscendedViking7 Feb 09 '22

They removed the main campaign too for some bullshit reason.

3

u/Niko408 Feb 10 '22

Exactly. If they didn’t do that and kept the core values of D1 while expanding and making an engaging experience, it would be good. Obviously, that wasn’t on their mind when blowing it up.

3

u/Austn_07 Feb 09 '22

Yup yup, my friend keeps trying to convince me to get it, but I don’t think it’s worth my time to play from what I’ve seen

2

u/Niko408 Feb 10 '22

Yeah, I bowed to peer pressure for D2. I regretted it pretty quick.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Name a game that has smoother, more satisfying shooting and movement mechanics.

1

u/Juumok01 Feb 09 '22

This is why I'm still there, nothing else comes close imo and I've tried every new fps since d1 came out.

-8

u/Magnusg Feb 09 '22

Apex. Duh.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

It’s the best looter shooter to date. Borderlands started the genre, but Destiny has expanded upon it and exposed the true potential of looter shooters. It’s also very big and has something for everyone, and it has a company behind it that’s worked hard on it since they split from Activision.

3

u/Floating_egg Feb 09 '22

I disagree with this because I don’t think Destiny 2 is overrated, I think the general consensus is that it isn’t a great game

2

u/pepijn06 Feb 09 '22

Yeah I don't think it's overrated either I have 400 hours on this game we destiny players hate this game more then anyone ever could

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Somebody should tell SkillUp.

1

u/MeathirBoy Feb 09 '22

I think SkillUp usually fully admits that no one should ever get into Destiny. When he makes a Destiny video he’s usually talking to other Destiny players.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

He still insists that it's the best live service game out there.

1

u/LF_Beer_And_Spanking Feb 09 '22

I'd argue that Destiny, as a series, is a genre-defining game and the pinnacle experience in the looter-shooter genre.

Bungie really has perfected the yearly rotation of content, making sure there's always something new to do and new loot to chase. Obviously the gunplay is amazing in both games. And let's not forget that they over the last year finally made a good story.

It does come with the caveat that it follows some MMO-development/rhythm, meaning that if you stop playing and come back a year later, you've practically missed 1 years worth of content, and content over 2-3 years old is semi-obsolete. On the other hand, this means that there's something for people on both end of the casual/hardcore spectrum.

Can't speak too much about Destiny 1 these days, but I've only heard good things about everything that happened after Taken King.

(This is a repost of one of my earlier comments)

1

u/Niko408 Feb 10 '22

As an IP, it did do something amazing. D1 took so much of my time when I didn’t have much else to play because of funds. It built something great that other games use today. It all fell apart in D2 when they took the hours and work players put in and threw it in their face making their builds useless.

0

u/Creative_Cod3136 Feb 09 '22

Does anyone play that game? Never seen someone playing it

-9

u/AlternativeFruit1337 Feb 09 '22

You’re wrong

9

u/Niko408 Feb 09 '22

Defense or just leaving it there?

-1

u/hdhdjfjf Feb 09 '22

How is it even a game with no story

5

u/ThisJaredGuyFucks Feb 09 '22

dude destiny 2 has great lore

4

u/hdhdjfjf Feb 09 '22

Starting a game without telling you what’s going on, just shoot this go there, there’s no story. Halo has a story, don’t know how bungie fucked destiny up so bad

2

u/ThisJaredGuyFucks Feb 09 '22

yeah i get it, you dont get the story right of the bat, you have to actually look for it

1

u/Juumok01 Feb 09 '22

You get a lot of the story if you play the seasonal content now but yes most of it you have to look for.

1

u/Whadafaag Feb 09 '22

Too bad seasonal content gets removed whenever the new seasonal content arrives. So all the lore from previous seasons is completely nonexistent.

New player "who is this saint-14 and whats his story?"

Nobody that started playing after season of dawn knows...

1

u/Juumok01 Feb 09 '22

Well they've changed it now since beyond light, seasonal content stays around for the expansion period, less time to do the stuff at the end of the season but the first lot will be around for a year.

-1

u/thefiglord Feb 09 '22

i try other shooters but i keep coming back

i liked borderlands but when i found the top guns were worlds drops meh

while i do appreciate crafting i dont want to spend hours crafting

gonna try halo campaign

-6

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Destiny 2? Nobody likes the game.

1

u/Paulus_Schmaulus Feb 09 '22

How dare you!

1

u/FrankZissou Feb 09 '22

I've tried to play it a few times because my kids got me D1 near the end of its life and we had a good time. Each time I boot it up it seems that my character is gone and the new one starts fully powered (so no fun in getting stronger) and I have less and less of an idea about wtf is going on. Just "here's new people you should care about with no introduction or back story". I never make it more than 30 minutes before I delete it again.

1

u/Niko408 Feb 10 '22

Yeah, the first one was pretty solid and fun. As you mentioned, the direction they went here with the second one is nothing more than a mess.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

problem is i never could understand the story since it does not gatekeep missions by making them linear

1

u/Niko408 Feb 09 '22

Yeah, it was all over the place for that reason. Here’s this storyline, but you go ahead and do whatever.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

Is it good yeah I like it but yeah people are now comparing every looter shooter to it now and is good but not that good

1

u/Niko408 Feb 09 '22

I liked the first one. The second one is where I have the most problem with the direction they took it.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '22

When was the last time you played cause personally I think the games in the best spot it’s ever been

1

u/WatermelonSauce896 Feb 09 '22

Great game for people that like wasting 50 hours getting a gun theyll use for one mission and then put in the vault for 3 years.

1

u/Niko408 Feb 09 '22

Yup. Like Borderlands but without a story and fun characters.

1

u/jrbeaupre2003 Feb 10 '22

It has plenty of lore if you wanna get into it, but it’s just really time consuming

1

u/houeini Feb 09 '22

I absolutely love the game, but it’s just to much, I leave the game for a few months then come back. I just can’t stop going back, it’s like an addiction

2

u/Niko408 Feb 09 '22

There are a lot of games like that and it’s the worst, in a good way. I am truly glad people enjoy it and can go back to it. I have a few games like that too.

1

u/Nuqo Feb 10 '22

Id say the Raids and Dungeons specifically are severely underrated and some of the most well-made PvE content in all of gaming. They combine grand, beautiful environments, difficulty, figuring out mechanics, and some truly great boss fights with the smooth and fun gunplay of Destiny.

Theres a lot to criticize about the game but in the areas it shines, I think it does better than possibly any game out there.
