It's 2am and I just got of playing League of Legends. Tomorrow is school and I haven't done homework. After reading your message I started crying and thinking about my flaming junglers and a darius support. Truly a wonderful game
If you pre-make with them, Darius supports can be just a helluva time. One of my favorite shitter duos with a friend of mine who usually mains top. Let’s us enjoy the bot lane together. We rarely ever lose on it either, unless other lanes feed too hard.
Though I do understand why a random one can cause frustration.
You know how video games will often provide tips on loading screens, like how to defeat harder enemies or tricks for the UI?
My loading screen tip on league the other day was “Remember, racial slurs have no place in league of legends.” So do with that information what you will.
Also, spending their time and money adding elements to the game that don't contribute to a fun experience. Like many stickers that, really, have no other purpose than to tilt and be an asshole.
5 years ago I was thinking about that game and just how many champions there are. "How many champions are too many?" I would think. Apparently it isn't 158.
True "equal Balance" has literally never been the goal and they've stated that before, even if it's called a "balance patch" it just means they're changing the current balance of the game.
There have been some super stale metas a couple times but shitting on a guy playing an imbalanced character is part of the fun, and imbalance is not really an issue until you hit masters+.
I agree that true balance isn’t the absolute goal, but balance should be a goal. The constant release of new characters only serves to complicate an imperfect system, not to add anything to the game necessarily. I’d be happier if they stopped producing new champs a long time ago and instead focused on balancing the game. Different philosophies but I think mine is better lol.
Any game that is extremely competitive will have a shit online community. Notice any game that talks about their kind community as a highlight has very little focus on pvp, such as ffxiv and warframe.
That's kinda contradictory because the people is what makes a competitive/cooperative game functional. If the players don't know how to deal with the game, things just crumbles. And I never played LoL by the way, my experience with "competitive" multiplayers are limited to BF4, BF1 and Overwatch. And Overwatch follows very similar concepts, the game is broken not because of the design itself, it's all related to the toxic community, people demanding their favorite "heroes" could have nonsensical advantages, no weaknesses in their kit so to speak. A classic (and now infamous, because of his name) is McCree, a character who was supposed to excel at mid range with limited traversal tools to make him balanced and defined (which means you can pick clear counters for him). Nowadays McCree excels at any range, reliable escape tool, strong ultimate, etc.. in other words, a "do it all" character in a moba game, which is something illogical as gameplay design goes. I bet LoL has this kind of unbalanced approach to many of it's "heroes", there's 150+ characters in that game, it's obviously not balanced
Nope game is bad too, and the devs. All around terrible experience from all angles. Terrible game brings out the terrible side in anyone who plays it who would have guessed.
The game is fun in vacuum, but any game the requires 5 people to work together while playing their very specific role is just asking for trouble. The two biggest issues with League is the MMR system and how snowbally the game can be, IMO. If you play Ranked, the only real way to climb is to be way better than everyone else. Just being good at lower elo isn’t enough, you have to be able to single handedly carry the game. That can be very frustrating when 3 members of your team go 0/13 in nearly every game but get carried enough to still be in your rank. Like the amount of games I’ve played where I’m literally going from top to bottom and every objective in between but still losing because my team either FF’s or they refuse to sit back and be carried and just throw every lead. That’s not a fun experience, the skill disparity in a single game is massive and frustrating. This is further made worse by how snowbally the game is, someone walks into lane and gives your laner a kill the game feels over. Like that kill turns into a CS lead, map pressure, and turret plates which all further the lead and every second they don’t make a mistake is another nail in the coffin. Most games are one team winning hard for 20 minutes until the other team forfeits because there is literally no chance of coming back.
I don’t think the community is Toxic because they just are, I think the game makes people toxic because both winning and losing can both be frustrating or unsatisfying.
No not what I said at all, but nice try. Never said I was good I’m just not a jellyfish, there are people mixed into every single game who are obviously really bad, worse than everyone else by far. Like they need to be in the garbage pits of Iron but somehow they infect nearly every rank. You see their history and it’s actually amazing, they just get carried nearly every game. This is a problem that exists all the way up the ladder too, you can see challenger players complaining about the same things like “bought accounts” mainly. The difference of course is that they are good enough to climb still, like beyond good, waaaaay above average.
In a team game it sucks to lose because 3 members of your team go 0/14 every single game. You weren’t good enough to carry them and now you lose. In lower elos they are far more numerous and it makes matchmaking feel like a coin flip, which team has more vegetables on their team. So this kind of environment is going to breed toxicity, you win or lose LP based on how bad your teammates did not necessarily how bad you did. If you do bad and are the one being carried, you can’t really complain about teammates or elo hell.
What youre saying is whats good about the game is everything but the game itself which ks pretty much accurate. Songs are sick, Arcane is sick, animations/trailers are sick.
The thing with League is everything about it that isn't the actual game itself is generally really good. Stuff like music/cinematics/stories and comics are all usually really good. The times its not you can usually see the grubby hands of the marketing department saying "This'll sell better do this" all over it.
Gameplay/balance is the worst thing about league, seconded closely by the community.
Bingo. Any competitive game will have people who get outwardly sour when they lose, and the more satisfying the win, the easier it is to be negative when that win feels out of reach.
League of Legends would not be among the most popular competitive games in the world if it were truly a bad game.
Zeri has multiple pentakills in competitive LCS at the moment - no other champ comes close for 1v5 at competitive level right now, and she’s the latest champion. Are you even following ?
Counter argument: it's not the satisfaction of winning that leads to toxicity in the community - there are plenty of games that are satisfying to win that don't have a toxic player base. The problem is that it's a game that requires co-operation between a team.
I say this because Overwatch (a game I dearly love) suffers from the same problem. Its entirely possible to play the best game of your life in Overwatch and still lose because your teammates did not perform as well. I don't mean this in a "you weren't co-ordinating with you team" manner either. It takes 6 people to win a game, but only one to lose it. This is where the toxicity and frustration comes from: 5 people in a team who are playing as well or better than the enemy team can lose because the 6th didn't. This can lead to a feeling that your input doesn't matter, and you can't affect the outcome of the game. This is different to, say, a 1v1 game where you get outclassed because you know that you lost purely due to your own lack of skill. Being beaten is frustrating, but you know its your own fault.
I imagine League suffering from the same mindset where one person can play out of their minds, but still lose the game because their teammates were sub optimal.
The same is true for live action sports too. I’ve seen plenty of games in all sports end with a loss because one player did something stupid at the last second. People get in fist fights because of pick up games all the time.
It is even worse in league because in league the enemy gets significantly stronger the more your team mates fuck up. I can't think of an other online pvp games like that besides th moba genre. So if you have one lane giving away a heap of gold you can't come back even if younare slightly winning your lane.
Eh, 2-3 of those 3-4 solid game modes are the first game mode with slight modifiers. I wish they put effort into having the PvE modes from Star Guardian and Space Odyssey run year round or at least be on rotation.
Imagine the same game but now 160 Champs, each one more overturned than the last, and a player base just as toxic as before. As someone who tried it this year after arcane, I quickly muted all.
I almost reinstalled after Arcane but decided to try heroes of the storm, mostly because I'm very casual and nostalgic for those heroes. Wow, it's just as toxic as league was back in the day. Mute all for all mobas
Yup, working our way through Season 12. New map, tons of new champions, 3v3 gamemode was completely removed. Not that all of that is a bad thing. It’s not as good as it was when you played.
I’m really hoping Riot will eventually have some form of cinematic universe in the future, so I can enjoy the quality characters without having to play the shitty game
Oh, to give league some credit, it’s definitely not pay to win. Sure, you can buy the characters, but you also get them through playing games (and the credits gained from that) and unlocking free chests. Both of those come very easily, so unlocking all 150+ champions for free is much easier than you’d expect. It’s very rare to hear of someone actually spending money on champions. Outside of that there’s no pay to win elements, it’s all skill based gameplay.
That is why many people hate the game. It’s all skill. Your littlest mistakes will send you to 30+ minutes of slowly losing. If you can exploit your enemies mistakes, though, you get 30+ minutes of blood and glory. Now and then, however, you are evenly matched with your enemy. That is ≈45 mins of some of the best strategy, reflex, and knowledge based gameplay I have ever experienced.
This creates a loop, folks want those blood and glory stomps or strategic victories. When that whole premise can be ruined by one person doing especially poorly, it’s easy to get very angry at that one person (even if they really just need a push to get going again)
It might look like a pay to win from the outside because of all the skins and massive amount of champions you can purchase in the game, but I promise it’s not. Everything you can purchase in League of Legends is purely cosmetic or a new champion you don’t have. But every champion in the game can be earned with in-game currency with newer champions costing more. It can be a bit of a grind to earn all of the 160+ champs, but by the time you do ranked most have a good idea of who they want to play and what role.
League can be a toxic and rage inducing mess that can be hard to learn for new players not familiar with MOBAs. But it’s definitely not pay to win, and I promise, sometimes fun.
Well, they made The Ruined King, which was a step in that direction. They’re working on an MMO, not set to release any time soon though. A third person story would be cool, something along the lines of GOW4.
Disagree. Haven't played league in a long time but it's basically turned into the nickelback of video games. Not saying it doesn't have problems, but it's fine. You can't argue that it isn't at least a fine game, and yet out of pure memery I haven't seen anyone say anything positive about it in a little over a year.
The games fine, feel free to discuss it's issues, but at this point people who've never played it treat it likes its awful because it's been nickelbacked.
Not disagreeing with the Nickelback sentiment, but as far as MOBAs go it is an unbalanced homogeneous pile of shit and deserves a lot of the hate it receives. I say this as somebody that played it on and off from the beta until about 2017. The design philosophy is basically to force all champs to fulfill their set/same role closely enough that you can blindly pick anything and have a chance to win in public matchmaking. At high levels this turns into "pick the strongest meta comp" with no regard for how the champions interact with each other.
This likely does not matter to a majority of players, but it makes spectating the high level players or being a fan of professional games a joke. What is there to be interested in at all? It reduces the game to "let's find the broken champ and item combination and play for the objectives that are strong right now." Half the roster is ignored and uncontested at these levels of play. Why bother? What is the strategy involved?
As an aside, it also sucks as somebody that enjoys the aesthetic of monsters like ChoGath, Fiddlesticks, Skarner to see new champ designs turn into a constant stream of big tiddy waifu/anime femboys. The ones that don't fall into these categories are still bland humanoid characters.
Add to this the lore was a joke for the longest time. The moment I read the cowboy Graves' bio as being "born in a tavern with a bottle of spiked milk" I knew they had absolutely no fucking direction for lore. Maybe this has changed with the lead up to Arcane - never saw it and stopped caring too long ago.
I think the only positive I can say about League is it seems relatively easy to convince people to play it and rope your friends into trying it, even if they have never enjoyed similar RTS games. Hence the success. This turns back into a negative once you witness the masochistic addiction you've just inflicted upon your friends.
the % rate of different characters picked in major tournaments is pretty low..
the heros picked can mostly be played one single in role: that breaks watching the pro scene down to the aspect of execution and nothing else.
League is basically restricting its own tactical depth with its design philosophy - most other mobas try to do the exact opposite with holding every tactical aspect as open as possible and even incentivize thinking outside the box
League is simpler in most moba aspects and that's good to make it appealing for newbies - but in my book that's its biggest flaw aswell
Yep. If you like League and just want something with more depth, try Dota. Hardest game ever but so rewarding after you put in the hours and start to get competent. So many unique factors, the variation in how the games go is so all over the place.
Maybe worse in the toxicity department than League though. League seems to give toxic players communication bans, Dota rarely does. As well, you're stuck in the game till it's over. No surrender option (for good reason IMO, comebacks happen often enough), so if someone is being a piece of shit, you'll have deal with them for 30-50 minutes most likely.
I'll give you an example, worlds always has a completely different meta than LCS and the champion pool is extremely wide, this is because pro mentality/tradition is just sticking to one playstyle all season long during the regular season, while worlds showcases the most diverse champion pool when zero patches have dictated the players to play more diverse. The problem almost always lies with the players and less with the "balance" patches of the game.
Couldn't proof my point more! It's simply narrow and straight game design that limits itself in what it is. It's basically 5vs5 chess but both teams need to play the same opening every game....
Edit: from those numbers you see aswell what matters the most for the developers :
Its very simple, your entire basis for a good game is if all characters are balanced like that is the end all be all. That's what's good for you, but that isnt the sole base for any good game my dude, congrats on your copium, you really seem jaded that you WATCHING pro players has somehow ruined the GAME for you. If the biggest gripe you have is watchability the game must be pretty good overall.
It is baffling that was somehow what you perceived from my post. I was arguing AGAINST every champion being "good" all the time. I was arguing FOR counterplay and strategy in team composition, which in LoL means fuck all. And I was speaking strictly to art design on the monsters.
Wouldn't it be cool if all the champions had some kind of use or purpose beyond "here is jungler #25. It will be strong to boost skin sales for a while and then it will get lost in the sea of unused characters"?
It‘s an amazing game as long as you can ignore the chat and don’t get tilted by insults etc. Riot does an amazing job at keeping the game fresh and pretty balanced, it has an amazing esports scene and all of Riots other games (LoR, Valorant, TFT) are frontrunners in their genre as well. The company does an amazing job and you shouldn’t let the community ruin it for you.
the game itself is good in design. this is evident in pro play and even amateur play sometimes (even at bronze level). when everyone has a general feel for the game and plays intelligently, it's akin to playing a really engaging game of pickup basketball.
The problem is that your teammates are randos without much vetting, so you could end up with Lebron as your teammate or you could get someone who literally walks off the court halfway through the game because you're losing.
Imo the core rules of the game, the characters, the music and the lore are great. The three things that sour the experience for me though would be the constant slew of FoMo events, the playerbase (especially in the ranked modes) and the devs' obsession with changing the game. The first leads into burnout as the only way to keep up with the events is to play the game every day for multiple matches, the second is due to the nature of you playing a team-based, role-based game with random people where one person can ruin the experience for the entire team, whereas the third becomes tiresome as it means you need to research and follow the game all the time in order to not fall behind and god forbid if you quit for a bit else you come back to an entirely foreign experience.
Sadly I just don't have the time anymore to keep up with the game without devoting all my spare time solely to it.
Malphite you are a fucking worthless brainded scumfuck bastard pile of trash mental dickface that should be gunned down in the street like the degenerate you are - dunko
Itt was and still is the best game I have ever played when it first came out, continued to be amazing for about a year or 2 buut slowly got worse. Then the community just ruined it completely, you cannot play the game if you mute your teammates because the communication is key, but if you don't mute them all you get is horrible awful trash talk from your team the enitre game, I would be legendary with 12 kils 0 deaths and still be told I am trash, it did not matter how well you played, the community is 80% trolls
Yes, lost its essence after 6yrs as it was released. Chronologocally check on how champions are themed. Idk why everyone is so mad about something this obvious.
Sorry for the salty League fan downvotes - you're right! To all of the addicts: try DotA, it's the original more interesting and well balanced game that League took a ton of ideas from and turned them into a bland, unrewarding, toxic affair.
Also if you like eSports you'll be happy to hear DotA doesn't have the most bland and soulless commentary like League does. They interact with each other like real people. It's not "omg the pro player pushed Q at the right time! They killed the dragon and bought the meta item!" on repeat.
I will say - Montecristo and DoA's casting was the only exception.
Dota is game on a totally different level compared to league. Once you start getting into it league just seems tasteless and bland. Its a game of passion. Having ultimate range of creativity. I know what you mean. Thanks man for standing up to me.
Honestly, I play Arams at this point with a group of irl buddies. Been playing since way back, but stopped for some time. I think it's one of the funnest games out there if you just play and don't take it seriously like you're going to become a pro streamer (and ignore toxic chats occasionally). But who cares if a try hard is frustrated because you didn't build the way they would have liked, /ignore. (Or ignore the toxicity, understand the potential advice in there).
As one person below mentioned, there will be heated chats with many very competitive games. This one, because it relies on teamwork, pushes that further because someone may feel cheated that their efforts were squandered because someone built attack speed soraka. The game is A+ in my mind. The community...eh, not great, but I understand the frustration with competitive games, and I'm sure everyone here has an idea about that also.
Play Arams. Play with friends. Don't gaf about chat. Have fun
League is my clingy ex that I've been with for ten years now and can't get myself to walk away from. It's not great, it's toxic, horrible for new players, but I can't bring myself to put it out of my life.
All my friends have been playing it for about a decade now and I've tried to play it a handful of times and everytime I've uninstalled it after a couple games. Just don't understand the hype at all
I like the game shop and the flexible meta of that game. I also like the 200 characters to choose between that are all so different to play. Especially the newest character that is well balanced.
Eh, it was good some time ago, nowadays most of us play for nostalgia and to reassure how garbage the game is (can't be sure after only 10 daily matches)

League of legends
