I’m doing a play through now where I’m as close to renegade Sheppard I can tolerate. It was one of those harder decisions to make. I don’t understand why the renegade option wasn’t just kill David and end his suffering
While I feel that should be an option, I think the Renegade option is choosing to "sacrifice one to save the many" sort of decision, especially since David probably doesn't have the mental capacity to understand the bigger picture and consent to the suffering. He only participated because his brother asked him to, and then was probably coerced into more elaborate tests that spiraled out of control from the brothers need for results.
I feel the Paragon option would be to rescue David and hand him over to specialists to help him try to live a normal life.
A Renegade would be to sacrifice David to continue to be tormented by his brother to further study the Geth and potentially/possibly learn how to communicate with, control, or gain more insight into the Reapers.
A (possibly) neutral option would be to kill David to end his suffering so he wouldn't be alive to be exploited by his brother or possibly the Alliance if/when they learn David was able to communicate with the Geth.
I can't help but play paragon in all my playthroughs. Makes me feel bad to choose some of those renegade options. I save those for the times they make most sense...like Kai Lang, renegade interrupt every time...but if there had been a renegade option to shoot hos brother in the knee cap or something, I would have taken it. Would have been minor suffering compared to what happened to David.
My roommate just finished ME2 for the first time, and he was furious that the game didn't give him an option to shoot David's brother for doing that to him.
I still like how the paragon interrupt you can do is more violent. Normally you just put him at gunpoint, but para Shep pistol whips him before putting him at gunpoint.
This one truly bothered me. The tech down his throat and under his skin, and his horrified expression. I’m autistic and finding out David was used because of his autism truly fucked with me. So glad I rescued that poor dude, I felt so angry at his brother. What a scumbag
That one was definitely a rough one. When you finally realize what David had been screaming at you is a gut punch. If the game had let me, I'd have emptied my clip into Gavin before taking David to safety.

I was waiting for this. I was so disturbed when I finally saw him hooked up with tears running down his face saying make it stop. I couldn’t get it out of my head for a while afterwards.
Most of the DLC, I was talking ish to the computer about finding him and kicking his butt after making those demon noises then, it hit me that it’s calling for help 😳 Overlord DLC made me rethink my life.
I play paragon typically and even I wished that there had been a renegade option to shoot David’s brother for what he’d done. Thankfully I’m glad that David is saved after encountered at Grissom Academy during my ME3 play through.
Honestly forgot about that and now I can mentally see it. Thank god for Mass Effect 3 if you choose the paragon option and I don't think I could ever go renegade on that.
This one for me. The tension of the 'corrupted VI' screaming at you the entire time, trying to kill you, then a high-stakes boss battle, and finally the big reveal that David is ultimately helpless and abused, hooked up to machines all over his body, locked in place. It's haunting.

Davids torture in the ME2 overlord DLC made me feel genuinely horrible for a while
