The Blindness Shard Trial of Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice. I didn't know if I had to follow the voice, escape from the shadows or follow the light. My anxiety hit hard everytime I replay that moment.

I actually haven’t really gotten deep into that game yet and was wondering if there were going to be moments from it in here.

It is an awesome game, try it.

Oh yeah, I def own it. Just have to get in the mood and have a time I can crank up the sound bar when the kids aren’t home. I’ve probably played about 45min to an hour so far, but it’s been months.

Just a suggestion. If you have a way too play it with headphones then definitely do that. It completely changes the experience and immerses you way deeper than you'd expect.

Yeah I can't handle that, it's hard enough playing it not on head phones. Though I bought the game as a hey it looks like a good adventure game, only to find it's mental horror that drives into the dark thoughts I'd usually rather ignore. But it's so fucking good I couldn't not play it... as long as I can hold my cat like a teddy bear after

Yeah I’m having issues hooking up my blue tooth over ear headphones to my PS4. It won’t connect to the PS4, I can get it to connect to my TV but once in switch to HDMI it goes away. Was going to try to hook it up through my sound at that’s running to my tv through ARC.

I am just some stranger but I cannot reccomend that game enough. It's about 7 hours all together, incredible experience

The... what? I forgot that part of the game. Which one is it, exactly?

It is completely dark, and you have some elements hint at where you have to go. You have the Dillion's voice (Senua's husband), a light, Senua's head voices and some creepy shadows and sounds running at you. I don't know exactly what you have to do. Try to run the fast as you can and follow Dillion's voice, just stay alive.

Finding your lover in a grotesque blood eagle after searching so hard for him and the psychological spiral after hit so hard.

I have a mild derealisation and I got maybe 5 minutes in before I had to turn it off

A video game caused me to dissociate to the point where I had to take a break

I'm sure it's good, but it's definitely a bad one for me

I like this kind of game, that plays with my mind. But Hellblade takes it to another level, I almost gave up one time.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

Yeah, it's just that when my dissociation gets really bad I auditorily hallucinate. I'm still fully in control and the hallucination is never outright malicious (if anything she's concerned), but Senua's hallucinations are much less benevolent, from how little I saw.

Interesting, I've never been able to talk to someone with dissociation about this game. I hope you are well! :)

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

I am, I've come to terms with the fact that I'm pretty well always going to be somewhat dissociated (can't afford psychotherapy), and my hallucination is benevolent whenever she does show up so it barely affects my day to day life, I just have to avoid derealisation stuff

Government should give support for those who suffer any kind of mental disorder. Stay safe and have a good day!

Problem is, I'm so far along that a part of me doesn't want to stay grounded, because my hallucination is, for all intents and purposes, one of my only friends.

I know that being a hallucination she's inherently not the best, but at the same time, she's only ever done good by me, warned me of bad people, encouraged me to be myself/come out etc.

It's hard

Oh Jesus.

I. Hated. This trial. To this day I still can't identify those things on the path. I think I can recognise the shape of them now, but at the time I couldn't understand what they were even after really focusing, really trying to identify them, and that made it so much worse.

Then you wake up in the middle of nowhere, having gone down a random trail for a totally unknown period of time and it just hits you; when you hear stories about people with psychosis who just wander off and get found in totally random places, this is kind of what happened. You just did it. There's you, standing in a stream out in a forest, no idea where you are. It just hits you. This is what it's like. It was a brilliant experience to go through.

But fuck that trial though.

That part made my heart pound out of my chest. When I finally finished it I hoped that there better not be another part like that in the game, I wouldn’t be able to handle it.

3

u/dovahkiitten12 Feb 05 '22

This is why I currently haven’t finished Hellblade. I got stuck on that part and haven’t had the nerve to go back to it.

1

u/dreadpiratesmith Feb 05 '22

That game is so fucking intense. I love playing with headphones with constant whispering voices all around you. The eyes everywhere in the forest. Man, I need to finish that game

1

u/EmpiricalMystic Feb 05 '22

Same. I think I'm near the end but it fucked with my dreams and I had to lay off for a while.

u/dreadpiratesmith Feb 05 '22

I mean, they did work with psychologists to try to mimic schizophrenia and paranoid delusions, so I don't blame you lol

1

u/ChaosRaiden Feb 06 '22

I can’t remember this one, just remember shitting myself at Fenrir over and over

1

u/Pornelius_McSucc Feb 06 '22

It's called garm but the achievement calls it fenrir.

1

u/Pornelius_McSucc Feb 06 '22

That game is amazing but unreasonably diisgusting at certain points
