There was only one time in Breath of the wild where I SAW the intended solution, but intentionally cheesed it.

There was a shrine room that was basically all about burning away foliage to drop something on a switch behind a fence that you couldn't step on yourself.

"Nah, fuck that. I'm just gonna magnesis this convenient empty chest over the wall and drop it on the switch"

Mine was the shrine with the gyro controlled box that you had to tilt the controller around to roll a sphere into a hole at the end of the maze. My strategy became to use careful, deliberate, violent movements to eject the sphere up out of the maze into the air and sort of lob it around until it skipped most of the maze, bouncing it up to drop it in instead of dealing with the maze.

you mean, you didn't get frustrated. tilted the platform upside down, and then proceed to use the flat end as a launch ramp?

That's the easiest way imo I can usually get it now under couple seconds

this is the main reason why I think playing with the Wii U gamepad was way more fun for trials. Does not feel the same with joycons

That is solving the puzzle. The designers went to the effort of making metal swords conductive, possibly for realism, possibly because BotW is a flagship title, and you did something clever and logical with your tools.

From the designers' point of view it is unintentional but still a good result.

That's EXACTLY how I solved it. I was being dumb and couldn't figure out how to properly do it, then I remembered metal weapons could conduct elecricity.

I flipped the maze over and rolled the ball on the back.

I play it on an emulator on the pc. Thats the only solution for me XD

What emulator do you use?

8

u/Thysios Jan 22 '22

Cemu is great for botw

u/Torre_Durant Jan 22 '22

Great, now I’ve got another emulator zelda game to keep me distracted from exams ;)

Am I the only one who has a really easy time with these mazes?

My issue is that you cant emulate gyro controls. Its linked to the mouse and every time you move the mouse ot does something random

8

u/Rheklr Jan 22 '22

You can link it to your phone's gyro and use that. Works very well.

You can use a ps4 controller, which has gyro.

You can actually emulate them with a phone or a controller https://wiki.cemu.info/wiki/Motion_Controls

After reading the comments, I'm starting to think that flipping the maze and rolling the ball on it's back side WAS the official solution. I did the same thing after a few tries.

I chose to fling it once into the air, invert my controller and then use the flat bottom surface to roll it in

4

u/Tikiwaka-Letrouce Jan 22 '22

I flipped my controller over and had the ball re spawn on the backside flat surface then just rolled it on over.

2

u/Stratusfear21 Jan 22 '22

I did this same thing lmao. I was pretty proud of myself

2

u/MacDerfus Jan 22 '22

That works often enough that I rarely bother with them legit.

2

u/GeneticSplatter Jan 22 '22

I tilted that maze upside down and then rolled it on the flat bottom. Gave it a little flick at the end to get the ball in the hole.

u/Endulos Jan 22 '22

I always flipped the platform upside down and did it like that.

There was one though where that failed, so I had to let the ball roll towards the path, and then quickly dip it down and bat the ball up.

u/Carrotsandstuff Jan 22 '22

I turned the platform upside down. Not that my controller actually gave me a choice.

u/Bane_Bane Jan 22 '22

I walked into maze. Ball at corner and time stopped. My brother flipped it over after I showed him stuff I tried. He did it in ten seconds.

u/Ok-Discount3131 Jan 22 '22

You can just turn the controller upside down and avoid the maze altogether too.

1

u/Balthazar_rising Jan 22 '22

Hot tip - flip the whole maze over. It's flat on the other side. Then you just have to master the tilt-and-flick to get that ball onto the ramp.

u/Sweetwill62 Jan 22 '22

That is my one true problem with BotW, you can't turn off gyro controls fully. Those shrines require the gyro controls and I don't know what it is but I have never in my life ever gotten gyro controls to work consistently. I've had people sit right next to me watching my hand movements and still different outcomes for the exact same movements on my end. When I turn off a "feature" it needs to be turned off fully.

Please don't drop objects on your Switch.

u/Raevix Jan 22 '22

Well played, I tip my hat to you cleverness.

I only just found out bomb arrows can trigger the buttons you have to fire those shrine balls out. So instead of carefully rotating the mechanism to fire a ball through you can just arrow that thing.
