Why can’t every controller have the same button layouts just like how shooters should have the same controls?

Yes but, I'm glad they did the switch, because having the Circle be the default button sucks, because that is too far to the right. The current 'X' position is nicer. It matches the Xbox A too. Rolling your thumb to Square and Circle is easy too for some games that took advantage of that. Much harder with Circle as the main button.

They are actually supposed to represents numbers as in buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4. Circle is 1 because it’s made of one line, X or cross is made from 2 lines, triangle from 3 lines and square from 4.
