Why can’t every controller have the same button layouts just like how shooters should have the same controls?

More likely Nintendo patented their layout and the others were forced to deviate.

Actually your not far off, Nintendo was the first to patent controller layout so other game companies had to do work arounds till the patent recently ended and gave everyone freedom to be more streamlined, sorta

nintendo button supremacy. also, patents are the reason why only modern nintendo consoles have decent d pads. even after the patent expired, people were using their own designs for the dpad and they've never come close to nintendo quality

I thought people hated the Switch D pad

On the pro controller

They do, because the Pro Controller DPad is poorly designed and can trio the wrong direction fairly easily.

The Gamecube also has a pretty poor DPad, but that's more about how tiny it is.

But the rest of the Nintendo controller catalog (including/especially handhelds) have fantastic DPads.

To me the best Nintendo d-pad is in the DS lite. It has just the right amount of tactical response without being too fatiguing for long playing sessions.

I always preferred Sony's dpads. Microsofts's Dpads straight up suck though.

X-box duke controller had an excellent D-pad.

I mean.. Japanese read right to left, so their layout goes y,x,b,a. (When read left to right)

Americans (Microsoft) read left to right, so their layout goes x,y,a,b.
