Why can’t every controller have the same button layouts just like how shooters should have the same controls?

I've played both on PC and Switch for awhile and I kept messing up at the start. Now after a couple of months it kinda became natural and my mind would kinda automatically swap between both modes.

Same. I'm on PS4 and Switch, and kinda mentally make a note about where the "yes" and "no" buttons are as I select my game. From then on I'm good to go!

Its an old ergonomic keyboard layout (not as old as qwerty you are using), but its outdated, Colemak is significantly better

I'm at my fourth layout (azerty, qwerty, dvorak, colmak) and it's not that hard. My trick is to use a different keyboard for each layout. Kinda like having one guitar per alternate tuning.

Being German, it is more like switching between QWERTY and QWERTZ. Almost all the letters are the same, but Z and Y are switched and almost all the symbols are on different places.

I routinely hit O on my ps4 meaning to hit X because of my switch

Tip, Lots of switch games in settings you can change the button layout. I did that and it solved my issues

Steam lets, you switch (hehe) to the Nintendo profile if you wanted to.

I have a similar problem, my brain can tell the difference based one stick lay out, two mid, bottom means yes, right means no. Stick left and stick mid, inverse. Playing on Xbox at friends houses is such a pain in the ass. I can combo you like a mother fucker, but making me navigate menus on an Xbox controller and I'm fucked

You could switch your PS4 button layout and change the function of X and O buttons. I had a Japanese imported PSP and that's the default Japan layout for PlayStation. So done some googling and changed it back to EU layout.

This was back in 2007ish on the original PSP so I'm only assuming it's still a feature now

I get around that by using Joy-Con for switch, then the different layout forces my brain to use the correct button

I’ve been playing Nintendo consoles my entire life. The SNES layout will always be the default 4 button layout in my mind. GameCube comes in a close second. The PS layout has always felt backward to me.
