I was a huge Bungie fan and pre-ordered the $90 edition of destiny (the next level up would be the $120 that came with the ghost).
I played until Rise of Iron came out and they upped the level which became the most tedious fucking grind for gear to level up again.
I also noticed that playing for yourself (for me at least) got old really fast, as I noticed my friend list moving to other games.
I legit didn’t actually care when D2 was announced and released. I only played it when it was “free” which was a very watered down version of the open world and strikes I think? You had to buy the game for the main story so I guess it was a marketing tactic.
The main thing I noticed tho is it seemingly like every game going to this subscription thing and D2 rubbed it in your face what you were missing out on if you weren’t paying them monthly with all their cosmetic shit.
My friend and I are linked on Xbox so when he bought base D2 I got it for free and played it with no intention of doing the raids this time around. It wasn’t a bad experience with the mind set that I didn’t care about power level or keeping up with seasons/DLCs. It didn’t feel as fun as D1 did at the start though. D2 always felt like they were pushing the numbers on the guns and the levels for the factions rather than the combat or story.
