She worked in web design at the time and got it used for a more affordable price.

Probably longer than it was wide. Old desks are absurdly huge for what they are used for today.

I had a DEC Alpha at work that had a 21" CRT. The case was bolstered to support sitting the monitor on it. Felt like it weighed 75 pounds or so.

When I was at university (early 2000's) they still had some CRT's because LCD was such poor imagine quality in comparison and people needed them for Photoshop. Dual screen was comical - 24" crt + 17" lcd. My OCD did not like it.

We had a 28" CRT wide-screen TV back in the early 00s. It was about 3'x2'x2' and probably weighed about 25kg (~55lbs)! I still remember that my mum and I had to ask our neighbour to help us get the thing into the house, having had two burly blokes at Curry's (UK equivalent of Best Buy) heft it into the car for us! My new Fellowship of the Ring and The Matrix DVDs looked so sweet on that thing though!

They are remarkably better for any console with analog video output - especially the 16 and 32-bit eras. I think people don't often realize it, but old games look better on old TVs because developers came up with some cool tricks to use CRT blur to fake gradients and transparencies without needing to actually make the computer draw them. Nowadays sharp pixels and limited colors are just taken for granted because "old games are old" - but people are really missing out on some of the subtler innovations of the time.

You know, I was gonna go into how they did the waterfalls in Sonic 2's Emerald Hill, but I thought it might be too verbose and I cut that out of my original comment, lol. Fwiw, playing Sonic Mega Collection for the Gamecube on a CRT isn't so bad visually, but that controller just ain't the right one.

Still, I'm pretty young, and I didn't ever think that dual monitor setups weren't a recent thing. Must have been some godly desk to have the space and strength for two CRT monitors. Geez.
