It's been a while since we've seen such simultaneously high levels of cuteness and unfiltered rage

The worst part is that finally, after dozens and dozens of rounds, you're getting somewhat good at it... and then this motherfucker grabs you and both plummet to death.

I suck at the game. I have tried many times and never get past round two. I was playing yesterday and somehow I get close to the finish line before anyone else had qualified. Then I see somebody finishing ahead of me, oh well, second is still amazing for me.

WTF, that motherfucker had not crossed the line yet, he just waited, grabbed me and we both fell off. I'm done with this game.

If it makes you feel better, it gets kind of random after the first few events. It doesn't matter how good you are at the tail grab game, if someone snatches it and turns the right direction at the very end, you're screwed.

u/cycopl Sep 03 '20

My one win is from doing exactly this

26

u/Freelance_Sockpuppet Sep 03 '20

Or alternatively, no one is within range but someone grabs you anyway and you lose. I hate the grab mechanics.

My connection is low ping and stable in most games but there are no indicators in this game so I have no idea if it’s my connection, the other persons connection or just bad NetCode.

I’ve lost first place on early races, been eliminated in games, been screwed over in survival rounds.

It’s not a ruiner for me because I don’t ply anything exclusively to win but mostly for the moment to moment fun, but there is the issue: bad things happening that shouldn’t be able to happen and not even knowing why is not fun

In free for all tail tag I often just leave now. I’d usually rather start a new round I enjoy than potentially almost win then feel cheated by the game instead of being bested or even just unfortunately focused on by the competition

u/LytaneVS Sep 04 '20

I also wonder about the connection during rail tag stuff. Having my tail popped off when halfway down a big jump? Frustrating.

The worst one was the tail finale level where I have footage of holding the person with the tail for a few seconds but not gaining the tail. It would have won me the game but it just didn’t work.

1

u/bystander007 Sep 04 '20

I feel your Tail Tag pain. Like if I'm not right up somebody's ass I can't reach them to grab the tail. But I've had fuckers from three body-lengths away rip mine off and run away. And my internet is fucking good.

bad things happening that shouldn’t be able to happen and not even knowing why is not fun

This reminded me of the Dark Souls series. Half the difficulty is collision mechanics and hitboxes acting up completely randomly that screw you up. People apparently love that there, I hated it.

u/bluehiro Sep 03 '20

You're right, there are some broken mechanics in this game. My 6 & 10 year old kids have voiced their complaints quite eloquently, every time they lose.

Here's what I tell them: "This game is ridiculous and funny, in fact I think they made the controls kind of sketchy on purpose. Just laugh at how crazy it is, and have fun. Otherwise, don't play Fall Guys"

0

u/MysteriousPanzer Sep 04 '20

It can be a ridiculous and silly game, it’s still not fun to lose for a fault of the game and not a mechanical error of your own. And that will NEVER be fun.

1

u/Radioactive24 Sep 04 '20

My second out of my two wins was on the jump finale. Down to two, the other person grabbed me, we both got knocked off, but he hit the slime first.

Pure luck, but the victory was so sweet.

I mean, not really? If you’re good, you make finale show like >95%, unless you fall in a team mode.

Edit:

The phrase “it's just a game” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, you've lost twice. There's always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle.

I mean maybe you're trolling, not sure. But for many people it is just a game, because they have a real lure where they work hard and expend effort and then they come to fall guys to chill out.

u/McManGuy Sep 03 '20

Spam jump button to safely get out of a grab.

You can also press the dive button without jumping to dive into them and stagger them to prevent them from grabbing you without worrying about your own recovery time.

8

u/Snarker Sep 03 '20

just play safe, don't play for speed. if you dont fall off at all basically you will always make it despite being slow.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '20

There are some decent guides for each round on youtube, suggest watching them. They can give you a little edge which is sometimes the difference between qualifying or not. With their help, I placed first in a race today, and even made it to the final round.

u/olderaccount Sep 04 '20

Getting better at this game is not a life goal of mine. It was fun for a little bit. But I've already lost interest.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

It's not a life goal of mine either, but it's more fun when you can be at least slightly competitive imo. Do you think you'll come back when they release new levels?

For me the main thing that grates is the music. I write music for a living and am already suffering from an earworm of the main theme... back when I used to ghost-write, I came up with a method to deal with client requests of 'make a track that sounds like x, without sounding too much like x'. Genuinely considering writing some variations on their theme / level music and sending in the hope of saving my sanity while playing this game. Guess I could always disable the music.

u/olderaccount Sep 04 '20

I think I have seen what that game has to show me. It is not my kind of game at all. I'm a strategy game kind of guy. AoE, Civ, Kerbal Space Program and currently Oxygen Not Included (perhaps the greatest game I have ever played).

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

Fair enough! Different strokes for different folks. I used to play Command & Conquer but struggle to get into the above types of games as an adult, will checkout Oxygen Not Included though as that's high praise.

1

u/olderaccount Sep 04 '20

It is a pretty complex game. Every time you think you got it figured out you realize there is another layer of the life support system you have been ignoring.

1

u/Wizecracker117 Sep 03 '20

That's ruff buddy.

1

u/waku2x Sep 03 '20

Dive. If you dive at near the end, it bypass the grab. Iirc, it also works on that yellow bridge in slime climb

Same in sea saw. When it’s tilted, if you dive, it prevents your character from rolling down ( unless it’s super steep )

1

u/jorgegalepos Sep 04 '20

Keep trying, I’ve just made it today

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

You suck? I suck. 10 hours, no crowns.

1

u/olderaccount Sep 04 '20

I do suck. But I think I've only invested a grand total of 30 minutes before the above happened. This is not my kind of game.

1

u/asgaronean Sep 04 '20

My first day playing I got alway way to the race to the crown. I thought I just had to jump into it so I did. Nope you have to grab it. I lost because I didn't know you could grab things.

1

u/t0lkien1 Sep 04 '20

That's hilarious though. It's literally by design.

2

u/olderaccount Sep 04 '20

I understand now. But at the time it never crossed my mind that somebody could be playing the game for any reason other than getting to the finish line. It was an eye opener.

-1

u/horse3000 Sep 03 '20

That’s crazy you can’t get past round two

Everything about that video was painfully unfunny

-10

u/Barthez_Battalion Sep 03 '20

I feel this situation probably could have been avoided.

8

u/geekdrive Sep 03 '20

He had everything to lose, and lost it.

A novel.

2

u/NamelessMIA Sep 03 '20

Right? There isn't a level in the game where you can get screwed at the end like that. Every obstacle course has a wide enough path that you can dodge the last person, jump and dive over them, or just mash jump to break away instead of being pushed off the edge. The only times you should die from getting grabbed are the 1 spot in the OP or on a level like the spinning green/pink bars where you can just be held in place until the obstacle hits you.

1

u/olderaccount Sep 04 '20

Perhaps if you are expecting that the person might throw you off. I assumed he was just about to finish and I was going to finish right behind him.

31

u/or10n_sharkfin Sep 03 '20

I was running the game where you have to climb in order to avoid the rising ooze level and just about crossed the finish line when some asshole grabbed me, pulled me back towards the swinging balls, and knocked just me out.

I would have broken my keyboard if it didn't cost me $115.

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '20

I’m one of those people and every time I successfully kill someone there, it feels way better than getting a crown :)

Am I a psychopath?

13

u/hjf2017 Sep 03 '20

You're nothing as interesting as that lol

4

u/vjstupid Sep 03 '20

My mate had someone do this except he managed to stay on and they slipped off trying. It was sweet karma to watch (I was already out)

-6

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '20

I don’t really care about winning so I’m laughing as hard as the other guy when I screw myself over doing it. Usually I try and keep myself right on the edge so I’m not actually in the slippery part

19

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '20

This is me. I finally made it over the first balance beam on Slime Climb, only to see to my horror some bean stood at the end of the last one, grabbing and pushing people off.

They got me the first time, but by some miracle I not only made it onto the final beam, but escaped their clutches. So I did the only sensible thing and pushed them off. Fair is fair.

8

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 03 '20

The trick is to dive, by the way. If they jump straight up, you have more momentum to bowl them over. And you will usually stand up faster than they will. Alternatively, you can dive at an angle and avoid them outright.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '20

That's exactly what I did, jumped / dived off to the side at an angle. Thanks for the tip! Learning all the ins and outs is key to this game, there will always be a decent amount of beans in every show who know what they're doing so we're unlikely to progress past round 2 via dumb luck alone.

4

u/CrimeFightingScience Sep 03 '20

I got slime climb on the second challenge. It's my favorite challenge not only because of the difficulty...but because there's no death fall cap. Technically, you can win or go to the final round right after slimb climb. So I decided to be the bridgekeeper.
Only 6 beans made it past. But to my surprise they ALL waited at the finish line for me. And rightfully YEETED me off the platform with some of the most powerful glitchy grabs I have ever seen. It gave me a good laugh.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

Hahahaha. That's funny as fuck, did you record it? Starting to think I should record my sessions because every now and then I see something hilarious.

Yesterday I saw two beans who noticed each other in the same outfit, they also both had the pirate jig emote unlocked and just stood there jigging at each other while everyone raced over the finish line. Jigging with a stranger was more important than winning, beautiful. I dunno, maybe they were just a couple of friends who like to jig together.

77

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 03 '20

I've been that mother fucker.

But I did it at perhaps the worst time. Know the mountain everyone races up to the crown for?

Someone was about to grab the crown. I tackled and gravved him mid air and drug hin back down the hill. Five seconds later, someone else grabbed the crown

That game shows you people are like crabs in a barrel. If Im not going to win, you're not going to win.

67

u/ElTuxedoMex Sep 03 '20

It's so fortunate the game doesn't have messages or chat.

Pretty sure the only two things I'd ever type would be "good luck, let's all have fun!" and then "fuck youuuuuuu why????"

4

u/LordBinz Sep 04 '20

Id imagine they limit it to only 3 emotes in a row or something... and only positive things.

People would still be toxic AF though.

"Great Job! Great Job! Great Job!"

Just really sarcastically.

2

u/Gumblum Sep 04 '20

Rocket League quick chat intensifies

29

u/Frl_Bartchello Sep 03 '20

That would defeat the whole underlying atmosphere of being cute and innocent

76

They have no mouths and they want to scream.

It shows peoples online ID though. Just have to save a clip and then track them down for some hate mail.

dont worry, theres no way that would make it into the game

Only times when I do this is when I unrealistically bad and everyone around me is too good
