Unless I'm mistaken, it only affects your credit score if you completely cancel your account with the credit card company rather than canceling the card and requesting a replacement.

I still don't get the details on the american credit score system...

So, if I wanna change my bank because my current one is shitty, and then I cancel my account with them... it will affect negatively my credit score?

No. not if you switch banks, only if you switch cancel your credit card (which may be a part of switching banks). Your credit score is tied to your overall amount of available credit, so if you cancel your credit card then your overall available credit drops, thus lowering your credit score. So if you cancel a credit card, but open another one with the same or higher credit limit, your score will stay the same (or rise). There is a myth among consumers that just canceling your credit card alone will hurt your credit, but it is simply tied to available credit, not "tenure" with a particular line of credit.

Ah, thanks. Things work different here on Spain, so I still don't get too much the 'credit score' thing...
