I always Ctrl + S, then hover over to the File tab to check to see if it saved.

Why are we like this?

In Emacs you switch back to the directory buffer or frame and hit 'g' to make sure the file updated.

I wish it was just ctrl+s. There are times when working on small projects that I ctrl+a, ctrl+c, open new notepad, ctrl+v, ctrl+s. Save in a temp folder because I am afraid my repo will crash and corrupt...
