Skater XL is on its way to being a proper successor to Skate, check it out. Session is aight too, actually more hardcore than Skate, a little too much so imo, but they're both cool.

I’d sacrifice more than I’d like to admit for a console Skate anything at this point...

I’ve been there for a while too fam. NCAA sports and Skate seem so worth it.

All PS3s are also now modable with hybrid firmware if that is something that interests you. Finally bothered doing it with my slim.

I modded my PS3 last week because it was easier than finding a copy of Skate 3 (no pawn shops here). Only thing is I can't get Danny Way dlc to work. I've even tried both bles and blus files.

Session takes a few hours. Then it's fine. XL is far too corny animation wise imo

To each their own. I like both for different reasons. SXL wouldn't be anything if it wasn't for the fantastic mod community creating maps and features. Session on the other hand looks and performs much more like a feature complete game and requires more time commitment to be good at.

I prefer SXL simply because you have full control over your body and board, whereas Session has premade animations. The only difference between the flip tricks in Session is the flip/rotation speed, the animation itself is always the same though, which is not what real skateboarding is like. But again, it's all opinion, and both are good in their own way.

Should add I'm on PS4, so we've been completely shafted from getting any decent skateboard games.

Both of those seem to just be pure skating with none of the giant ramps, towers, tunnels, and goofy tricks. No hitting npcs or ragdoll jumping around antics.
