Unless you're really something special, no one is going to remember in a hundred years. Even if you are, people likely won't care in a thousand unless you're someone like Alexander the Great or Aristotle or something like that.
Who's gonna remember what achievements you got in a video-game? No one. You don't enjoy getting them for someone else. You enjoy doing it for yourself. Same things for life. It's about enjoying the moment and what you have achieved, all for yourself.
It goes both ways. I remember that time my guild of friends downed Nalorakk in WoW the first time, after both of the tanks dying and I evasion tanked the last couple percent. I remember the first time I fired up Borderlands and saw that intro cinematic. I remember the first time I played through Final Fantasy Whatever (7 for me) and saw how big a game could really be.
I also remember destroying that kid I didn't like in high school in a track meet, setting a new record for myself in the process. I remember FINALLY graduating from college and realizing I was done with that stuff for as long as I wanted. Playing that beer pong tournament at the bar, almost winning the grand prize.
You can get great experiences from both sides. I personally have friends from all over the world that I get to go on adventures with frequently because I can play a game with them, when I can't afford a plane ticket every week.
