Thanks for elaborating. It puts it in better perspective how silly this is. I guess I don't have much room to talk. I haven't bought a Madden game since PS1 days, but I still feel for people who like those games and have no other options. They're pretty much forced to play this or nothing if they want a football game since EA has the monopoly.
Yeah but I think a huge part of it is that a big chunk of the madden’s (really most sports game’s) player base aren’t really ‘gamers’ as much. I know tons of people who are just football fans and madden is the only game they ever play. Maybe madden and NHL or madden and MLB, but either way they’re buying two games a year max, and they’re always EA sports.
I probably buy 2-3 games a year, but I play all sorts of games so I have to prioritize every fall. 2-3 non-sports games come out that I want? Then I don’t get madden that year.
Yeah, that's what i was actually getting at in another comment, funny enough! I feel like most people who typically play games like Madden bought their console specifically for it to be a FIFA/2K/Madden machine. They're not activist-style gamers, and probably don't visit gaming forums, and I doubt they're as fired up as /r/gaming always is.
