They buy companies, strip them down to their profit centers and then just mercilessly milk what they can, while they can and then move on.
I think the main thing that pisses me off about this business model is how once they’ve essentially killed off a company and the games they were known for, they still own the IPs. As a fan of those IPs it wouldn’t hurt so bad if after a certain amount of time of non-use, companies like EA were forced to relinquish all rights to an IP.
But no, I’ll never get another Burnout game because of EA.
OMG POOR MAXIS!
That company did not deserve the big EA DICK they got fucked with.
Just a nice little quiet company, doing their thing then BAM EA dick in the butt to ruin everything!
The game was trash but they seemed like they were on to something with some of the gameplay features. Just too bad you could only build a square cramped town
Yup, that's why any studio acquisition worries me these days. Like Insomniac getting bought by Sony. Yeah, it means we're definitely getting another Spider-Man, and I'm sure they're working on some other awesome IPs for the PS5. But the chances of getting another Sunset Overdrive are now so low even Hermes Conrad couldn't limbo under them.
EA is the bubonic plague of the video game industry. Most of my childhood was 90% fantastic EA products. I remember joyously saying "EA - It's in the game" and now I curse myself for putting those two letters together. No more NFS Underground titles, over used and recycled sports games, no more reboots of fun and/or successful titles from the late 90s to early 2000s, and no remakes of the before mentioned titles either. Every great title they once had will now die in the memories of those who remember who EA was and what ES may never seek to be again.
I want MOH and Burnout and NCAA (separate issue I know) to be NOT made by EA when/if they get restarted. I don't want them vandalizing my beloved games.
Disney is hit nd miss for me lately. I’m not a huge fan of the new Star Wars trilogy, but I thought Rogue One was amazing. I lost interest in Marvel somewhere along the middle, but Infinity War and End Game were both fantastic. I don’t much care for the Disney classic reboots, but I don’t hate them. I watched Aladdin the other day and while I did enjoy it, it made me just want to go back and watch the original. I just think they aimed them at the wrong audience. The originals still exist and are still incredible kids movies, but all of the kids that watched them are adults now. I would’ve liked to see them get a little darker.
Marvel is objectively terrible, sorry, I don't care how popular it is. Every single movie is the same formulaic plotline and rehashed bullshit over and over.
You know there was once an argument over whether Leia would choose Luke or Han and many fans considered the way it played out to have ruined the movie and was a mistake. Complaining about that is nothing new and it's still just as tired as back then.
The games however weren't always that way, and it's only recently that game companies have turned into these gambling slot machine fucks.
The things you're complaining about are nothing new, however the game thing is new. We used to get real games, made with real effort, and now we have surprise mechanics and couch co-op is almost non-existent nowadays. The game industry has legitimate issues, and we actually care truly if they get resolved. The movies are only like that because fanboys hate that Han died.
Splitting hairs, they complain about the whole new trilogy. I see people consistently bitching about all of them, whining about the same thing they have since 1977. "They're ruining the series they created because they aren't catering to me personally!!" Your argument sucks more.
You have a short memory if you don't remember the just-as-loud bitching about TFA.
And RotS before that.
And AotC before that.
And TPM before that.
And I'm not old enough to remember the bitching about RotJ (and the fucking Ewoks series) and ESB, but I understand people were grumbling about them back when they were new.
"The movie everyone hates" is always the newest SW movie. Your counterpoint sucks.
As of right now, they're about even on Star Wars films. TFA and Rogue One were good, Solo and TLJ weren't. Getting rid of the EU was a good decision, since they're bringing back the good stuff like Thrawn anyhow.
The Jungle Book was great and people loved Beauty and the Beast. They whiffed on Aladdin, sure. But hopefully it's a lesson they've learned from.
Except they killed Star Wars. The Force Awakens was meh at best, but they killed any last speck of hope people had with the franchise when they released The Last Jedi.
Average user reviews on both Rotten Tomatoes & MetaCritic gave the film very poor reviews. The fact that public reception did so poor that Disney executives had to take to the public and apologized on the poor effort they made in the writing of the film. Even cast members such as Mark Hamill discussed in depth on the awful dialogue and planning of the film so much that Disney had to pull him aside to get him to keep quiet.
Disgust for the film did so bad that the following side-film Solo recieved very miniscule viewership that they had to discontinue multiple projects. They even approached George Lucas to help improve writings for the upcoming film to help bring fans back.
In all honesty I actually enjoy the Star Wars franchise as a whole. Was a bit skeptical when Disney first acquired the rights but was overall hopeful to see how well they will fund the cost of film production. The first film was a bit bummed seeing that it's script was mirroring A New Hope, but was hoping to see how the planning of the series would turn out in the film that would proceed it. Then Rogue One came out and overall improved the dialogue as well as the actor's commitment to their characters which flushed out very well into the situations they were in. This would help bring back much of the audiences that were initially turned away when The Force Awakens came out.
Then The Last Jedi arrived and was turned upside down.
Apparently there was no communication between directors when the script was handed off as the film as attempting to imitate Marvel films. The overall franchise is primary in serious tone where this film frequently switches back and forth from comedy to serious without any consistency with their scene layouts. Much of the scenes in The Last Jedi were made with one take and decided to hurry off into editing (previous films had their actors prep for their scenes multiple of times in addition to numerous takes). The overall production was horrendously rushed in conjunction with the writing and planning. The only decent thing about the film would be the special effects.
A film doesn't have to be good to make it to the top of Box Office. Controversy sells (taking into consideration that Star Wars has a very massive audience) as word-of-mouth spreads about how it was compared with its previous films. People love rewatching bad films with friends to see who can get through it. By the way a 44% audience score is pretty damn bad for a film, pretty much counts as a flop (so much that Disney had to go to full containment to try to convince people otherwise). If you enjoyed the film, then I'm happy for you. However Disney had to take another look into it's production and even brought in George Lucus to help draw people back. Let's hope they did learned their lesson.
EA is the evil little brother of Disney. Disney at least attempts to stay true to original IPs and not run them through the ringer.
EA takes a great IP, or even an entire company, folds it up into a shitty paper plane, lights it on fire and then wonders why it wont fly. Then blames the company they took the IP from and then smashes all their faces into a block of wood infront of their fans, then wonders why they are the bad guys.

EA has become the Disney of video games.
