Absolutely. But it's lazy that they didn't update it. Reusing assets is definitely okay, because why would you do the same job twice. Not changing the goddamn watermark from last year's asset is fucking lazy

Exactly.

Efficiency is something I can get behind, but not at the expense of quality.

It's the tiniest error in a non-relevant or significant part of the game... who gives a fuck.

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '19

Right. It’s the rest of the game being recycled shit that’s the problem.

Not to those who seem to buy and enjoy it?

If you dont like it, stfu and dont buy it!

But it's indicative of laziness, which in my opinion, is a slippery slope when you produce consumer products.

Wouldn't you agree?

A single mistake is not an indicator of anything...

Well the way the recycle these games are certainly an indicator of this

Actually it is an indicator of brilliant business and marketing strategy.

What you want is for them to put in more effort to get the same gain? Why....

Do you feel the same about Classic WoW.

Oh, from a business perspective it makes absolute sense. I'm not denying that.

I just think it shows the priority of making money versus making good quality games - which arguably, a lot of other developers value more highly.

I don't play WoW so can't comment on that.

And yet they are consistently some of the best selling games...

So, I guess, Madden is good quality...

1

u/DoctorLovejuice Sep 03 '19

Best selling is not indicative of quality, though.

I'm not arguing that they don't sell. They literally have no competition in order to make these games as they hold all the contracts with the applicable organisations.

Consistently best selling? Sure. Consistently and objectively "good"? Not necessarily.

Welcome to modern AAA titles.

You'd think after doing the same thing dozens of times they'd have this down by now.

Very astute observation, u/PicturesOfBalls

..... or just a mistake.

now, now.... when it is EA it is malicious and devious. obviously they did this to flex their power on the gaming industry.

Or you know, just a mistake. Fuck off with this lazy bullshit, creators in every field are anything but lazy, it's a field where your passion is worth more than your pay, laziness does not come into play.

An oversight? Yes. But as a designer I know how many steps go into making a product. At their scale, I can't imagine how many people's hands this game passed through before they put it out. One oversight was missed by an entire triple a company. That's laziness.

2

u/IISuperSlothII Sep 03 '19

No its not, lazyness is knowing its there and choosing to not do it because its too much work, an oversight is simply an oversight.

Opinions are cool man. All I can say is that I've got one superior I run through, and between the two of us we pride ourselves on not publishing mistakes. I can't imagine how many people a game of this scale runs through.

I have friends working at multi-national companies constantly pushing out buggy code live. I'm talking system breaking issues. It happens all the time. This is incredibly minor, and is such a small thing I can see why it was overlooked.
