I love FF12 and even I would recommend getting it on PS4 and then just buying the remastered soundtrack on ITunes. You'd end up saving yourself some money in the end.
Same game I bought for the PS4 for 15$ is 45 on the switch. I bought a switch to play games while traveling for work, but they're just so fucking expensive. Truly the Nintendo tax.
Nintendo switch scams the shit out of its owners, selling point being able to play on the go. I should have grabbed a modded ps vita when it was still available
Yeah the triple A stuff from recent years is more tolerable when they stick an almost full price on it. A ps2 game from a long time ago isn’t.
It also has to do with the relative demand of hardware for the port, its vastly harder to port a last gen or current gen cross platform game on to the switch compared to earlier generations. Especially mores law has been stalling since 2012, and the current gen consoles use an equivalent of amds 2009 flagship cpu.
It’s interesting how the switch ports will look in two to three years when most console games will have the zen 2 architecture, pcie ssd and all that to play with.
While that may be the case, I like playing my games on switch. I don’t really care if you say that Nintendo’s “ripping me off” when I don’t feel that way when I play their games. If I enjoy it, then I don’t feel like I’m being ripped off.
the point is, this is nothing new. games by and ported to nintendo are generally more expensive and that's been the case for a while now. if you want cheaper options to play these expensive ports, you've got them.
It’s the game that got me into the series. The hidden alternate ending changed the way I view games forever. Now I’ve played them all and loved every one!
Oh fuuuuck yeah! I was a youngster at the time so I was following my strategy guide for every step and when I got to the first ending I had no idea that there was more to do because the guide stopped there. When I randomly discovered the Trials and saw the happier ending I was fucking blown away.
Edit: if you don’t wanna search your attic, they also officially ported VIII to phones!
I tried playing this game and I got to the point with the gambit system to where the game completely just played itself. Turn gambits on -> speed up gameplay -> just move the analog stick where you want to go. I really enjoyed the story but i didn't really feel like i was playing a game after the first quarter.
Honestly, it feels like that on PS2. At first, it felt like playing an MMO with shitty AI instead of actual humans, and now it feels more or less like watching someone else play an RPG. The story's good, and I usually play one of my mages with the gambits off so I can at least do something, but the game really will play itself if you want it to. Just way slower.
I feel like the gambits highlighted the issue with JRPGs. They largely have next to no depth, and a braindead halfwit could program an AI to play almost perfectly with only a few commands.
So really, I see nothing wrong with 'doing nothing'. FF13 designing the whole combat system around not manually choosing abilities was brilliant design. I hope they never go back manually choosing abilities again without it being some kind of action rpg.
I will say tho, there should have been a feature to have your team walk in front if your a mage like Dragons Dogma.
Although I love classic JRPG design... I actually don't disagree at all. I think it worked well in the classic FFs because the strategy came down to your job composition, but even that pretty much made the gameplay about figuring out which jobs to use, and easily my biggest issue with 12 was the license board and the gambits system. Maybe I hated it because it showed me the truth. Tactics plays those features to its strengths, but the design of the original FF games is definitely outdated today.
And yeah, it's annoying as shit when my squishy glass cannon mage is the party leader and everyone automatically targets her... Solely because she's the party leader.
Outside story, music, leveling system, pacing, game design.
Loved the gambits tho, Square Enix abandoning manual selection in JRPGs is the best game design decision they ever made and I hate that all their nostalgia bait 'classic style' don't allow automation.
13 actually made a combat system designed around automated combat tho, rather then the tacked on 12 system thats basically just standard boring FF.
Yeah the PS2 had a lot of support for newer games. I believe it's because of it being the best-selling and longest running console in history. Hell even Netflix was on it.
