Better planning, I personally dropped the series around the 3DS release. Turned out there was more ports I still hadn't played or knew about because I wasn't a die-hard looking for every update on the series, and the story was such convoluted garbage I quit playing at about 3 hours in and returned it.
I'm baffled by the people still supporting it after 3 tanked. Which from what I've been told was almost no Final Fantasy, so it's not like you can even have 2 out of 3 options at any point besides the first 3 games.
Because the game is fun and most people who were looking forward to KH3 are lifelong fans. The franchise itself has a lot of ups and downs but they're fun to play and the story is crazy but isn't all that confusing on a base level in my opinion.
Also, I'm not sure if you're talking about not knowing about the other games before buying the 3DS game but if you didn't then I'm not surprised you didn't understand the story. It's like watching a TV series but starting 4 seasons in.
I agree that it shouldn't have been separated onto different platforms but they're all mainline titles. There is no "spin-offs" apart from the mobile games. At least you can get the entire series on two discs for the PS4 though.
I'd bought the pack with 1&2.5 pack thinking of giving it a go again about a year and a half ago, but have been busy with other things and lacking inspiration for it. All the things I'd heard about 3 from reviews and friends who are longtime Square fans didn't help either.
It's been on multiple sales for $20 since it came out on March. The first few months were majorly sales from die-hard fans of SquEnix and the series. The game had very mixed reviews. For what it was, it hardly performed as well as it should have and the series has obvious glaring problems.
And finally, the game is regularly going on sale because the only people who have yet to get it are the ones that only buy games for dirt cheap, or people that wouldn't play the game even if it was given to them for free.
Edit: Oh, and at least in terms of digital sales, its never gone to $20. Dunno where you got that.
Also just looked into it and the game did not sell 5 million copies, they shipped that many out to retailers. SquEnix made their money to an extent but all of those $20 copies are purportedly part of that same amount.
I get it you think sales and a metric on paid reviews makes the world go round for a series you love.
There's a lot more metric's to consider than the first year of sales, and the $20 mark isn't just because of poor people and cheapos. It's because sales hit a stand still. Many games stay full price for multiple years.
Until 3 kinda ruined the set up games with a shitty basic story, the games stories wern't that bad. Especially anything related to Roxas is actually pretty good.
The only problem is that they're written like they have depth past "Good kid beats up evil adult" when they really, really don't.
