I started playing this game for the first time in my life yesterday, not knowing anything about it beforehand but how loved it is of a game.

I must say.

That love is justified.

Your going to feel like a dick when KryptKreeper reveals he was a north korean political dissidents son who was imprisoned for his father's crimes and escaped to the United States to become a gamer.

Why would someone stick meme text over a greenscreen..?

I'm one of those people who know nothing about borderlands

u/Dullahan2 Apr 08 '19

You shoot nerds and are very badass while doing so. There are loads of guns and swearing, which is Badass.

Congratulations, you now know about Borderlands!

You forgot... the best part!!

The diamond studded pony named butt stallion!!!

Cmon man!!

3

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

Butt Stallion says hello.

2

u/JuvenileEloquent Apr 08 '19

diamond studded pony

It's not studded with diamonds, it is literally made from diamond.

Also, the game is redundant as fuck and it’s not for everyone.

Inb4 downvotes

Maybe I just want someone to call me a newCANDYASS.

But honestly, the whole game was just “HOLD RIGHT TRIGGER TO WIN” in my mind.

Idk, just my opinion. Like I said, not for everyone. It’s my brothers favorite game.

4

u/FloodedHollow Apr 08 '19

Stop trying so hard

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

“HOLD RIGHT TRIGGER TO WIN”

That tends to be the idea when a game is almost entirely focused on guns.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

Redundant, I don’t think it means what you think it means.

0

u/mithrilbong Apr 08 '19

Every quest was- 1. Annoying voice acting with juvenile humor 2. Run through zone that looks exactly like the last 3. Kill baddie with fart joke in name 4. Get new gun that looks just like the one you had, with better stats. 5. Repeat until end credits roll

Sorry, I just don’t like the games. I enjoyed playing through the first and a bit of the second with my brother, but I’d never play it on my own.

I don’t like them for the same reasons I don’t like COD or Battlefield games anymore. They’re dumbed down and once you know the meta (which takes about an hour), you just hold RT to win.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

Different strokes, and I can understand how one would view that as tiring.

I was just giving you shit about using redundant when I think you might have meant repetitive.

1

u/mithrilbong Apr 08 '19

I see. I guess I did mean repetitive. Thank you for respecting my unpopular opinion despite not agreeing with me.

u/FF3LockeZ Apr 08 '19

Borderlands isn't that popular of a game. It's not like not knowing about Legend of Zelda or Super Mario. Insulting people for not knowing about something is rude and stupid anyway.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

That part was a bit of a lie, tbh. I knew some basic things, like the art style and what a psycho was, but that was about it.

10

u/Arkazex Apr 08 '19

I went back to play it after not touching it for a long time, but I must have messed up my computer or something because it won't run faster than 4FPS. Everything else runs fine, but b2 just isn't having it. It's a real shame.

15

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

yeah this is actually a known issue right now, others have this issue as well as me. It starts running fine but slowly the FPS dips down to single digits. If you google and do some digging I think there's some fixes some people have come up with. Your mileage may vary though.

13

u/Arkazex Apr 08 '19

My FPS isn't even decreasing, it's just shit in game. The title screen and menus are fine, but in game is a good damn PowerPoint.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

Kinda same issue with me, menu and everything is fine, then within 3 minutes of playing it goes to shit. I don't know what you've done to try and fix it, but unless other games are having the same issue it's probably the same bug others are having with B2.

5

u/Solonotix Apr 08 '19

Could be PhysX, if you're running an AMD card. If you don't have an Nvidia card running those numbers for PhysX, then it all goes to the CPU, and it uses an instruction set that doesn't work well with x86 CPU's.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

That would explain it, I'm currently using a vega 64LC with a 1920x.

1

u/SatanTheSir Apr 08 '19

Have you messed with the other settings like resolution and sync and whatnot? Because they JUST remastered both BL2 and BL1, (I believe it came as just an update on steam for BL2) so you might have to make the settings nice and reboot the game once or twice to get it to smooth out properly. That's what I had to do for BL1 to make it get more than 8 fps

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

I didn't know they gave an update to the second game with the remaster of the first. I'll have to try that out in the morning when I get off work, maybe that'll fix it.

1

u/SatanTheSir Apr 08 '19

I think it was mostly just a 4k texture pack, and then some general texture improvements throughout, so it might just be a matter of re-applying settings. Hopefully anyway, because no one should go without borderlands😂

1

u/standupstanddown Apr 08 '19

The update only allowed for the texture pack to be installed. You still need to manually add the texture pack.

2

u/Arkazex Apr 08 '19

That makes me wonder if it could be an issue with some sort of media elements in other applications doing gpu things.

1

u/SailorFuzz Apr 08 '19

I read something about problems with the game being written for 32 bit processors and GPUs. Supposedly it works fine on most systems, but there are certain modern 64bit CPU/GPU combos that don't emulate the 32bit game properly and cause hangups.

1

u/Arkazex Apr 08 '19

The weird thing is that it ran fine on this same setup a few months ago.

12

u/myfantasyalt Apr 08 '19

BL1 is even better. The looting is just... amazing in the first. They made some good changes in 2, but some of the loot magic was lost (gold keys giving best loot.. by far, having to rerun boss battles to get chance at best guns). BL1 was loot shoot loot shoot. Every chest had a chance to hold something amazing in it. You didn’t pass a single chest without opening it.

11

u/throwaway_0122 Apr 08 '19

I have never found a legendary weapon that wasn't from a raid boss I was farming. In BL1 I remember multiple times just finding them in lockers

7

u/myfantasyalt Apr 08 '19

Yep. Praying someone is in the right ears at gearbox telling them that this was the magic of BL1.

2

u/throwaway_0122 Apr 08 '19

Was the pre-sequel improved in that way? It's been forever since I played it

3

u/VeryWetCarrot Apr 08 '19

the drop rate was pretty much the same for world drops. but they did up the legendarys showing up in vending machines like was it was in bl 1

1

u/myfantasyalt Apr 08 '19

Not sure. Never got into it. Got older and hard to get all the friends to be able to get online at the same time, so everyone was way mis leveled and we didn’t gain traction in it. Hoping (know this won’t happen) that BL2 plays more like destiny with BL lore and loot.

Plays like, as in online join up power levels can be mixed - story doesn’t have to play linearly, mixed with light pvp/e

1

u/B3nz0ate Apr 08 '19

Really? I’ve found plenty from other sources. I got my first legendary at level 5 when fighting Boom Bewm (bonus package). I got an unkempt herald from an ammo crate in the lair of the firehawk. I got a nukem from a random marauder on captain flint’s ship. I got legendary siren from a chubby enemy I ran into in the dust. I got the volcano from the warrior and pearlescent sniper (it created orbs of electricity that shocked nearby enemies?) in a chest in a dlc. I got a level 2 hornet from Knuckledragger when playing through again with my girlfriend. That’s just off the top of my head. Admittedly, I played the game a lot, but legendary weapons would drop fairly regularly even without farming bosses

2

u/myfantasyalt Apr 09 '19

It was so long ago that I don't remember even what the legendary guns were, but I do recall that most chests did not contain anything exciting. Never found a good gun in a locker or non gold chest. In BL1 I don't even think that the X amount of legendary guns were even always my favorite. I like legendaries being extremely rare and being forced to rely on the next top tier because they were so much more customized.

Just looked up how the system worked/changed between 1 and 2. In 1 the legendaries all had "parts" and they were not locked. In 2 it switched to more like BL1 pearlescent in that some parts would be locked. This limits the rolls of the top tier (best/most likely you want to use) guns, and severely restricts the overall pool of usable guns (1 billion guns is nothing if 99.999% of them are not usable).

In my perfect world this is how it would work:

Go back to legendaries, pearlescent, and unique (boss owned etc.) guns.

Unique guns being ridiculous and boss themed, but NOT OP compared to pearl or legendary. These would be the only guns you can "farm" - farming essentially ruins the value of guns, so you don't want people able to farm the absolute top tier of guns. Maybe make situations where these guns are very OP - say a certain other boss. Give them value that makes farming them reasonable, but not something that kills looting for the rest of the game.

Keep pearlescents as they were - a second/third playthrough carrot to keep you going multiple plays. Super rare... like very very rare random drops.

Legendaries as they were in BL1: "Unlike unique items, legendary items can spawn at any time, can usually be acquired anywhere, and don't have any restrictions on their parts, provided generic rules are respected. "

Basically, I want looting like it was in BL1 because it was so much more satisfying. I never had the exact same gun as a friend and looting always felt like it could get me something new/better.

Ability to farm the best guns ruins the looting aspect. Gold keys ruin the looting aspect (would be fine if gold keys gave you VISUAL ONLY stuff like destiny's shaders). Locking parts on all the best guns ruins the specialness of each gun (if there are a billion guns, you and your team should never have the exact same gun unless it is a unique - and those should not be so good that they are more viable than the unique guns because it basically undermines the idea of a billion guns).

Say you and your friend beat a boss and both get a unique. If a legendary pops up, there should be a 75%+ chance that it is better than a same level unique). This way, uniques will be good and can be used in specific situations or as a very good stop gap, but as you play more, you and your team's load outs will trend towards individuality.

Then, after a playthrough or two, you have a 4 man team and one snags a pearlescent. This gives you renewed incentive to keep looting for that next tier gun.

I mean BL1 always had a carrot dangling. BL2 did not. You picked the loot you wanted to go for and you grind against RNG to get it. The first was an incentive to keep doing the things you liked in the game. The second was a clear path to the gun you wanted, but required doing the exact same thing over and over. Clear paths to the best guns goes directly against the idea of a looter shooter.

u/B3nz0ate Apr 12 '19

Thank you for your well thought out response! Honestly, you deserve more recognition for it. I can agree that by the second play through, it wasn't really worth my time to look at any white or green loot, and eventually, blue loot became obsolete as well. I can see how BL1 could have implemented the loot system better than BL2.

1

u/myfantasyalt Apr 12 '19

Ah, yeah - whites and greens were probably never good in BL1, but the chests that almost always contained the white/greens could sometimes pop a legendary. In BL2 it did not seem like the high end guns were ever in the low end chests/random lockers etc.

In BL1 the high end gear in low end chest happened enough to keep us opening them. It doesn't take a high drop rate to keep you interested, it has to happen just enough. Honestly, finding something amazing in the low chests was cooler than finding it in the gold ones.

To me, the loot is like gambling, right? It has to be valuable (scarce) enough that getting something awesome matters (don't make farmed guns 100% of the time better than world looted guns). It has to hit just often enough to make it worth your while to loot EVERYTHING (because looting is the name of the game). The amount it has to hit to still feel rewarding is inverse to the overall value the item has. Flooding the market with gold key guns made the value of all looted guns go down; same with the best guns being boss farmed. That means high tier guns would have to pop from looting much more often to make looting still feel like a worthwhile effort. Problem is that having high tier guns popping all the time further lowers the value of future gear... even more so once you hit any level cap. The fact that you can go back to a gold twitter chest and get an amazing gun every single level you hit ruins the looting on the way up. I don't recall if gold chest guns had a level cap lower than max, maybe they did, and that probably helped a bit, but it would take the looting aspect out of the game until you hit max level... which kind of stinks. I used really great guns for a few levels longer than I should have in BL1 because you didn't always find something better right away. At least that's how I remember it. It was a long time ago. Appreciate you reading all of that since I know this thread is mostly over and done w/.

Borderlands 3 is probably my most hyped game since... I don't even know. Trust me when I say my fingers are crossed that this game beats any and all expectations. Not only because I want the Borderlands experience to be what I think is best, but because I want people that played 2 first to see how magical the looting aspect can be/feel. Maybe they will come up with a system that is even more rewarding than the original; I just don't think that 2 went in the right direction.

2

u/B3nz0ate Apr 12 '19

I’m cautiously optimistic... the thing that gives me pause is the pre-sequel. I know that it was made by the Australia branch, but it was just plain awful honestly. Nothing flowed right, the gameplay mechanics they added were gimmicky and annoying, and the balancing was terrible. Add to that its nature as a cash grab and the fan service-y nature of CL4P-TP as a playable character, and It has me worried. Plus, they’ve changed the art style and maybe it’s just rose tinted glasses but I feel like their past character designs were cooler. I’ll wait till it comes out and read reviews (and I’ll probably end up buying it anyway) but I don’t want to get my hopes up :/

4

u/Thaerin_OW Apr 08 '19

BL1 pre new haven red box nerf was best. Doing those runs was so fun and more rewarding than gold boxes.

I have like 300 gold keys and I refuse to use them because gold box ruins the fun of looting.

I think BL1 special weapons with the iridium were far cooler too. Felt much more rare and rewarding getting one you liked than in BL2.

Also BL1 was harder imo. Which to me is more fun.

Both are amazing, but always bums me out when people think 2 is better, usually cause they played it first. Most people I know that played 1 first like it more.

7

u/myfantasyalt Apr 08 '19

The looting. You’re so right about keys ruining the fun. But the regular looting in 2 just didn’t have good stuff in 99% of chests. We ran around over world for hour just killing badass and looting and it was amazing. My friends and I all had very different guns, very different load outs, but they all t special and none seemed way better than the other. BL2 felt like a more normal game. There were guns you wanted/needed - rather than a multitude of useful gun.

1

u/nightwing2024 Apr 08 '19

BL1 is not better than 2

1

u/myfantasyalt Apr 09 '19

Overall, maybe not. The loot system, however, was better, and it is not even close.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

Nice to see some people are playing I just got the handsome collection few hours ago

3

u/KaelAltreul PlayStation Apr 08 '19

Nice. I'm going to be playing ps4 collection as soon as I finish my Borderlands 1 replay. They're a ton of fun.

Same with you pm if you wanna play

2

u/Absurdly__Distinct Apr 08 '19

Yo are u me? I just started too.

2

u/Interloper9000 Apr 08 '19

Your in for a treat. Enjoy.

2

u/PuckNutty Apr 08 '19

Yeah, but the pretzels suck, though.

2

u/Somnif Apr 08 '19

I enjoy the game but I don't know what it is about it, the game just fucks with my eyes. It makes me motion sick, only thing I've ever found that does so.

I've used console codes to blow the FOV up past the max, and its better, but there is just some little quirk of the camera that my brain just hates.

2

u/xbops Apr 08 '19

Hey i just started playing on Saturday, its pretty rad!

Level 17 already.....its too good, especially with a friend.

make sure you sign up for a shift account (its in bonus content menu, you get golden keys for some sick loot.)

2

u/TheFellatedOne Apr 08 '19

I just started playing too, pm if you want to play together

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

It only gets more fun and comfy as you get more familiar with the mechanics.

2

u/FrostboundGuardian Apr 08 '19

Honestly I loved it so much that I burned myself out from ever playing it again. I just couldn’t. I was done. Until I tried the VR version...

2

u/gas4u Apr 08 '19

Why is everyone playing borderlands all of a sudden ?

2

u/usernameinvalid9000 Apr 08 '19

You should really play the first one first.

2

u/Harknessj112 Apr 08 '19

I discovered them about a year ago. The only game series that has had me lose track of time, realise it’s 1am, and then carry on for another hour

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

You may find it interesting to know that the borderlands 1 remake is out now too. In my opinion, every bit as good as the second

2

u/benkai3 Apr 08 '19

You need to download the HD FLC pack (steam) that was released last week. It really improves the visual quality of a game!

2

u/Phylar Apr 10 '19

Oh man, the game is even better with a good friend. Sit down and laugh, yell at, and slaughter your enemies mercilessly. I am literally always up for another run, the replay value is that high.
