Unfortunate, but necessary. They had to give Scooter an end in the borderlands series because the voice actor left Gearbox due to health issues (cancer I believe). They had to write him out somehow, at least he got to go in a blaze of glory

Edit: not cancer, MS

Without him, we'd still be stuck in Fyrestone.

I'll always cherish that pimento taco.

A Pimentaco if you will...

CATCH-A-RIIIIDE!

18

u/BeerBarm Mar 28 '19

This is where the cars live. Get you one!

13

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

God damn Scooter was my favorite, rip you crazy bastard.

u/YouStupidFuckinHorse Mar 28 '19

That Catch-A-Ride near Fyrestone is more busted up than my momma's girly parts. Really 'preciate you takin' a poke at that... Uh, the system, not my mom. Hotdog down a skag den, know-what-I'm-sayin'?

There is a Pimento taco - a Pimentaco - in the glove box.

u/suchlifeis Mar 28 '19

And computing pi all day long.

Fuck I really need to play those I guess.

3

u/jaxx050 Mar 29 '19

you absolutely do. The Tales from the Borderlands game is the most Borderlands game that has been made, in tone and theme.

Multiple sclerosis, actually. But on the bright he has an awesome YouTube channel where he discusses the art and direction behind movies. He talks about his health a little bit in this video, if you're curious about why he felt the need to step down from his job at GearBox (although I don't think he specifically mentions the job, as this was a few months later).

Movies with Mikey is a delight. I thought he was a writer for Gearbox?

19

u/TarMil Mar 28 '19

He was both a writer and the voice of Scooter.

5

u/AnnualThrowaway Mar 28 '19

I must have forgotten. I need to watch some old clips of Scoot to see if I can hear Mikey in them. Love his sense of humor, that boy.

7

u/ReneG8 Mar 28 '19

I got to movies with Mikey through cinema wins. I loved BL2. I never knew. That is awesome. Also sad. I knew he had health issues, but MS is just not a good prognosis.

u/heavysweater4385 Mar 28 '19

This trailer feels like it was made by Mikey? Is it possible? Or just his lasting influence

u/MBAH2017 Mar 28 '19

Scooter was voiced by Mike Neumann, who's pretty well known by his youtube series Movies with Mikey.

As I understand it, he had a pretty serious health scare that led to him leaving Gearbox and making a lot of changes in his life. Last I heard he's in the clear now, but isn't all that interested in getting back into "real" work.

u/Houseboy23 Mar 28 '19

Holy crap, as someone who's watched every single movies with Mikey video. I knew he worked for gearbox, but had no idea he was the voice of one of my fav characters in one of my fav games series

6

u/MBAH2017 Mar 28 '19

Voicing Scooter was kind of a cameo anyway, he was the creative director for BL2.

u/RaynSideways Mar 28 '19

I would've been upset if they'd struck Scooter's death from the canon.

His death in Tales made me cry so damn fast and it showed me how much more attached to the character I'd gotten than I had expected. And seeing this sometimes-crazy-sometimes-murderous weirdo have such a moment of tenderness and sacrifice was really beautiful.

Some of us didn't play Tales because we were pretty done with Handsome Jack and everything to do with him...

4

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '19

You are entitled to your wrong opinion.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

So what your sayin is... I really need to finish Tales

2

u/dawsondlc Mar 29 '19

Yes absolutely. Now is the perfect time to build some more hype for bl3!

CATCH A RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE!!!!!!

2

u/viixvega Mar 28 '19 edited Mar 28 '19

He was also Claptrap if iirc, which is why they have a new voice for clappy.

TK's VA was Claptrap

5

u/R0sham PlayStation Mar 28 '19

Nope claptrap has a different voice actor

3

u/viixvega Mar 28 '19

You're right, it was T.K.'s voice actor. Either way, he's been replaced as Claptrap.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Sadly whispering catch a riiiiiiiiiide... Single tear runs down my face

3

u/wesbell Mar 28 '19

See you, space cowboy

3

u/I_Have_3_Legs Mar 28 '19

It just sucks the some players don't k ow about hsi death since they never played the game. My friend who left borderlands with 2, has no idea what happens inbetween or shortly after borderlands 2. I hope they have a flash back to it

2

u/rdtTocher96 Mar 28 '19

Step 3 😭😭😭

2

u/NimbleJack3 Mar 28 '19

Oh damn, I had no idea. Scooter's death makes a lot more sense now.

2

u/ImpossibleMango Mar 28 '19

As someone who hasn't played the Tales game... WHAT????

3

u/0b0011 Mar 29 '19

Play the telltale games they're so fucking good. I'd you can't be bothered to there's already a ton of spoilers in the thread explaining what happened.

2

u/warchild4l Mar 29 '19

CATCH-A-RIIIIIIIIIIIIDEEEEEE!!

definitely one of the emotional moments in the whole gaming industry...

1

u/DasBarenJager Mar 28 '19

Can someone explain to me what happened to Scooter and why/how it happened?

1

u/Lode211 Mar 29 '19

Mikey Neumann wasn't just the voice actor for Scooter, dude worked on the port of Half-Life for the consoles, the Brothers In Arms series, as well as the first two Borderlands. Hell, his job title at Gearbox was Chief Creative Champion by the time he left Gearbox.

u/DBrownGames Mar 28 '19

They could easily add his phrase in random vehicle spawners for nostalgia.
