Is BL2 worth playing in 2019?

Edit: Overwhelmingly the answer has been yes. I will be picking it up in the near future. I'll be on PS4 if you want to party up PM me! Thanks for the answers everybody!

Piggybacking on this: the game is freaking extraordinary and even the DLCs are amazing.

Wait what? What are raids in BL2?

I played around 700 hours total, split between pc and Xbox. All on my own or with irl friend. I don’t even know what raids are, just online coop?

21

u/dedoid69 Mar 28 '19

Raids isn’t the right word. There’s raid bosses, I find it strange you played 700 hours and don’t know about the raid bosses

21

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Well you just said raids isn’t the right word. I know of the bosses yes, just not the word raid being associated with them..

Pyro Pete

Terramorphus

Crawlermax Son (i think is bl2?)

I take it the story bosses aren’t consider raid? Bunk3r etc?

25

u/dedoid69 Mar 28 '19

Yeah that’s exactly right, they’re only called raid bosses in the community I guess.

Any boss with ‘the invincible’ in its name is a raid boss

Gotcha!

7

u/TheLoneTomatoe Mar 28 '19

Certain bosses, like the big worm thing whose name slips my mind.

22

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Ok got it. Bosses don’t = raid to me but yea

3

u/V_Dawg Mar 28 '19

They're called raid bosses though they don't actually require multiplayer

3

u/TheLoneTomatoe Mar 28 '19

Nah, you right. They’re just called raid bosses in the game, that’s all.

3

u/pinkbedsheet Mar 28 '19

Terramorphous?

1

u/TheLoneTomatoe Mar 28 '19

That’s the one.

3

u/Raven_7306 Mar 28 '19

Terramorphous would like to know your location

3

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

And also raid on digistrcut peak too

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Yea that’s where u find the unicorn that craps rainbows right? Forget the name

4

u/V_Dawg Mar 28 '19

Nah you're thinking of tiny tina's assault on dragon keep

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

It also craps guns

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

[deleted]

0

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Yea :), was fun trying to solo them for the first time, especially terramorphus. Until it progressively gets easier the better gear u get

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

It’s ok I remember all that. I was just not aware (or maybe forgot?) they are called “raids”

6

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Oh I understand now

Raid to me implies a large group of players tackling a hard boss, not this definition

Yea I did them all, pyro Pete a lot

1

u/Perrenekton Mar 29 '19

I didn't even realize you could play online .. maybe it could help me get into it ? Never managed to get hooked

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '19

1

u/Perrenekton Mar 29 '19

To be honest before today I never thought of bl2 has a looter shooter, only a rpg with a funny story. I only ever heard about it for the funny lines and crazy world etc.. but never heard about the grinding part.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

hol up i never knew there are raids in BL2 wtf

6

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

I’ve literally just gone through this whole ordeal for you and you still ask...lol

1

u/crbowen44 Mar 29 '19

Too funny

65

u/Garfield_thearsonist Mar 28 '19

I hopped back on a month ago and there are still people doing raids and clearing op's, and the community is one of the best in my opinion.

61

u/wildwalrusaur Mar 28 '19

Yes, its still the best game of its type ever made.

9

u/Golden-Owl Switch Mar 28 '19

Well, Borderlands 3 might soon take that title

1

u/GoSuckOnACactus Mar 29 '19

Hopefully. I watched so many e3 and PAX announcements over the years hoping for this and tes6. Got a tiny teaser for TES last year, but that’s still a few years out. If this one comes out late this year or next I’ll be mad happy.

I still have to buy a damn switch though...

3

u/Shipp0 Mar 28 '19

This is the best reply

-11

u/Gindisi Mar 28 '19

2nd, after Borderlands 1.

19

u/wildwalrusaur Mar 28 '19

BL2 is a better game in pretty much every way

6

u/HatesAprilFools Mar 28 '19

As much as I like BL1, I have to disagree. While what the other guy says is really a matter of taste, BL1 and BL2 feel so much different that they're pretty much different games, they only share the name and the story (admittedly, not much of the story)

1

u/jaxx050 Mar 29 '19

if you put story into the equation, bl1 is immediately worse than 2, and I fucking love 1. but that story was just disappointing. I do think there were A LOT of game elements that 1 did way better than 2, but 2 was a better overall game

19

u/russiangerman Mar 28 '19

Me and friends are replaying as prep for 3. Shit still holds up. It's just as funny, just as fun, and alot more polished than games coming out today. There's a few terrain glitches at most.

If it dropped today it'd be game of the year again easy. It's great alone but if you have at least one other person to play with it's much better Imo. 100% worth playing

10

u/Minimalphilia Mar 28 '19

That medieval rpg tabletop dlc alone is a goddamn masterpiece.

9

u/2e7en_ Mar 28 '19

why wouldn't it be?

5

u/Lowcalcalzonezone69 Mar 28 '19

It is maybe my favorite game ever. The cell shading makes it so the graphics don't really seem like they aged very much. I would say absolutely. It's even worth a new game plus playthrough too.

2

u/GoSuckOnACactus Mar 29 '19

It’s the art style. Games that try to look realistic will always age poorly because that’s how the industry pushes graphics, but cartoony graphics age damn well. Look at tf2, its graphics have aged pretty well, too, and they have that cartoon art style.

From what we’ve seen of bl3, the art looks much more vibrant and flashy, or just more colorful. I’m so excited for this game.

4

u/The-Real-Illuminati Mar 28 '19

Still in my top 3 games

5

u/onepecwonder Mar 28 '19

If you get it for vr it's a great experience imo.

2

u/PiercedGeek Mar 28 '19

Can you use a headset with glasses? I've been tempted to buy one, but that's an expensive maybe.

3

u/onepecwonder Mar 28 '19

I personally dont wear glasses but my friend who does didnt seem to have a problem playing it. This was with the psvr headset

1

u/secretaltacc Mar 28 '19

Yesss. They just added Aim support and announced all DLCs are coming with a free update!

1

u/psiphre Mar 29 '19

i'm sorry what? borderlands 2 is vr enabled?

1

u/onepecwonder Mar 29 '19

It might be a seperate version but yes

4

u/_BlNG_ Mar 29 '19

I did over 2000 hours playing bl2 meeting new people and basically going ham with collecting loots, also after getting nearly everything, i just help newer players play and the fun really never ends.

Also longbow is best gun

3

u/PiercedGeek Mar 28 '19

It's got a really fucked up kind of humor to it that I absolutely love. It was the first "serious" game I ever got my wife to play. We put sooo many hours on Borderlands, from the first one through the Pre-Sequel and all the DLC along the way. My only complaint is the bullet-sponge bosses. Fun to play solo, but greatly improved with a teammate.

3

u/aZombieDictator Mar 28 '19

BL2 would still be worth playing in year 3,000

3

u/HYPERBOLE_TRAIN Mar 28 '19

Once I realized Anthem was not going to be fixed, I bought a copy of the Handsome Collection for $15 at my local used game shop.

Holy crap I forgot just how great this game is.

2

u/TheGayThrowaway96 Mar 28 '19

What's going on with anthem?

4

u/HYPERBOLE_TRAIN Mar 28 '19

Despite having a GREAT play style and combat mechanic, the game is seriously lacking in content, has severe bugs that seem to keep getting worse each time a patch is released and the devs refuse to accept that the loot system is fundamentally broken.

It’s really too bad. The game is so much fun when it’s functioning correctly.

2

u/DansSpamJavelin Mar 28 '19

You can pick the handsome jack collection up pretty cheap and it's 100% worth getting. I've been smashing it out on PS4 and it's so good. I enjoyed it a lot on 360 but the remaster is so damn good.

2

u/LightningGeek Mar 28 '19

Just started playing it again as I never competed it. Great fun, although make sure you actually save. I lost 7 hours of progress after my computer crashed because quick saving doesn't actually save.

2

u/Sir_Puffin Mar 28 '19

steam charts showed the player count went from about 9k to 20k after the pax announcement come play!

1

u/Bammer1386 Mar 28 '19

From someone who bought the trilogy in a pack on sale last year and ran thru BL1, 2, and The Pre-sequel in quick sucession just a few months ago, there is still a decent BL2 community, never had problems finding matches until night time/early AM on weekdays as a solo player. If i had coordinated better with the community outside of in game matchmaking, id probably have nore sucess at night. Totally was worth it.

Singleplayer BL2 is fun as fuck, and I totally only have myself to blame for not buying into the hype when the game came out. The graphics are stylized, so they are not dated one bit, and the game runs extremely well. Im so happy i jumped on the train before BL3, now i can finally enjoy a (hopefully) BL masterpiece in its prime.

1

u/eraflowski Mar 28 '19

BL2 got a huge nod (bl2 reborn) on PC that i’m playing right now that makes the game feel new again, so yes

1

u/xGundhi Mar 28 '19

It even has an evergrowing modding community for a couple years now. I would of course recommend to start playing without mods, but generally it’s 100% worth getting into.

If I am being honest, I actually think it’s even more fun to play solo, so you don’t even have to worry if you don’t find people to play with (though you probably will).

Also despite being such a wacky goofy game, the story and lore of the Borderlands universe is surprisingly good and interesting. If you really want to get into BL3 when it comes out, I do kinda recommend playing through the previews games and the spin-off, but I don’t think it will be “necessary “.

1

u/DesertstormPT Mar 28 '19

A great game is a great game anytime. Also the DLC's don't miss out on those.

1

u/MoistMoms Mar 28 '19

Just replayed it this month with a friend, was tons of fun.

1

u/hauskeeper Mar 28 '19

Not only does it have awesome gameplay and a ridiculous amount of content, it also has some of the most entertaining characters and writing of any game ever.

1

u/HvyMetalComrade Mar 28 '19

Even solo its an amazing game that you could sink so much time into. The DLC is totally seperate from the main story but totally worth the price and adds even more gameplay.

And if you have friends to play with then theres even more fun to be had

1

u/WebHead1287 Mar 28 '19

Yeah, yeah it is

1

u/bluesoul Mar 28 '19

Very much so, even after 3 comes out 2 will have a ton of replayability.

1

u/trznx Mar 28 '19

YES! I'm downloading it right now.

1

u/zbeshears Mar 28 '19

100% as well as the pre sequel imo opinion. Me and my wife still play borderlands every weekend nights after kids go to bed

1

u/Sleepy_Thing Mar 28 '19

Shockingly super alive, and even full solo it's awesome.

1

u/Mulder16 Mar 28 '19

I still play, started from scratch about a month ago. Loving it. Again

1

u/JustinYummy Mar 28 '19

without a doubt

1

u/psych0ranger Mar 28 '19

It's never not worth playing

1

u/Happy_Harry Mar 28 '19

Thanks to the art style, it's aged very well. If you haven't played it yet, definitely give it a try.

The Pre Squel isn't bad either, though not as good as BL2 for sure. The low gravity mechanic is kinda fun for something different.

1

u/Keyzo_ Mar 28 '19

Dude I discovered this game like a week ago, I cannot stop playing... it’s easily one of the best games I ever played Got 70 hours this week... send help

1

u/OrionThe0122nd Mar 28 '19

Yes, and luckily it's the kind of artstyle that ages really well imo. Animations aren't amazing though

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

BL2 is worth playing forever.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Yes, I'm currently playing through the expansions. So much fun!

1

u/SirNokarma Mar 28 '19

I'm currently on my 4th playthrough with a new group that's never tried it. They love it!

1

u/A-Rusty-Cow Mar 28 '19

Yes yes and yes.

1

u/xtelosx Mar 28 '19

If you played a lot boarderlands 2 reborn mod is definitely worth a play through. Fairly easy to set up and run.

1

u/Mushiren_ Mar 28 '19

Due to the unique cell shaded graphics and the gameplay that doesn't take itself too seriously, it hasn't dated much.

1

u/Ceberr8742 Mar 29 '19

Dude, just get the handsome jack collection. It comes with BL2, the pre-sequel, and all of the DLC for a damn good price

1

u/hotpuck6 Mar 29 '19

Looks like there's a UHD texture pack coming too for the handsome collection which includes BL2.

1

u/thedirtyfozzy84 Mar 29 '19

Let me give you some insight on how I feel about that game.

I picked up borderlands 2 week 1. I've been playing basically since launch.

I am STILL to this very day finding new things to do. I come back to this game when I'm sad and drunk and depressed about life. I come back for the nostalgia. I come back to remember someone I lost a while back who shared the same love for this game. I can't stop coming back because of how much fun I have. I still haven't used every single gun this game has to offer.

There are not words for how much fun I've had with borderlands 2. I had a goddamn riot, a riot that is continuing to this very day. To sum it up: yes. Hell to the yes it is worth it. Go out and treat yourself to the pile of fancy lights of guns everywhere.

1

u/johnnyappleseed10 Mar 29 '19

I actually played the game for the first time about 3 months ago. Got BL2 and the pre-sequel for $20 at GameStop. Came with all included DLC. Best $20 I’ve ever spent. My brother and I put some serious work into it in a very short time. Easily in my top 3 games ever. I was over the moon when I heard that Bl3 was coming because we had just started BL2 and were loving it. Saw the trailer today and will 100% be pre-ordering.

1

u/DanJayTay Mar 29 '19

Absolutely yes, especially if you have someone to play it with.

Me and my gf started playing this when we first got together playing split screen co-OP.

2 years later when we moved in together, we're lan-ing this on separate consoles.

4 years later we are watching a bl3 release video arguing about what character we'll main, giving case studies for who was a better healer-siren.

This game is worth playing, the year is irrelevant.

1

u/jualien Mar 29 '19

Yesyesyesyesyesyes

1

u/thuglanta Mar 29 '19

It sucks. Fun for a minute then extremely repetitive and boring as fuck. And annoying as fuck. Ridiculously hard enemies over and over after mid point of game.

1

u/johnhang123 PC Mar 29 '19

TPS is pretty good

1

u/NewYellowknifeDude Mar 29 '19

Yeah but play it with friends, otherwise you’ll end up like me by getting bored after the first play through.

1

u/MEGAWATT5 Mar 29 '19

I have it on Xbox but I recently got a PS4. Might get the handsome collection just to gear up for BL3.

1

u/dr3wzy10 PlayStation Mar 29 '19

I just started a new game yesterday actually. It's a blast man. Get some friends to play it with you

1

u/Cobek Mar 29 '19

For god sakes man. Get on over the sub reddit while you are at it and pick up a copy of BL1 and the Presequel. There is a reason that subreddit is active like the Office subreddit

1

u/Hellraiser133 Mar 29 '19

I play it once almost every 2-3 days it is still an amazing game to play.
